How to Archive an Indian Court Case Status Webpage as PDF

Save a browser-rendered PDF of an Indian court case status page, check that the key details are included, and understand what the PDF does and does not prove.

To archive an Indian court case status page as a PDF, open the official eCourts service for the court handling the matter, find the case, wait for its status and history to load, then use your browser’s Print command and save the preview as a PDF. Reopen the file and confirm it includes the case identifier, status, and visible update details. The PDF records what your browser rendered at that time; it is not a certified court record or a replacement for an official order.

1. Open the official case-status service

Start from the official eCourts site serving the relevant court. The e-Committee of the Supreme Court of India describes the eCourts portal as a gateway to case status, daily orders, and final judgments. District courts and High Courts have separate services and search interfaces, so first identify which court service handles the case. eCourts portal · District eCourts services · High Court services.

District-court cases

If you have the CNR, enter the 16-character alphanumeric number without spaces or hyphens. The district service says this search shows the current status and case history. If you do not have the CNR, use the Case Status menu and the search criteria provided there, such as case number, filing number, party name, advocate name, FIR number, Act, or case type. Search fields and availability can vary by portal. Official eCourts search help.

High Court cases

Select the High Court and bench, then choose one of the search methods shown by that service. High Court case-status search includes criteria such as party name, case number, filing number, advocate name, FIR number, Act, or case type. Orders and judgments are a separate service; when you need an official order or judgment, use the court’s document search and PDF link rather than treating a printed status page as the order. High Court services instructions.

2. Let the case result finish loading

Complete the portal’s search, including any CAPTCHA or other requested fields. Wait until the case details and status you need are visible. Some results are interactive or load in sections, so expand or open the relevant status or history sections before printing.

Follow the portal’s own navigation directions. The district eCourts interface warns: “Do not use browser toolbar reload or back button”. Avoid reloading or navigating with browser controls during its flow; use the controls provided on the portal itself. District eCourts interface.

3. Save the rendered page as a PDF in Chrome

  1. Keep the case result open and visible in Chrome on a desktop computer.
  2. Open Print: press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or ⌘+P on Mac. You can also use Chrome’s File > Print command.
  3. In the print preview, select a PDF destination. The exact destination label can vary by operating system; select the option that saves a PDF rather than sending the page to a physical printer.
  4. Inspect every preview page. Confirm that the case identifier, court, status, and update details are readable, and check that tables, dates, and long text are not clipped or split in a confusing way.
  5. Adjust available print settings if the preview needs it, then save the file.
  6. Open the saved PDF and verify it again. Give it a descriptive filename, for example district-court-cnr-accessed-2026-10-04.pdf. Record the access date and the page address alongside the file when useful.

Chrome documents desktop printing through the print dialog and keyboard shortcuts. Print-preview settings differ across platforms, so rely on the preview to confirm the result. Chrome: Print from Chrome.

4. Choose PDF or a saved webpage

Option Useful when What to check
Print to PDF You need a fixed-layout document that is convenient to open, share, or print. Review the print preview for omitted fields, page breaks, and clipped columns.
Save page as You want a browser-saved webpage copy instead of a printable PDF. It may save supporting page files as well; reopen the saved copy and check what it retained.

In Chrome, the webpage-save command is separate from printing: choose More > More tools > Save page as. It does not create the same output as a print-to-PDF PDF. Neither method is guaranteed to preserve every interactive or dynamically loaded field on every court portal. Chrome: Download a file and save a webpage.

5. Keep enough context to interpret the archive

A saved PDF shows the content that was visible to your browser when you captured it. It does not prove that the status remains current after saving, and the reviewed official guidance does not describe a user-printed PDF as a certified copy, digitally signed court record, or substitute for an order. For an order or judgment, use the official eCourts document functions when available or follow the court’s formal process.

  • Keep the access date and time with the file.
  • Record the court or bench, case identifier, and source page address.
  • Reopen the PDF and check the relevant status and visible update details.
  • If a point is missing or unclear, return to the official portal and use its document or case-history function as appropriate.

These are practical recordkeeping steps; they do not certify the PDF or guarantee its acceptance for any legal purpose. eCourts presents case-status services separately from orders and judgments. High Court services · eCourts portal.

Common problems and fixes

Problem Likely cause What to do
The CNR search returns no result The CNR may contain a typo, spaces, or hyphens, or the case may belong to another court service. Check the 16-character alphanumeric CNR and enter it without spaces or hyphens. Confirm that you are on the service for the court concerned. If you do not have the CNR, use the portal’s other search criteria.
The result page looks incomplete The case details may still be loading, or information may be behind a section, tab, or expand control. Wait for loading to finish and open the relevant case-status or history sections before printing. Review the preview and reopen the PDF.
The portal flow breaks after using Back or Reload The district eCourts interface instructs users not to use the browser toolbar reload or back button. Use the site’s own navigation controls and restart the search through the official service if needed.
Text or a table is cut off in the PDF The browser’s printed layout may paginate or scale the webpage differently from its on-screen view. Inspect all preview pages, adjust available print settings, and save again. Reopen the new file to verify the affected section.
The PDF does not contain the order or judgment A case-status page and a court order or judgment are different materials. Search the court’s official orders or judgments service and use its document PDF where available.
The PDF is being treated as proof of current status A saved copy reflects a past browser view; it does not update when the online case status changes. Keep the access date and source address with it. Visit the official service again for current status.

Performance, reliability, and cost

For an occasional case, browser print-to-PDF is a direct workflow and uses the browser’s built-in print function. It costs nothing beyond access to your device and connection. Reliability depends on what the portal has loaded and what the browser preview includes: inspect the output instead of assuming every visible or interactive field was captured.

For repeat captures or a developer workflow, an API can render pages without a locally managed browser setup. Rendering still depends on the target page being reachable and presenting the needed content to the capture. Keep a record of the capture time and inspect important results. Do not use an automated screenshot as a substitute for an official court document.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. One GET request can return a screenshot or PDF. Cookie banners and consent overlays, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client take screenshots, inspect page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 shots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options and setup.

These examples capture the official district-service URL. A case lookup may require portal interaction, a selected court, and CAPTCHA input; the one-call examples do not fill in a case search or bypass those steps. Use the official portal for the actual case result, then capture the result page only when it is accessible and appropriate for capture. Check the returned file and response headers before relying on it.

FAQ

Does a browser-saved PDF count as a certified court record?

The reviewed official sources do not describe a browser printout as certified or digitally signed. Use the official court process for certified records and official orders.

Will the PDF show the case’s latest status later?

No. It is a snapshot of what was visible when you saved it. Return to the official service to check for updates.

Can I save an order or judgment from the case-status page?

Use the court’s dedicated orders or judgments search. High Court services provide separate access to those documents, which can be viewed in PDF format.

Can I do this from a phone?

Browser print controls vary by mobile browser and operating system. The steps above are verified for Chrome desktop; on a phone, use the browser’s available print or share options and inspect the resulting file.
