Best Buy Price Match Policy: How to Check and Track Price Changes
Learn how Best Buy price matching works, how to check for a price drop after buying, and where to request an adjustment.
Short answer: Best Buy does not describe a general automatic price alert service for ordinary purchases. To check for a change, revisit the product listing and your Best Buy Order Details. If you find a qualifying lower price, request a review: use Best Buy chat or call for an online order, or speak with store staff for an in-store purchase. A competitor match and a post-purchase adjustment follow different rules.
Best Buy’s Price Match Guarantee policy is effective September 2, 2026. The Qualified Competitors page lists an effective date of May 11, 2025, and Best Buy’s pricing help page is dated January 24, 2025. Policies and competitor lists can change, so check the live Price Match Guarantee and Qualified Competitors pages before making a purchase or request.
1. What “track” means at Best Buy
Best Buy says prices can change during the day and vary by store, region, website, app, and sales channel. Its published pricing information does not promise automatic alerts for ordinary purchases. You need to check the current price yourself and, if eligible, ask Best Buy for a price review.
Keep these two situations separate:
- Competitor price match: Best Buy may match a currently available lower price from a qualified competitor when the offer and item meet its conditions.
- Best Buy post-purchase price adjustment: During the return and exchange period, you may request Best Buy’s lower current price on an eligible purchase.
A price match is not automatic. The lower offer must still be in effect when Best Buy reviews it, and Best Buy verifies the item, seller, price, and availability.
2. How to check for a price change after buying
- Find the exact product listing. Check brand, model number, color, condition, and seller. Confirm that it is the same product and not a similar model or bundle.
- Check BestBuy.com or the app. Compare the current price with the price you paid. Best Buy’s own price may differ among stores and channels.
- For an order you received or picked up, open Order Details. Look for See details to check whether a price-match request is available for that order.
- Submit a request through the right channel. For an online order, use Best Buy chat or call 1-888-237-8289. For an in-store purchase, speak with a Customer Specialist or visit Customer Service.
- Have evidence ready. For a competitor offer, provide the current ad or webpage address so Best Buy can verify the price and availability. For an in-store request, show the active ad or webpage to an employee.
Best Buy says: “If we lower our in-store, online or app price during the return and exchange period, we will match our lower price, upon request.” This is a request you make; the policy does not say that Best Buy automatically monitors purchases and sends an alert.
3. Competitor price match: what qualifies?
Best Buy’s general requirements are that the competing offer is for the exact same brand, model number, and color; the product is new and immediately available; and it is sold by the competitor itself, rather than by a marketplace seller. The competitor must be on Best Buy’s Qualified Competitors list.
| Check | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Product identity | Same brand, model number, and color. Similar specifications or a near-match are not enough. |
| Condition | The qualifying item is new. Open-box, refurbished, and pre-owned listings are excluded. |
| Seller | The offer is sold by Best Buy or the qualified competitor itself. Marketplace sellers are excluded, including marketplace listings on a qualified retailer’s site. |
| Availability | The item is in stock and immediately available. Out-of-stock and limited-quantity offers are excluded. |
| Price | The lower price is current when Best Buy reviews the request. Online comparisons use the pre-tax price; shipping or delivery charges are not included. |
| Offer type | The offer is not one of the excluded sale types, such as a coupon, bundle, financing offer, or qualifying short-term event sale. |
Which competitors are on the list?
Best Buy’s published list includes Abt, Amazon, Apple, B&H Photo Video, BJ’s Wholesale Club, BrandsMart USA, Costco, Crutchfield, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Home Depot, Lowe’s, Menards, Micro Center, Nebraska Furniture Mart, P.C. Richard, RC Willey, Sam’s Club, Target, and Walmart. This list is dated May 11, 2025; verify the current list on Best Buy’s live page before relying on it. A retailer appearing on the list does not make offers from its marketplace sellers eligible.
What is excluded?
Best Buy’s policy lists many exclusions. They include third-party marketplace listings; clearance, open-box, refurbished, and pre-owned products; out-of-stock or limited-quantity offers; coupons; bundles and subscriptions; financing offers; loyalty or customer-group prices (with a stated warehouse-club exception); trade-in, liquidation, and credit-card or gift-card offers; contract phones; competitor service prices; and certain holiday, Black Friday, daily, or hourly promotions. Some video-game membership discounts are also excluded. This is not a complete substitute for the policy: terms can change and exclusions depend on the offer.
For warehouse-club prices that require a membership login, Best Buy says the request is available only in store and must be based on a live offer, not a screenshot. Puerto Rico stores have their own posted terms and are excluded from matching online and app prices.
4. How to request a competitor price match
How do I request a price match from BestBuy.com?
For a purchase made on BestBuy.com or in the Best Buy app—including an order for store pickup—contact Best Buy through online chat or by calling 1-888-237-8289. Online price-match requests cannot be completed in a store or by email. For a shipped BestBuy.com order after delivery, the policy says the request must be made by the purchaser named in the order’s “Bill To” section.
If the order has already been received or picked up, open Order Details and select See details to check price-match availability. For a store purchase, ask a Customer Specialist or visit Customer Service.
How do I show “proof” of price?
Have the competitor’s current product page or ad ready, including its URL. Best Buy recommends providing the address so it can verify the price and availability. For an in-store request, show the active webpage or ad to an employee. A screenshot alone may not establish that an offer is still available; warehouse-club login offers specifically require a live offer rather than a screenshot.
Before contacting Best Buy, check the page yourself for the exact model, color, seller, condition, stock status, and whether the price is still active. If a coupon or other promotion is involved, explain that clearly: Best Buy says a customer may use a coupon or price-match the lower price, but cannot do both.
5. Best Buy price drops, pickup, delivery, and pre-orders
| Purchase situation | What Best Buy says | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Ordinary purchase; Best Buy lowers its price | You may request Best Buy’s lower price during the return and exchange period. | Recheck the listing and Order Details, then contact Best Buy or ask in store according to the purchase channel. |
| BestBuy.com order for store pickup | A request may qualify if the price is lower in store or online when you pick the item up. | Check the price at pickup and ask Best Buy to review it. |
| Scheduled delivery; Best Buy price drops before delivery | Best Buy says to call; it will refund the full difference, including tax. | Call 1-888-237-8289 before the scheduled delivery date. |
| Pre-order price drops at shipment | Best Buy says it automatically charges the lower price at shipment. | Check the order and final charge. The policy treats pre-orders separately from ordinary competitor price matches. |
These are distinct cases. Do not assume that a competitor price drop, a Best Buy price change, and a price change after scheduled delivery use the same rule. If your timing or order status does not fit the descriptions above, ask Best Buy to confirm the applicable terms.
6. A simple manual price-check routine
Since Best Buy does not promise an automatic alert for an ordinary purchase, use a repeatable reminder if you want to monitor a price during the return and exchange period:
- Save the Best Buy product page and your order number in a note or bookmark.
- Record the purchase date, price, model number, color, and order status.
- Revisit the Best Buy listing periodically and check Order Details for See details.
- If comparing a competitor, verify the qualified retailer, direct seller, exact item, live stock, and current price on the day you request review.
- Contact Best Buy promptly when you find a qualifying change, and keep the order and offer details available during the conversation.
This is a manual check, not a Best Buy alert feature. A saved page or screenshot can help you remember what you saw, but it does not replace a live offer when Best Buy verifies eligibility.
7. Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean record of a product page or competing offer, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. This can help document what a page showed, but it does not submit a price-match request or establish that Best Buy will accept the offer as proof. Best Buy may need to verify the live page.
For a manual browser-based capture workflow, use a browser automation tool to open the URL, wait for the relevant content, and save a screenshot. If you need repeatable captures in code, ScreenshotNeo offers a one-call API; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?st=product -o shot.webp
Replace the URL with the actual public product listing. Add URL encoding when constructing the request in your own HTTP client. The response is an image or PDF according to the requested output settings.

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: target });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const bytes = new Uint8Array(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', bytes));
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie and consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. It also has an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. A screenshot is useful as a record, but Best Buy’s decision depends on its policy and verification of the current offer.

8. Troubleshooting a price-match request
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Best Buy cannot find the same item | The model number, color, or product configuration differs. | Compare the full model identifier and item details, not just the product name or photo. |
| The lower price is rejected | The offer may be excluded, expired, unavailable, or from a marketplace seller. | Open the live listing and check seller, condition, stock, promotion type, and the current policy exclusions. |
| A screenshot is not accepted | A saved image does not show that the offer is live and available now. | Provide the current URL or live ad. For warehouse-club login offers, Best Buy says it requires a live offer in store. |
| The request is being made through the wrong channel | Online orders and store purchases use different request routes. | For online/app orders use chat or phone; for a store purchase talk to store staff. Online requests cannot be completed in store or by email. |
| The order page has no “See details” link | Price-match availability may not be offered for that order or situation. | Contact Best Buy through the channel for your purchase type and ask whether a review is available. |
| A competitor’s price includes shipping or tax | The comparison may be using a different basis from Best Buy’s policy. | Compare the current pre-tax product price; Best Buy excludes shipping and delivery charges from the online comparison. |
| A coupon is part of the lower price | Best Buy does not allow a price match to a coupon in addition to using that coupon. | Ask about either applying the coupon or matching the lower price; the policy says both cannot be combined. |
| The price changed after a scheduled-delivery order | Scheduled-delivery orders have a specific process. | Call Best Buy before the scheduled delivery date and ask about the price difference. |
9. Performance, reliability, and cost considerations
Timing: Prices can change during the day, and Best Buy checks whether the offer is current. Check close to the time you request review rather than relying on an old saved page.
Reliability: Keep the product URL and order information, but treat saved captures as notes. The retailer’s live offer, item identity, seller, and availability determine whether the policy applies. A screenshot service cannot guarantee a match or price adjustment.
Cost: Best Buy’s documented request paths are chat, phone, or store staff. The research does not establish a fee for requesting a price review. ScreenshotNeo is optional for making a visual page record: it has a free tier of 1,000 shots per month with no card, and paid plans begin at $5 for 3,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Do not buy a capture service solely to make a request unless you have another use for it.
10. Frequently asked questions
Does Best Buy automatically notify me when a price drops?
Best Buy’s published pricing information does not promise automatic price-change alerts for ordinary purchases. Recheck the listing and your Order Details yourself.
Can I request a lower Best Buy price after I have picked up an order?
A store-pickup order may qualify if the price is lower in store or online when you pick it up. For an order already picked up, check Order Details for See details and contact Best Buy if needed.
Can Best Buy match a competitor’s coupon or marketplace price?
Coupons and third-party marketplace listings are among the exclusions in Best Buy’s policy. A qualified retailer’s own direct offer may be considered if the other requirements are met.
Does a price-match request include tax and shipping?
Competitor online comparisons use the pre-tax price, and shipping or delivery charges are not included. Best Buy separately says that for a qualifying Best Buy price drop before scheduled delivery, it will refund the full difference including tax.
Will a screenshot guarantee a price adjustment?
No. Best Buy decides eligibility under its policy and may need to verify a live offer. A capture can preserve what a page displayed, but it is not an approval.
