How to Capture a Full-Page Screenshot on iOS
Capture a webpage that extends beyond your iPhone screen, then save it as an image in Photos or a PDF in Files.
To capture content beyond one screen on iPhone, take a screenshot, open its preview, tap Full Page, then save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF. Apple documents this for an entire webpage in Safari; the option is not promised for every app or type of content. Apple’s iPhone guide documents the steps and save options.
Take a full-page screenshot on iPhone
- Open the webpage or other content you want to capture. For the documented Safari example, open the webpage in Safari and allow the page to load.
- Take a normal screenshot. On an iPhone with Face ID, quickly press and release the side button and volume-up button together. On an iPhone with a Home button, quickly press and release the side button and Home button together.
- Open the screenshot preview that appears, then tap Full Page. The preview’s appearance can vary by iOS version.
- Drag on the preview to inspect more of the captured content. If you need only part of it, tap Crop and adjust the handles.
- Choose where to save the result: select Save to Photos for an image, or Save PDF to Files and choose a folder for a PDF.
Choose image or PDF
Apple documents both save choices. Pick an image if you want the capture in your photo library, or a PDF if you want a document in Files. Apple’s guide does not compare their quality or file size, so choose based on where you want to keep and use the result.
| Output | Save destination | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Image | Photos | You want a screenshot alongside your photos. |
| Files | You want a document saved in a folder. |
Inspect, crop, and find the capture
In the full-page preview, drag over the preview image to move through the capture. Use Crop and its handles when the full capture includes more than you need. After saving an image, find screenshots in Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots. A PDF is saved to the Files location you selected.
When Full Page is unavailable
Apple’s documented example is a complete webpage in Safari. Its instructions do not guarantee that Full Page appears for every app or content type. If the tab is missing, try the supported Safari webpage workflow. The regular button combination still takes a standard screenshot, which captures what is visible on screen.
Apple also lists Siri, AssistiveTouch, and Back Tap as ways to take screenshots. Its cited instructions do not establish that each of these alternatives exposes the Full Page option in the same way, so use the button combination above when following these steps.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a webpage screenshot from code or an automated workflow, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request returns an image or PDF. This is separate from the iPhone’s built-in Full Page feature: it captures a webpage through an API.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Cause or limit | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| No screenshot preview appears | The preview may have been dismissed or the button press did not register. | Quickly press and release the correct button pair again, then open the preview immediately. |
| No Full Page tab | The current app or content may not expose the documented full-page capture option. | Try a webpage in Safari. For content without the option, the built-in screenshot captures the visible screen. |
| The capture contains too much | A full-page capture includes content beyond the visible viewport. | Inspect it by dragging in the preview, then use Crop and adjust the handles before saving. |
| Can’t find the saved result | Images and PDFs go to different destinations. | Check Photos under Collections > Media Types > Screenshots for images; check the selected folder in Files for PDFs. |
Reliability and practical limits
- Use the Safari webpage flow when you specifically need the documented entire-webpage capture.
- Confirm the preview is in Full Page mode before saving; the regular screenshot alone represents visible screen content.
- Inspect and crop the result before saving if you need a smaller portion.
- Apple’s guide does not specify universal app support, numeric page limits, or a quality and file-size comparison between image and PDF output.
