How to Capture a Full Webpage Screenshot in Chrome Using GoFullPage

Install GoFullPage, capture a page from top to bottom, and choose an image or PDF export. Learn what to do when a page will not capture cleanly.

To capture a full webpage in Chrome with GoFullPage, install GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture, open the page you want, then click the GoFullPage extension icon. It scrolls through the page and assembles the captured sections into a result in a new tab. From there, download an image or PDF. The extension listing also gives Alt+Shift+P as a capture shortcut. GoFullPage’s FAQ explains that this scrolling-and-assembly method can fail on PDFs, custom scrolling pages, or very large captures.

Capture and export a page

  1. Install the extension. Open the GoFullPage listing in the Chrome Web Store and add it to Chrome.
  2. Open the target page. Navigate to the page and wait for its main content to appear. If the page loads content as you scroll, wait for the initial layout to settle.
  3. Start the capture. Click the GoFullPage icon in the toolbar. If you do not see it, open Chrome’s Extensions menu and pin GoFullPage. You can also use Alt+Shift+P, as listed by the extension.
  4. Let it scroll and assemble. GoFullPage captures successive scroll windows and combines them. Avoid scrolling or interacting with the page until the result opens in a new tab.
  5. Review the result. Scroll through the assembled capture and check the top, bottom, and any sections with sticky headers, animations, or lazy-loaded content.
  6. Choose an export. Save PNG or JPG for an image. Choose PDF for a document-style record, then select a continuous page or paginated paper-size layout if offered.

The extension’s store listing describes PNG and JPG image exports, PDF export, and clipboard copying. PDF controls can include a continuous page or pagination to standard paper sizes, with layout choices such as portrait or landscape where available. Options can change, so check the current extension interface and listing when a control is not present.

Choose the right output format

Output Use it when Check before sharing
PNG You need a lossless image for review, documentation, or a visual diff. Long pages can create very large images. Check that the full page was included.
JPG You want a smaller image and can accept lossy compression. Small text and fine interface details may look softer.
PDF, continuous You want the page as one document-style sheet. At extreme page lengths, the resulting page may be awkward to view or print.
PDF, paginated You want a document that fits standard paper sizes for printing or page-by-page review. Inspect page breaks and orientation; content can span multiple sheets.
Clipboard You want to paste the capture directly into another application. Clipboard availability and image size may depend on the browser and destination app.

A full-page capture is not the same as a screenshot of the visible viewport. GoFullPage scrolls the page and stitches the captured views together, so the final image represents content beyond the initial screen. The official listing describes full-page, visible-area, and custom-area capture modes; use the mode that matches the evidence you need.

What happens during a full-page capture

The extension captures a page in successive scroll positions, then assembles those sections into one result. This is useful for long articles, product pages, and documentation. It also means the capture depends on the page behaving consistently while the extension scrolls. A page that changes its layout, content, or scrolling behavior during capture may produce gaps, duplicated sections, or an incomplete result.

Pages that load images only when they approach the viewport may need time to load each section as it comes into view. GoFullPage’s current store listing describes waiting for lazy-loaded content, but dynamic pages can still vary. Review the output instead of assuming that every page element loaded successfully.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to try
The extension icon is missing Chrome has placed it in the Extensions menu. Open the Extensions menu and pin GoFullPage. Or try the listed Alt+Shift+P shortcut.
A PDF does not scroll or capture Browser PDF documents do not behave like ordinary webpages, and GoFullPage says it cannot access some PDF documents to scroll them. Use the PDF viewer’s own save or export function, or capture the page that embeds the document if that is what you need to document.
The page stops early or sections are missing The page may use custom JavaScript scrolling, load content only after interaction, or change while capture is running. Wait for the page to settle, trigger the needed content first, then retry. If the site controls scrolling with custom code, the extension may not be able to handle it.
The result has blank or repeated bands Scrolling, sticky elements, animations, or layout changes can make neighboring captures inconsistent. Retry after the page settles and avoid interacting with it during capture. Check whether a fixed header or animated section moves between scroll positions.
The output is blank, split, or incomplete on a very long page One image can exceed practical size limits, especially on a high pixel-density display. The FAQ warns that an oversized image may appear blank; GoFullPage may also split a large result into multiple images. Inspect all output parts. Try a PDF export or capture a smaller page region if one enormous image is not essential.
Download does not work The extension may need permission to save files. Use the download control and grant the requested Downloads permission when prompted. The permissions guide says this permission is needed for download buttons and auto-download.
Content inside a frame is missing The page may contain an iframe or frameset that needs additional access. If prompted, grant the frame-related permission for that capture. The FAQ identifies iframe access as necessary to scroll inner frame content.

Privacy and permissions

GoFullPage’s FAQ says captures are stored in browser storage on your computer and are not stored on its servers. It also says the extension may request Downloads permission for saving captures and iframe-related permission to scroll content inside frames. Its permissions guide explains that some permissions are requested only when the relevant function is used. Review the prompt and grant only permissions you understand and need for the capture.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. One GET request returns a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. The API also supports full-page capture, lazy-image loading, viewport and device settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, selector-based capture, and other controls. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.

Cookie and consent banners are accepted like a visitor and removed along with more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots each month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. FAQ

Does GoFullPage capture only what is visible on screen?

No. Full-page mode scrolls through the page and combines the captures. Use visible-area mode when you only need the current viewport.

Can I save the result as a PDF?

Yes. The extension listing describes PDF export. Choose a continuous page or a paginated layout if those options appear in the result controls.

Why might the screenshot be split into multiple images?

A very tall capture can exceed the size practical for one image, particularly on a high pixel-density display. Check each resulting part for completeness.

Can I capture a page that requires login?

If the page is open and available in your Chrome session, you can try capturing it. Check the resulting file carefully for content that appeared only after an interaction or additional loading.
