How to Capture a Webpage with FireShot Behind a Login

Sign in to the page in your browser, then use FireShot’s entire-page capture to save what the page displays. Here’s how to choose a capture mode, troubleshoot problems, and protect sensitive screenshots.

To capture a webpage with FireShot after logging in, sign in to the site normally in your browser, open the page you are allowed to view, and choose FireShot’s Capture entire Page command. FireShot captures the page rendered in your browser session; it does not bypass a login or retrieve account data the signed-in page does not display.

Use Capture entire Page for content below the visible window, Capture visible area for only what is currently on screen, or Capture selection for a region. Review the result before saving, especially if the page contains private account information.

1. Sign in and open the page

  1. Open the website in the browser where FireShot is installed.
  2. Sign in through the site’s normal login flow. Complete any required multi-factor authentication or verification steps yourself.
  3. Navigate to the specific page you want to capture and confirm that its content is visible in the browser.
  4. Wait for delayed content, such as charts or images, to appear before capturing. FireShot’s documentation does not guarantee that every dynamically loaded page will be fully rendered in time.

FireShot works with the page open in your browser. It is not a way to get around access controls, and the screenshot reflects what the current browser session can see.

2. Choose the right FireShot capture mode

Open FireShot using its toolbar button, browser menu, or page context menu. The exact location and wording can vary with the browser and extension version. Choose the mode that matches the portion of the page you need:

Mode What it captures Use it when
Entire page The page beyond the current viewport, including content captured as the page is scrolled. You need a long-page record, such as an account page or report.
Visible area The portion currently visible in the browser window. You need a quick record of the current screen only.
Selected area A region you choose on the page. You need one section, chart, or panel rather than the whole page.

These distinctions are described in the FireShot publisher manual and in the Chrome Web Store listing. The manual is older, so treat its screenshots and button labels as examples rather than a guarantee that the current interface looks the same.

3. Review and save the screenshot

When FireShot finishes, inspect the result for missing sections, blank areas, or content cut off at a scroll boundary. Use the save or export action offered by your installed version and select an available image or PDF format. Formats and editing or export features can differ between browser packages and free and Pro editions; check the current listing and the controls in your installed version.

If the capture contains personal, financial, health, or other sensitive information, store it somewhere appropriate, redact details before sharing, and avoid uploading or sending it unless that is intended. The Firefox listing says captures are stored locally and that the extension can work offline; it also lists permission to access data for all websites. The Chrome listing says the developer disclosed that it will not collect or use user data. These are store and publisher disclosures, not an independent security audit. Review the permissions and applicable privacy information for the version you install.

4. Troubleshoot a failed or incomplete capture

Symptom What to check What to try
The page shows a login screen or access-denied message. The browser may not be signed in to the intended account, or the session may have expired. Sign in through the site, reopen the authorized page, and confirm its content is visible before capturing.
The screenshot stops at the bottom of the window. The selected command may be visible-area capture rather than entire-page capture. Choose the entire-page or full-page command and capture again.
Some content is missing or blank. The content may load late, or it may be inside a separate scrollable panel. Wait for it to appear and retry. If it is in a nested scroll area, try selecting that region if your installed version supports it, or capture the panel separately.
The page layout changes during capture. Content may be loading or moving while the extension processes the page. Wait for the layout to settle and retry. For a changing page, consider capturing the visible area or a specific selection.
FireShot reports that it cannot capture the full page. A support search result records one user report involving a password-protected page; that single report does not establish a general failure or universal fix. Verify that the page is open and visible in the signed-in browser session, retry the entire-page mode, and use the Firefox alternative below if needed.
The save or export option you expect is missing. Available output formats and features vary by version, browser package, and edition. Check the controls in your installed version and its current browser-store listing.

Firefox’s built-in full-page screenshot

If FireShot is unsuitable and you use Firefox, its Developer Tools can capture the current page. Mozilla documents enabling the screenshot icon in Developer Tools settings, then using it to take a full-page capture. The Web Console also supports :screenshot --fullpage; Mozilla says this captures content outside the window bounds and saves a PNG by default. See Mozilla’s screenshot documentation for the current steps and options.

5. Check your browser and FireShot version

Extension features and interfaces can differ between browser stores and publisher distributions. The research for this guide observed different FireShot versions on the Chrome and Firefox listings, so do not assume their versions or features are identical. Check the listing for your browser and the version installed in your browser before relying on a particular output format or capture control. Store listings and version details can change.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need an API call instead of capturing from an already signed-in browser session, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It captures public pages by URL; this request does not use your FireShot browser session or sign in to a private account. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);

These examples capture a URL that is accessible to the API. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before a shot; bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.

Frequently asked questions

Can FireShot capture a page that requires a password?

It can capture what is rendered in a browser session after you sign in normally. A reported full-page capture failure on a password-protected page exists, but it does not show that every protected page fails.

Does full-page capture include content in every scrollable panel?

Not necessarily. A panel with its own scroll area can behave differently from the main document. Try selecting the panel if your version supports it, or capture that content separately.

Can I use ScreenshotNeo to screenshot my private account page?

The example API request captures a URL and does not inherit a login from FireShot or your browser. Do not send private account URLs or credentials unless you have configured an appropriate, authorized workflow using supported API options.
