How to Capture a Website Screenshot on Windows without Browser UI
Capture just the visible webpage with Snipping Tool, or use Edge and Chrome DevTools for a full-page image without browser controls.
To capture a website on Windows without showing browser tabs or controls, choose the method that matches what you need: use Windows+Shift+S and select the visible page area for a viewport screenshot, or use Capture a full size screenshot in Edge or Chrome DevTools for the entire page, including content below the fold.
These are different kinds of captures. A screen selection records pixels currently visible on your display; DevTools captures the webpage beyond the current viewport. If you only want to hide some browser controls temporarily in Edge, press F11 for full-screen mode and then select the page area.
Choose the right capture method
| What you need | Use | What it captures |
|---|---|---|
| A particular visible part of a page | Snipping Tool, Windows+Shift+S | The screen area you select; you crop out browser controls yourself. |
| The full webpage in one image | Edge or Chrome DevTools | Full page content, including sections below the viewport, without the ordinary browser frame. |
| More room for a visible-area selection in Edge | F11, then Snipping Tool | The visible screen in full-screen mode; it does not capture below the fold. |
| A printable document | Browser print preview | Print output, which is not the same as a screenshot image. |
Capture the visible webpage with Snipping Tool
- Open the page and scroll to the section you want. Set the browser zoom and page position before capturing.
- Press Windows+Shift+S to open the screen capture overlay.
- Choose the rectangular snip mode if it is not already selected.
- Drag around the webpage content. Keep tabs, the address bar, and browser controls outside the selection.
- Open the capture from the Snipping Tool notification or window, make any needed edits, then save it. Microsoft documents Ctrl+S as the save shortcut.
Snipping Tool also has window, full-screen, and freeform modes. For a clean page-only result, rectangular selection is usually easiest because it lets you exclude browser chrome precisely. A screen-area capture cannot include page content that requires scrolling: it captures the visible screen area, not the whole document.
Use Edge full-screen mode to make selection easier
In Microsoft Edge, press F11 to toggle full-screen mode. Then press Windows+Shift+S and select the visible webpage. Press F11 again to leave full-screen mode. This hides much of the browser interface while you capture, but it still produces a viewport screenshot, not a full-page image.
Capture a full webpage with Edge or Chrome DevTools
- Open the target page in Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome.
- Open DevTools. One way is to right-click the page and choose Inspect.
- Turn on Device Emulation or Device Mode using the device toolbar toggle.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot.
The full-size command captures webpage content beyond the current viewport without including the ordinary browser window frame. The command is in the device toolbar’s menu; its exact placement can change between browser versions. Look for the command by name if the menu layout differs.
Use this route when you need one image of a long page. For a screenshot of just the current visible area, Snipping Tool is usually more direct. Full-page capture can produce a very tall image, and pages that load content as you scroll may need time to finish loading before capture.
Do not confuse a screenshot with a printout
In Edge, Ctrl+P opens print preview. Printing can be useful when you need a document laid out for paper or PDF, but the result is print output, not a direct screenshot of the webpage. Use Snipping Tool or DevTools when the required deliverable is an image.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. This example saves a screenshot as WebP; replace the URL with the page you need. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available parameters.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
- Cookie banners are accepted and removed before the shot, along with known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdftools for AI agents. - The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is on every plan.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot includes tabs or the address bar. | The selected rectangle includes browser controls, or you captured the whole screen. | Use rectangular snip mode and select only the webpage, or use Edge full-screen mode before selecting. |
| The lower sections of the page are missing. | Snipping Tool captured only visible screen pixels. | Use the full-size screenshot command in DevTools. |
| You cannot find the full-size screenshot command. | The command is in the Device Toolbar menu and menu placement can vary. | Enable Device Mode, open its More options menu, and look for “Capture a full size screenshot.” |
| The full-page image misses content loaded later. | The site may load images or other content lazily as you scroll, or may not have finished loading. | Wait for the page to settle. For automated capture, configure a wait condition or delay and enable full-page capture with lazy images loaded. |
| F11 does not give a full-page screenshot. | F11 changes the browser display mode; it does not capture content outside the viewport. | Use DevTools full-size capture for the entire page. |
| The result is laid out like a document rather than the page image. | You used print preview. | Use a screenshot capture method for an image; reserve printing for print-ready output. |
Quality, reliability, and cost considerations
- For a manual capture: choose the page zoom, scroll position, and window arrangement first. A rectangular selection gives you control over what is in frame, while DevTools avoids manually stitching sections together.
- For long or dynamic pages: allow content to load before capturing. A full-page screenshot is taller and may be larger than a viewport capture. Some pages change as they load or as you scroll, so inspect the result if completeness matters.
- For repeatable automation: browser-based DevTools capture requires browser setup. ScreenshotNeo can instead accept options for full-page capture, element selection, viewport and device presets, retina scale, waits, custom CSS or JavaScript, cookies, headers, and more. Its response includes page-verdict and billing headers; failed loads and cache hits are not billed.
- For cost planning: Windows Snipping Tool and browser DevTools are built-in capture routes. ScreenshotNeo has a free tier of 1,000 screenshots monthly, then paid plans from $5 for 3,000. Yearly billing gives two months free.
FAQ
Can I take a screenshot without installing software?
Yes. Snipping Tool is included in the documented Windows 10 and Windows 11 workflow, and Edge and Chrome include DevTools capture commands.
Will Windows+Shift+S capture the whole page?
No. It captures a selected area of the visible screen. Use DevTools’ full-size screenshot command for below-the-fold content.
Can I capture only one page element?
For a manual screenshot, select the visible element with a rectangular snip. For API capture, ScreenshotNeo supports capturing an element by CSS selector.
Can I save a screenshot as PDF?
ScreenshotNeo can return a PDF and supports PDF settings such as paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges. Browser print preview is another route for print output, but it is not a direct screenshot.
