How to Get Alerts for New Job Postings

Set up job alerts on LinkedIn, Indeed, and USAJOBS, tune your searches, and fix common delivery problems.

To get alerts for new job postings, search for a role and location on a job board, apply the filters that matter, and turn on an alert for that search. Choose email, app notifications, or both where available. Make separate alerts for meaningfully different roles, locations, or employers so each search can match what you want.

Alerts are tied to saved search criteria: your keywords, location, and filters determine which jobs can trigger a notification. The setup and delivery options differ by platform, so follow the steps below for the boards you use.

1. Choose and refine the search you want to monitor

  1. Write down the job title or keywords, location, and employment arrangement you care about, such as remote work.
  2. Search for those criteria on each relevant job board. Add filters only when they improve relevance without excluding plausible openings.
  3. Review the results. If the search is too narrow, try broader wording or remove restrictive filters before creating the alert.
  4. Create separate alerts for searches that need different criteria, such as different locations or job types.

For example, a search for “nurse” may find more openings than “geriatric nurse.” That broader search can be useful when a specific query yields too few results; you can keep a more specific alert as well. USAJOBS recommends broadening keywords or using fewer filters when no jobs appear.

2. Set up alerts on LinkedIn

  1. Search LinkedIn Jobs using the role, keywords, location, and filters you want.
  2. Turn on the job-alert control on the results page.
  3. Open Manage alerts to choose daily or weekly frequency and email, LinkedIn notifications, or both.
  4. When your search changes, review, edit, or remove the alert under Jobs and preferences.

LinkedIn says a new alert defaults to daily delivery through both email and LinkedIn notifications, and members can have up to 20 job alerts. You can also set an alert for new jobs posted by a specific company through that company’s LinkedIn Page. See LinkedIn’s job-alert instructions and its guide to company-specific alerts.

3. Set up alerts on Indeed

  1. Sign in to Indeed or create an account.
  2. Search by job title, keyword, or company. Enter a city, state, ZIP code, or “remote” as the location.
  3. On the first results page, find the alert field near the bottom, enter an email address, and activate the alert.

Indeed describes job alerts as email alerts tailored to your preferences and companies you follow. An alert may not be available for an international search. You should not expect an email when there are no new jobs matching the search. See Indeed’s instructions for starting, stopping, and managing alerts.

4. Set up alerts on USAJOBS

  1. Sign in to USAJOBS or create a profile.
  2. Search by job or location and apply the filters that matter.
  3. Select Turn on job alert, name the alert, choose its frequency, and add it.
  4. Manage alerts from your profile. You can pause, edit, archive, delete, or renew them.

USAJOBS offers daily, weekly, monthly, or never email frequency. You can create up to 10 alerts. Each alert remains active for one year unless renewed. The agency suggests daily alerts for specific or competitive roles because some announcements close early or after reaching an application limit; this is its practical guidance, not a measured guarantee about hiring outcomes. Read USAJOBS’ job-alert guide and its advice on searching more efficiently.

A saved-job reminder is different from a new-posting alert: USAJOBS may email you when a saved announcement is scheduled to close in three calendar days. See how to save a USAJOBS announcement.

5. Tune alert frequency and coverage

Choose a frequency that fits how closely you need to monitor a search and the options the platform provides. The documented choices vary:

Platform Delivery documented in the help material Frequency and limits
LinkedIn Email, LinkedIn notification, or both Daily or weekly; up to 20 alerts
Indeed Email The cited help page describes email alerts; availability can vary by search, including some international searches
USAJOBS Email Daily, weekly, monthly, or never; up to 10 alerts; active for one year unless renewed

Keep distinct searches separate when their criteria differ. A broad alert for a job family and a narrow alert for a priority title can complement each other. If a particular employer matters, LinkedIn documents company-specific alerts; availability on other platforms is not established here.

6. Troubleshoot missing or irrelevant alerts

Symptom Likely cause What to do
No alert emails arrive The alert may be paused, archived, inactive, or tied to a different email address. Open the platform’s alert management page, confirm the alert is active, and verify the account email. USAJOBS supports pausing and archiving alerts, so check their status there.
The alert is active, but nothing arrived There may not be new jobs matching the search. Indeed explicitly identifies this as a reason no email is sent. Check the results page and wait for matching openings. Do not treat silence alone as proof that delivery is broken.
Too few useful results arrive Keywords or filters may be too restrictive. Broaden the terms, remove filters that are not essential, or create a second broader alert. USAJOBS specifically recommends broader keywords or fewer filters.
Results are irrelevant The terms may be too broad, or the search may combine different roles or locations. Add a meaningful filter or split the search into separate alerts with clearer criteria.
LinkedIn sends more notifications than wanted The alert may default to both email and LinkedIn notifications. Open Manage alerts and choose the delivery channels and frequency you prefer.
Indeed does not offer an alert for a search Alert availability may be limited for an international search. Check Indeed’s help information for the region and search you are using; the cited help page notes this limitation.
A USAJOBS alert stopped after a while Alerts expire after one year unless renewed. Review the alert in your profile and renew it if the search is still relevant.

Also check your spam or junk folder and the platform’s notification settings. If you use multiple accounts or email addresses, confirm you are managing the alert on the account where you created it.

7. Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo takes website screenshots; it does not create job-board alerts. The boards above remain the place to set up alerts. If you also need a clean image of a public job listing for reference, you can capture its page with one API request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);

Replace the example URL with the public page you want to capture. ScreenshotNeo accepts a URL and returns a screenshot or PDF. Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot, and each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See ScreenshotNeo and the docs. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

Performance, reliability, and cost

Job alerts are based on each platform’s saved search and delivery settings. The cited help material documents frequency options, alert limits, and (for USAJOBS) expiration, but does not establish a universal delivery-time guarantee or prove that one schedule improves hiring outcomes. If timing matters, choose the most frequent option the platform offers and check the board directly for urgent searches.

There is no need to pay for a separate alert tool to follow the setup described here: the instructions use each board’s built-in feature. Keep in mind platform-specific limits, such as LinkedIn’s 20 alerts and USAJOBS’ 10 alerts, when planning how many separate searches to track. ScreenshotNeo is a separate, optional screenshot API with its own free and paid plans; it captures pages and does not replace job alerts.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get alerts for several job titles?

Yes. Create separate searches for titles that need different keywords, locations, or filters, subject to each platform’s alert limit.

Can I get an alert when one company posts a job?

LinkedIn documents alerts for jobs posted by a specific company through its LinkedIn Page. The sources here do not establish that this feature is available on every job board.

Does a saved job automatically alert me about new postings?

Not necessarily. A saved job and a new-posting alert serve different purposes. On USAJOBS, for example, a saved-announcement reminder can notify you when that announcement is scheduled to close; a job alert tracks new matches to a search.

Do alerts guarantee I will hear about every matching job immediately?

The cited help pages describe alert setup and frequency choices, not a universal guarantee that every matching posting arrives immediately. Check the board directly when a search is time-sensitive.
