Awesome Screenshot Toolbar Missing in Chrome: How to Restore It

Restore the Awesome Screenshot icon in Chrome by pinning it from the Extensions menu. If it is missing there, check Manage extensions and reinstall it.

If the Awesome Screenshot icon is missing from Chrome’s toolbar, click the Extensions puzzle-piece icon near the top right, find Awesome Screenshot, and click its Pin control. If Awesome Screenshot is not in the menu, open Manage extensions to check whether it is installed; reinstall it if it is absent.

Pin Awesome Screenshot to Chrome’s toolbar

  1. Open Chrome and click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon near the top right of the browser.
  2. Find Awesome Screenshot in the extensions list.
  3. Click its Pin control. Its icon should now appear in the toolbar.
  4. Click the Awesome Screenshot icon to open its menu. Choose the Capture tab and select the capture option you need.

Chrome can keep an extension available in the Extensions menu without showing its icon in the toolbar. Pinning adds the shortcut back; it does not reinstall or otherwise change the extension. Awesome Screenshot’s Chrome installation instructions give the same pinning steps for an icon that does not appear after installation.

If Awesome Screenshot is not in the Extensions menu

  1. Click the puzzle-piece Extensions icon and choose Manage extensions.
  2. Look through the installed extensions for Awesome Screenshot.
  3. If it is listed, return to the Extensions menu and use its Pin control.
  4. If it is not listed, install Awesome Screenshot again using the vendor’s Chrome installation guide or its Chrome Web Store listing. Then pin it from the Extensions menu.

The missing toolbar icon alone does not tell you why an extension is absent from the management page. First check whether it is installed, then follow the vendor’s installation steps if it is not.

Troubleshooting

What you see What to do
Awesome Screenshot is in the Extensions menu, but there is no toolbar icon. Click its Pin control in that menu.
Awesome Screenshot is not in the Extensions menu. Choose Manage extensions and check whether it is installed. Reinstall it from the vendor’s Chrome installation flow if it is absent.
The icon is visible, but clicking it does not show the capture choices you expect. Open the extension and choose its Capture tab, then select a capture option.
You cannot find the Extensions puzzle-piece icon. Check Chrome’s toolbar area near the top right. Chrome’s toolbar customization controls can affect which buttons are shown; its help page explains toolbar controls.

These steps address the supported recovery path: pin an installed extension, inspect the management page, and reinstall if it is missing. The available instructions do not establish a specific cause such as a browser update, profile setting, policy, or account state, so check installation status before diagnosing further.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need screenshots through an API instead of restoring a browser extension, ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot with one GET request. The example below saves a WebP screenshot of Stripe:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides screenshot tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
