How to Check Target Inventory and Get Back-in-Stock Alerts
Check a specific Target store’s inventory, understand pickup and Drive Up options, and learn why Target does not offer restock alerts.
Short answer: Select the Target store you want in the Target app or on Target.com, then search for the item and check its product page for that store’s availability and fulfillment options. Target says it does not provide notifications when an item becomes available. Its online availability can also be incomplete, inaccurate, or delayed, so treat a status as a snapshot rather than a guarantee. Target Help: Price Match Guarantee
How to check inventory at a Target store
- Choose the store you care about. In the Target app, open the Account or Name tab, select Change next to the current store, search by city, state, or ZIP code, choose the location, and save it. On Target.com, use Find stores to search by ZIP code or city and state. See Target’s store finder instructions.
- Search for the exact item. Check the product page after confirming the selected store. Availability and fulfillment choices may differ by item and location.
- Review the available ways to get it. For eligible items, the page may offer Order Pickup or Drive Up. The app describes Drive Up for participating stores; follow the options shown for that item and location. Target’s Drive Up and Order Pickup help explains these services.
- Act promptly, but keep checking if needed. Store inventory can change between viewing a product page and arriving or placing an order.
Does Target send back-in-stock alerts?
No. Target Help’s Price Match Guarantee page says Target “does not provide notifications when the product is available.” Target also says it cannot guarantee availability or hold merchandise. The available evidence supports checking the selected store’s product page again; it does not establish a reliable third-party Target restock-alert service.
There is an important distinction between a restock alert and an order update. If you place an eligible pickup order, Target says it will email you when the order is ready. You can also enable optional push notifications for order status. Those messages concern an order you already placed; they are not alerts for an unpurchased item coming back in stock. Details are in Target’s pickup help.
Why the availability shown online may be wrong
Target cautions that online availability information may not be complete or accurate, and that updates can lag. An item marked available may have sold or otherwise become unavailable before you act. The displayed status is useful for deciding what to try, but it is not a reservation or a guarantee. See Target’s help for item or pricing errors.
Choose between pickup, Drive Up, and checking in store
| Option | When it may fit | What to keep in mind |
|---|---|---|
| Order Pickup | The product page offers pickup and you want to place an order for the selected store. | Wait for Target’s ready-for-pickup message before collecting the order. |
| Drive Up | The item and store offer Drive Up and you prefer that fulfillment option. | Availability of the service depends on the item and participating store. |
| Check the store again | You are deciding whether to travel or want to recheck a changing listing. | A displayed stock status is not guaranteed, and Target does not promise to hold merchandise. |
A practical recheck routine
- Confirm the selected store is the location you plan to visit or order from.
- Reopen the item page close to the time you plan to act and review the current availability and fulfillment choices.
- If Pickup or Drive Up is offered and suits your plans, follow that option and wait for the order-ready message before setting out to collect it.
- If the item is unavailable, check the page again later. Target does not offer a published restock notification for an item you have not ordered.

If you are documenting a product page or building a workflow that needs a webpage screenshot, ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one API request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. Its clean-shot options accept cookie or consent banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers indicate the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents and MCP clients.
For a page you are authorized to capture, this cURL request saves a WebP image:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
url: 'https://stripe.com'
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. The service also supports PNG, JPEG, and PDF output, full-page capture, element capture, viewport and device settings, custom CSS or JavaScript, waits, request blocking, caching, async jobs, bulk capture, and other options. Keep your API key private. The Free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots, and every feature is on every plan.
Cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000. Troubleshooting
- The wrong store’s availability appears: Check the selected store in the app’s Account or Name tab, or use Target.com’s store finder, then revisit the item page.
- The product page says available, but the item is missing: Target warns that inventory information may be delayed or inaccurate. Recheck the listing and ask the store about current availability; the online status is not a guarantee.
- No Pickup or Drive Up option appears: The item or selected store may not offer that fulfillment option. Use only the options displayed for the specific product and location.
- You expected a restock message but received none: Target says it does not provide notifications when an item becomes available. Pickup-ready emails and order-status push messages apply to an existing order.
- A pickup order is canceled: Availability can change, and a displayed status does not guarantee an item will remain available. Check Target’s help page, Why was my Drive Up or Order Pickup item canceled?, for guidance.
FAQ
Can Target hold an item while I travel to the store?
Target says it cannot guarantee availability or hold merchandise. If an eligible pickup order is offered, placing it and waiting for the ready message is the supported way to know that an order is ready for collection.
Are pickup notifications the same as restock alerts?
No. A pickup-ready email or optional order-status push notification relates to an order already placed, not an item becoming available for purchase.
Can I check more than one nearby Target?
Use the app or website store finder to select another location, then check the item page for that store. Recheck close to when you intend to act because availability can change.
Does a listing marked unavailable prove the store has none?
Not necessarily. Target says online availability information may be incomplete or delayed, so the listing should not be treated as a definitive count either way.
