How to Allow Pop-Ups in Mozilla Firefox
Allow pop-ups for one trusted site in Firefox while keeping the blocker on, or turn off blocking for every site.
To allow pop-ups for one website in Firefox, open Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Permissions, and select Exceptions beside the pop-up blocker. Add the site address, choose Allow, and save. This keeps pop-up blocking enabled for other sites.
Firefox blocks pop-ups by default. Mozilla’s setting label may appear as Block pop-ups and third-party redirects or Block pop-up windows, depending on the version. Use the equivalent control in your installation. Mozilla Support: Pop-up blocker settings, exceptions and troubleshooting.
Allow pop-ups for one website
- Open the Firefox menu and choose Settings.
- Select Privacy & Security.
- Scroll to the Permissions section.
- Find the pop-up blocking setting. Keep its checkbox enabled, then click Exceptions beside it.
- Enter or paste the website address that needs to open a pop-up, then choose Allow.
- Save the change. If Firefox shows a confirmation dialog, confirm it.
Return to the site and try the feature again. The exception applies to the site you entered; it does not disable the general blocker. Mozilla notes that allowing a site also affects its linked third-party redirect blocking setting.
Turn off pop-up blocking for every site
If you intentionally want to allow pop-ups broadly, go to Menu → Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions and clear the checkbox for the pop-up blocker. Depending on your Firefox version, the label may refer to pop-up windows or pop-ups and third-party redirects.
This is a global setting: sites across your browsing can open pop-ups. Mozilla recommends caution because pop-ups can be unwanted, and blocking can interfere with some site features, including banking sites. An exception for the one site that needs a pop-up is usually the narrower setting.
Remove a site exception
- Open Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions.
- Choose Exceptions beside the pop-up blocker.
- Select the site and choose Remove Website. Use the control to remove all entries only if you intend to clear every exception.
- Save the changes.
When an expected pop-up still does not appear
- Check the exact address. Make sure the exception matches the site that opens the window. If the flow moves to another site, that destination may need its own exception.
- Check the blocker setting. Confirm that you saved the exception and that the site appears in the exceptions list.
- Try the site action again. Some windows are opened after a click or key press because the site needs that interaction. A blocked unsolicited pop-up and a user-triggered window may behave differently.
- Consider whether it is a pop-up. Some advertisements only look like pop-up windows, and Firefox’s built-in blocker may not stop them.
- Look for another cause. Allowing a site only changes the pop-up permission; it does not guarantee that a separate site feature or unrelated problem will be fixed.
Quick comparison: exception or global setting?
| Choice | What changes | When it fits |
|---|---|---|
| Allow one site | That site can open pop-ups while the general blocker stays on. | A specific trusted site needs a pop-up feature. |
| Disable blocking | Pop-up blocking is turned off across sites. | You deliberately want a global change and understand its wider effect. |

If your goal is to capture a webpage rather than interact with its pop-up, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API that returns an image or PDF from one request. Its capture process accepts cookie and consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter pop-ups, and chat widgets before taking the shot. Each step can be turned off.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; response headers say the page verdict and whether the request was billed. ScreenshotNeo also has an MCP server with screenshot, page information, and PDF tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ
Is pop-up blocking enabled by default in Firefox?
Yes. Mozilla says Firefox’s pop-up blocking is on by default.
Will allowing a site disable the blocker everywhere?
No. A site exception allows that site while leaving the general blocker enabled.
Why does a window open after I click even though pop-ups are blocked?
Some sites open windows in response to a click or key press because the feature depends on that interaction. Firefox may allow some of these windows.
Does allowing pop-ups stop every advertisement that looks like a pop-up?
No. Mozilla notes that some ads only resemble pop-up windows, so the built-in blocker may not stop them.
