How to Capture a Webpage with FireShot and Copy It to the Clipboard

Capture a visible area, selected region, or entire webpage with FireShot, then copy the result to your clipboard for pasting into another app.

To capture a webpage with FireShot and copy it to the clipboard, open the page, launch FireShot from its toolbar button, browser menu, or context menu, choose visible area, selected area, or entire webpage, then choose the clipboard output in the available FireShot actions or editor flow. Paste into your destination app with its normal paste command. The exact clipboard button sequence can vary by browser and FireShot version.

Choose what part of the page to capture

FireShot offers three capture extents. Pick based on what you need to share:

Mode What it captures Use it when
Visible area The portion currently shown in the browser viewport You need a quick record of what is on screen
Selected area A region you define on the page You want to share one chart, message, or page section
Entire webpage The page, including content below the viewport You need a full-page record without manually stitching scroll captures

FireShot’s toolbar button defaults to “Capture entire webpage and Edit,” according to its usage guide. If you need a different extent, open the FireShot controls and choose the corresponding capture mode.

Step-by-step: capture and copy with FireShot

  1. Open the target page. Navigate to the webpage and wait for the content you need to appear. For a page that loads content while scrolling, review the result for missing sections after capture.
  2. Launch FireShot. Use the red S toolbar button, the browser’s main menu, or the page’s context menu. The available entry points are described in FireShot’s usage guide.
  3. Choose the capture extent. Select visible-area, selected-area, or entire-page capture. For a selection, define the region when prompted. Entire-page mode is intended to include content that is not visible until you scroll.
  4. Choose clipboard output. In the actions offered after capture or in the editor flow, choose the clipboard option. FireShot documents copying the resulting screenshot to the clipboard; the sources do not establish one button sequence that applies to every browser and version.
  5. Paste the screenshot. Focus the destination app and use its normal paste shortcut or menu command. If nothing appears, see the troubleshooting section below.

For the basic clipboard workflow, you do not need FireShot’s API. Its API is a separate integration path that must be enabled in FireShot options and has browser and minimum-version prerequisites; consult the FireShot API documentation only if you are building an integration.

Check the pasted result

  • Confirm the right extent was captured: visible area, selected region, or the full page.
  • For a full-page capture, inspect the bottom of the pasted image and check whether lazy-loaded sections appeared.
  • Check that the image was pasted as an image rather than a link or file reference. Clipboard behavior depends partly on the destination app.
  • If you need a durable artifact, save or export a file as well. FireShot lists PDF, PNG, GIF, JPEG, and BMP outputs, along with email, printing, and external export; feature availability may depend on the installed edition.

Editing and export options

If you need to clean up a capture before sharing it, FireShot’s product materials describe editing actions such as cropping, resizing, highlighting, blurring, and adding annotations. Availability can depend on the edition. Use clipboard output for quick pasting; use a file or PDF export when you need to keep, attach, or archive the result.

Troubleshooting

Symptom Likely cause What to do
FireShot does not appear when you click the toolbar The extension may be hidden, disabled, or unavailable on the current page. Check the browser’s extensions menu and confirm FireShot is enabled. Try its main-menu or context-menu entry point if available.
The capture covers only what was visible Visible-area mode was selected, or the toolbar’s default action was changed. Open FireShot’s controls and explicitly choose entire webpage capture.
The full-page image is missing sections Some content may load only after scrolling, or the page may restrict or disrupt capture. Wait for the page to settle, scroll through the content that should load, and capture again. Verify the result; full-page fidelity is not guaranteed on every dynamic or restricted page.
The selection is the wrong size The selected-area boundary did not cover the intended content. Repeat the capture and carefully define the region. Use visible-area mode for a quick viewport capture or full-page mode if the content extends below the fold.
Paste inserts nothing The clipboard action may not have completed, or the destination may not accept image data in the current field. Return to FireShot and choose its clipboard output, then focus an image-capable destination such as a document or image editor and paste again. If needed, save an image file and insert it through the destination app.
Paste produces an older screenshot The new capture may not have replaced the clipboard contents. Run the clipboard action again and paste immediately into a blank test document to confirm which capture is on the clipboard.
The clipboard option is not shown Actions differ by browser, version, or edition. Check the post-capture actions and editor flow for clipboard output, then consult FireShot’s current product guidance for the installed edition. Save or export a supported file format if clipboard output is unavailable.
The result is hard to share or too large A long full-page image can be unwieldy in some destination apps. Capture only the needed region, use an available crop or resize action, or export to a format suited to the destination.

Performance, reliability, and privacy considerations

Visible-area capture avoids capturing the rest of a long page, while entire-page mode can take more work because it covers off-screen content. Dynamic pages, content that loads on scroll, and restricted pages can affect completeness; inspect the output instead of assuming every element rendered. FireShot’s Chrome Web Store listing says captures are stored locally, but that is a vendor statement, not an independent privacy assessment. Follow your organization’s rules before copying sensitive page content into another app or service.

Clipboard output is convenient for immediate use, but it is not a reliable archive by itself: later copy operations can replace clipboard contents. Save or export a file when you need a retained copy. FireShot lists image and PDF export options, with availability dependent on edition.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a saved WebP screenshot of a public page, use this cURL request:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API docs for the request options and setup. ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and responses include page-verdict and billed headers. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ

Can I copy a full webpage screenshot, not just the visible part?

Yes. Choose FireShot’s entire-page capture mode, then choose clipboard output in the available actions or editor flow. Check the pasted result for content that loads dynamically.

Does FireShot always use the same clipboard button sequence?

No universal sequence is established across browsers and versions. Look for the clipboard action after capture or in the editor flow.

Do I need FireShot’s API to copy a screenshot?

No. The API is for integrations; an ordinary capture uses the extension interface. API users must enable it in FireShot options and meet its documented browser and version requirements.

Which output should I use if I need to keep the capture?

Use a file or PDF export when you need an artifact that remains available after the clipboard changes. Check your edition for supported export actions.
