How to Check Recent Screenshots on Your Device

Find your latest screenshot on iPhone, Android, Samsung Galaxy, or Windows with the exact folder and app path for your device.

Start here: open the photo or file app for your device and look for an album or folder named Screenshots. The exact path depends on whether you use an iPhone, Android phone, Samsung Galaxy, or Windows PC.

Device Fastest route
iPhone Photos → Collections → Media Types → Screenshots
Android with Google Photos Photos → Collections → On this device → Screenshots
Samsung Galaxy Gallery → Albums → Screenshots
Windows screenshot saved with Windows logo key + PrtScn Pictures → Screenshots

Find screenshots on an iPhone

  1. Open Photos.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Tap Media Types.
  4. Choose Screenshots.

On iOS 18 and earlier, a temporary thumbnail appears in the lower-left corner immediately after you capture the screen. Tap that thumbnail to open the screenshot before it disappears. Apple’s iOS 26 instructions describe quick tools that appear after capture. See Apple’s iPhone screenshot guide for the current behavior.

If Screenshots is not visible, confirm that you are in Media Types, rather than searching only through your camera views. The screenshot must also have been saved successfully before it can appear in Photos.

Find screenshots on Android

Google Photos

  1. Open Photos.
  2. Tap Collections.
  3. Tap On this device.
  4. Open Screenshots.

The On this device step is important: it takes you to folders stored on the phone rather than only cloud or camera views. Google documents this route in its Android screenshot help.

Some Android phones do not include Google Photos or use the manufacturer’s Gallery app instead. Open Gallery and look for an album called Screenshots. The exact menu names can differ by phone maker and Android version.

Find screenshots on a Samsung Galaxy

  1. Open Gallery.
  2. Tap Albums.
  3. Tap Screenshots.

Samsung says that available screens and settings can vary by carrier, software version, and model. If Gallery does not show the album, try My Files → Internal storage → DCIM → Screenshots when that path exists on your Galaxy setup. Treat this file-manager path as a device-dependent fallback. Samsung’s instructions are in its Galaxy screenshot support page and its regional storage-path guidance.

Find screenshots on Windows

Windows captures saved with the keyboard shortcut

If you captured the screen with Windows logo key + PrtScn, open File Explorer → Pictures → Screenshots. Microsoft ties this folder location specifically to that shortcut; other capture methods can save elsewhere or copy only to the clipboard.

Screenshots from an Android phone

If you mean a screenshot stored on a connected Android phone, use Phone Link rather than the Windows Pictures folder. Microsoft says Phone Link can show recent photos and screenshots from supported Android phones without a USB cable, with the cited feature available for Android 7.0 or newer. This is a separate route from locally captured Windows screenshots. See Microsoft’s Print Screen shortcut guidance and Phone Link photo guidance.

When the Screenshots album or folder is missing

  1. Check the app. Android may use Google Photos or the phone maker’s Gallery. Samsung Galaxy devices normally use Gallery.
  2. Check the local-device section. In Google Photos, use Collections → On this device.
  3. Confirm what you captured. A Windows screenshot made with a different tool may not be in Pictures → Screenshots; it may be copied to the clipboard or saved by that tool’s own settings.
  4. Search the file manager. On Android, search for “Screenshots” or inspect the DCIM folders when your model exposes them.
  5. Check the date and sorting. The newest image may be at the end of an album if the app is sorted oldest-first.
  6. Consider device variation. Samsung explicitly notes that menus and settings differ by model, carrier, and software version.

These steps identify where the built-in apps expose saved screenshots. They do not prove that a capture was saved, backed up, or synchronized to a cloud library.

Open, share, or verify the newest screenshot

  • Open the Screenshots album and sort by newest if your app offers sorting.
  • Tap the image to see its timestamp or file details.
  • Use the share button to send it to another app.
  • On Android or Windows, use file details to confirm the storage location and file type.
  • If you need the original pixels, avoid sending it through a messaging app that compresses images before saving a copy.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need to create fresh screenshots programmatically instead of finding an existing one, ScreenshotNeo provides a single-request website screenshot API. It accepts a URL and returns PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Before capture it can accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and whether the request was billed.

Read the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for all options. Basic calls:

cURL

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" \
  -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY \
  --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com \
  -o shot.webp

Python

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({
  access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
  url: 'https://stripe.com'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const data = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await Bun.write('shot.webp', data);

ScreenshotNeo also supports full-page capture with lazy images loaded, CSS-element capture, dark mode, device presets, custom viewports, retina scale, PDF settings, custom CSS and JavaScript, clicks, selector or network-idle waits, request blocking, headers, cookies, user agents, authorization, timezone, geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, configurable caching, signed links, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call, usage reporting, and an OpenAPI specification. Its MCP server exposes take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.

There is a free plan with 1,000 screenshots per month and no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is available on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

Troubleshooting checklist

Problem Likely cause Fix
Nothing appears in Screenshots The wrong photo app or album is open Use the platform route above; on Android check both Photos and Gallery.
Google Photos shows no folder You skipped the local-device view Open Collections → On this device → Screenshots.
Galaxy Gallery differs from these steps Model, carrier, or software variation Check Gallery → Albums, then try My Files and search for Screenshots.
Windows Pictures folder is empty The screenshot used another shortcut or was copied only to the clipboard Repeat with Windows logo key + PrtScn or inspect the tool that captured it.
A phone screenshot is not on the PC You are checking local Windows captures Use Phone Link for recent screenshots from a supported Android phone.
ScreenshotNeo response is not an image The page failed, timed out, triggered a bot check, or returned a blank result Inspect the response status and X-Page-Verdict/X-Billed headers, then adjust waits, headers, cookies, or blocking options.

Performance, reliability, and storage notes

  • For local devices, the built-in Photos, Gallery, and File Explorer apps are the fastest way to inspect a recent file.
  • For Windows, the save location depends on the capture method, so identify the shortcut or application first.
  • On Samsung, allow for model and software differences when documenting instructions for a team.
  • For automated captures, use a selector wait or network-idle wait when pages render asynchronously. Use caching with a TTL when the same URL is requested repeatedly.
  • Use bulk capture for batches and asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks when a request should not block a worker.
  • Only successful clean shots are billed by ScreenshotNeo; cache hits and failed or unusable page results are not billed.

FAQ

Are screenshots always in the camera roll?

No. They are normally grouped in a Screenshots album or folder, separate from camera photos.

Why does Android have two different paths?

Google documents Google Photos and a Gallery fallback. Phone makers can use their own gallery app and storage layout.

Does Pictures → Screenshots contain phone screenshots?

Only when you are looking at a Windows capture saved by the relevant shortcut. Phone images require a transfer or Phone Link route.

Can I use ScreenshotNeo to find a screenshot already on my phone?

No. ScreenshotNeo creates screenshots of web pages through its API or MCP server. Use your device’s Photos, Gallery, or file app to find an existing image.
