Canva can generate Google Play listing graphics through its App Screenshot Gen: Play store and app store screenshot generator app. Canva says the app is free with any Canva plan and can arrange Android, iPhone, and iPad screenshots with device frames, backgrounds, and marketing text. Open Canva’s Apps Marketplace, search for App Screenshot Gen, choose a design, wait for the app to load in the editor, and follow its setup steps.

The important limitation is that Canva creates presentation graphics; Google Play still checks the uploaded files and whether they accurately show your app. Use real captures of the current app, export an accepted JPEG or opaque 24-bit PNG, verify dimensions and aspect ratio, and then upload the finished files in Play Console.

How to make Play Store screenshots in Canva

1. Capture the real app interface

Start with current screenshots from the Android app build you intend to publish. Plan each image around one core feature or user benefit. Google says screenshots must demonstrate the actual in-app or in-game experience and focus on core features and content.

2. Open App Screenshot Gen

  1. Sign up for or log in to Canva.
  2. Open the Apps Marketplace.
  3. Search for App Screenshot Gen.
  4. Select a design to use with the app.
  5. Wait for the app to load in the Canva editor.
  6. Follow the setup steps shown by the app.

Canva’s listing identifies the developer as appmockup Generator. It describes device frames, backgrounds, marketing text, and support for Android, iPhone, and iPad screenshots. Canva also lists permissions allowing the app, while open in a design, to read and change design contents and access uploaded media, including uploading new media on your behalf. Those are the permissions disclosed on the listing; they are not an independent safety assessment.

3. Arrange screenshots without changing what the app does

Use frames, backgrounds, and short labels to explain the sequence. Keep the actual interface large enough to read, especially in the first three images. Google allows stylized screenshots that break the UI across images, but recommends prioritizing the UI in the first three. Do not add claims, screens, or features that are not present in the current app.

4. Export files that Play Console accepts

For general listing screenshots, Google requires at least two screenshots across supported device types. Accepted formats are JPEG or 24-bit PNG without alpha. Each image must be between 320 and 3840 pixels, and the longest dimension cannot be more than twice the shortest dimension.

Google allows up to eight screenshots for each supported device type. For apps seeking eligibility for screenshot-led recommendation formats, Google recommends at least four screenshots at 1080 pixels or higher: landscape images should be at least 1920×1080 at 16:9, while portrait images should be at least 1080×1920 at 9:16. These are recommendation thresholds, not the universal minimum for publishing any listing. For games, the recommendation calls for at least three high-resolution screenshots in one of those orientations.

5. Check device-specific rules

A single Canva template may not work for every Play device category.

Device category Requirement or risk
Phones and tablets Follow the general screenshot format, count, dimension, and aspect-ratio rules.
Wear OS Images must accurately show the current app interface without device frames, added text, graphics, or backgrounds. They must be square and at least 384×384.
Android TV At least one TV screenshot and a TV banner are required before publishing.
Android Automotive OS and Android XR Check the current Google Play requirements for each target category.

Do not assume a phone mockup can be reused for Wear OS or another category with stricter asset rules.

What size should Google Play screenshots be?

For the general listing, use JPEG or opaque 24-bit PNG files from 320 to 3840 pixels, with the longest dimension no more than twice the shortest. You need at least two screenshots across supported device types, and you can upload up to eight for each supported device type.

If you want recommendation-format eligibility, prepare at least four app screenshots at 1080 pixels or higher. Use at least 1920×1080 for 16:9 landscape or 1080×1920 for 9:16 portrait. Treat these as separate recommendation guidance, not as the universal publication minimum.

Can you put a phone frame around Play Store screenshots?

For phone or tablet listing graphics, Canva’s app supports device frames. A frame can help viewers understand the context, but it must not hide important UI or make the image misleading. Google’s guidance says screenshots should show the real current experience and focus on core features.

Frames are not valid for every device category. Wear OS screenshots, for example, must show the current interface without device frames, added text, graphics, or backgrounds. Check the target category before applying a reusable Canva template.

Are Canva Play Store screenshots free?

Canva’s App Screenshot Gen listing says it is free with any Canva plan. That statement applies to the listed app; it does not mean every Canva feature or asset is free. You can also design screenshots manually and manage the final files in Play Console’s Asset Library.

A quality-control checklist before upload

  • Use captures from the current app version.
  • Show the real interface and core features.
  • Make the first three images easy to understand without zooming.
  • Export JPEG or opaque 24-bit PNG.
  • Check every file is between 320 and 3840 pixels.
  • Check the longest side is no more than twice the shortest.
  • Prepare at least two screenshots for the general listing.
  • Use four 1080-pixel-or-higher screenshots only when targeting the recommendation guidance.
  • Remove fingers or people interacting with a device unless off-device use is part of the core gameplay or app use.
  • Review special rules for Wear OS, Android TV, Android Automotive OS, Android XR, and every other target category.
  • Open each exported file and inspect it at its final pixel size.

Upload and organize files in Play Console

Play Console’s Asset Library can accept files from your computer or Google Drive. It can crop an uploaded graphic into a separate copy, filter assets by properties such as placement and aspect ratio, tag assets, and reuse them across listings, experiments, and events. Keep the original exports so you can revise a listing without losing the source files.

Common Canva and Play Console problems

Problem Cause Fix
Play Console rejects the image format The export is not JPEG or opaque 24-bit PNG, or it contains an alpha channel. Export JPEG or 24-bit PNG without transparency, then inspect the file properties.
Image dimensions are rejected A side is below 320 pixels, above 3840 pixels, or the aspect ratio exceeds 2:1. Resize the design and export again within Google’s limits.
The listing lacks enough screenshots Fewer than two screenshots were supplied across supported device types. Add at least two valid screenshots, then check the device-target section where they were uploaded.
A Wear OS asset is rejected The image includes a frame, decorative background, added text, or graphics. Export a square image of the current interface only, at least 384×384.
Android TV publishing is blocked A TV screenshot or TV banner is missing. Add both required TV assets in the TV listing section.
The screenshot looks polished but is misleading Marketing text or mockups obscure or invent app behavior. Return to genuine current captures and use presentation elements only to clarify them.
Text is unreadable in the listing The device frame or background leaves too little room for the UI. Reduce decoration, enlarge the capture, and keep core UI in the first three images.
The Canva app cannot modify a design The design or uploaded media is not available to the app, or the app has not completed loading. Wait for the app to load, confirm the correct design is open, and review the permissions Canva displays for the app.

Performance, reliability, and cost considerations

Canva is useful when a person needs to arrange a small set of screenshots and presentation elements. For repeated releases, keep a source design with replaceable app captures and a documented export checklist. Recheck Google’s live requirements before each release because device rules and preview-asset guidance can change.

Do not buy a physical Android phone just to prepare listing graphics. The reviewed workflow is digital: capture the app, compose the files, export them, and manage them in Play Console.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need clean captures of a live web page for documentation, marketing, or an automated asset pipeline, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It accepts one GET request and returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Cookie and consent banners are accepted before capture, then more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed. Each step can be turned off.

Only clean shots are billed. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and the response reports the result through the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for all options. The basic calls are:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo includes full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element capture, dark mode, 12 device presets and custom viewports, retina scale, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks before capture, selector hiding, waits for selectors, delays or network idle, request and resource blocking, custom headers and cookies, user agents and Authorization, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, selectable cache TTLs, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call, a usage API, and an OpenAPI specification. Parameters used by other screenshot APIs also work.

Free accounts include 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

FAQ

Does Canva have a Google Play screenshot generator?

Yes. Canva lists App Screenshot Gen, provided by appmockup Generator, in its Apps Marketplace. Canva says it supports Android, iPhone, and iPad screenshots and is free with any Canva plan.

Can I use Canva-generated graphics for every Play device type?

No. Device categories have different rules. Wear OS, for example, does not allow frames or added decorative material, while Android TV requires a TV screenshot and banner.

How many screenshots are required?

Google’s general listing requirement is at least two screenshots across supported device types. Four high-resolution screenshots are recommendation-oriented guidance for apps, not the universal publishing minimum.

Does a device mockup replace the real app capture?

No. The screenshot must accurately demonstrate the current app experience. A frame or background is presentation around the capture, not a substitute for it.

Where should finished files be stored?

Play Console’s Asset Library can upload, crop, filter, tag, and reuse graphics across listings, experiments, and events.
