To capture a web page in Chrome Guest Mode, open Chrome’s Guest profile, load the page, then use DevTools: choose Capture area screenshot for a selected rectangle, or use Device Mode’s Capture a full size screenshot for the whole page. Guest Mode separates the session from your regular Chrome profile; it does not make browsing anonymous or automatically delete screenshot files you download.

This guide covers desktop Chrome on Windows, Linux, and Mac. Google says Guest Mode is unavailable on Chromebooks and mobile devices. Google’s Guest Mode instructions explain how to start and end a guest session.

1. Open a Chrome Guest session

  1. Open Chrome on your computer.
  2. Select the profile control at the top right of the browser window.
  3. Choose Guest profile. Chrome opens a separate Guest window.
  4. In that window, navigate to the page you want to capture and wait for the content you need to appear.

Guest Mode is useful on a shared computer or when you want a browsing session separate from your regular Chrome profile. A school or workplace administrator can manage whether Guest browsing is available; if the option is missing on a managed computer, follow your organization’s rules. See Chrome’s policy documentation.

2. Capture a selected area of the page

Use the DevTools Command Menu to save a rectangle, such as a chart, article excerpt, or visible portion of a page.

  1. Open DevTools. You can right-click the page and choose Inspect, or use the browser’s DevTools shortcut.
  2. Keep DevTools docked in the browser window. The area screenshot command requires docked DevTools.
  3. Press Ctrl+Shift+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+P on Mac, to open the Command Menu.
  4. Type screenshot.
  5. Select Capture area screenshot.
  6. Drag over the rectangle you want to save. Chrome downloads the captured area.

For the documented workflow and shortcut details, see Chrome for Developers’ Command Menu guide.

3. Capture the full page, including content below the fold

A normal screenshot captures the visible viewport. To include page content beyond the current screen, use the full-size option in DevTools Device Mode.

  1. Open DevTools.
  2. Turn on Device Mode using the device toolbar control in DevTools.
  3. Open the Device Mode More options menu.
  4. Select Capture a full size screenshot.
  5. Wait for Chrome to generate and download the image.

Choose Capture screenshot from the same menu when you only want the emulated viewport. Chrome documents the distinction in its Device Mode guide.

4. Choose the right capture method

What you need Chrome method What it captures
A selected rectangle Command Menu → Capture area screenshot The area you drag over; DevTools must be docked.
The visible page only Device Mode → More options → Capture screenshot The current emulated viewport.
The whole tall page Device Mode → More options → Capture a full size screenshot The full page, including content outside the viewport.

If a page has not finished loading, scroll through it first when needed and wait for important content. Pages that load images or other sections only as they enter view may not show all intended content until they have been scrolled into view.

5. Find the downloaded screenshot and close Guest Mode

Chrome downloads the screenshot as a file. Use the browser’s download indicator or open your computer’s Downloads folder to locate it, then move or rename it if needed. Closing Guest Mode clears local browsing history, cookies, and site data for the guest session; it does not promise to delete files you separately downloaded.

When finished, close the Guest window or choose Close guest from the profile menu. Google notes that websites, signed-in services, network administrators, internet providers, search engines, and device owners may still have visibility into activity. Guest Mode is not anonymity. Sign in to sensitive sites only on trusted devices. See Google’s privacy notes for Guest browsing.

6. Limitations by device

  • Chromebook: Google says Chrome Guest Mode is unavailable. A Chromebook may have device-level screenshot controls, but those are not Chrome Guest Mode. See Chromebook screenshot instructions.
  • Mobile: Guest Mode is not available in Chrome on mobile devices. On Android, Chrome blocks screenshots in Incognito mode and Google suggests opening the page in another tab to take a screenshot. That is an Incognito restriction, not a Guest Mode rule. See Google’s Android Incognito help.
  • Managed desktop: An administrator may control Guest browsing or DevTools. Do not try to bypass a policy; ask the administrator which capture workflow is allowed.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a repeatable capture from code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie and consent banners, removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of those steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers say the page verdict and whether the request was billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

Create a free ScreenshotNeo account and start with 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
Guest profile is missing Guest browsing may be unavailable on this device or disabled by a managed policy. Confirm you are using desktop Chrome. On a managed computer, ask the administrator about the permitted workflow.
Capture area screenshot is missing or does not start DevTools may be undocked, or the Command Menu may not be open. Dock DevTools, press Ctrl+Shift+P or Command+Shift+P, and search for “screenshot.”
Image contains only what was visible You selected the viewport screenshot command. Use Device Mode → More options → Capture a full size screenshot for the complete page.
Full-page image omits content Some page content may load only after scrolling or after a delay. Wait for the page and scroll through lazy-loaded sections before trying the capture again.
You cannot find the image The download may have gone to Chrome’s default download location. Check Chrome’s download indicator and the Downloads folder; move the file before closing the session if needed.
DevTools or Guest Mode is blocked A browser or device policy may disable the feature. Follow the administrator’s rules and request an approved way to capture the page.

Performance, reliability, and privacy notes

  • Large pages take longer: A full-size capture has more page area to render than a viewport or selected-area image. Wait for loading to finish before capturing.
  • Dynamic pages vary: Content can change while the page is open. For a stable result, wait until the page reaches the state you want and avoid triggering navigation during capture.
  • Keep the output: Guest session cleanup concerns browsing data; downloaded screenshots are separate files. Save the result to the intended location.
  • Privacy has limits: Guest Mode separates local Chrome session data and clears it when the session ends. It does not conceal activity from the sites you visit or parties that can observe the device or network.

Frequently asked questions

Does Chrome Guest Mode save my screenshot?

Yes. The screenshot is downloaded as a file. Closing Guest Mode clears session browsing data, not files you separately downloaded.

Is Guest Mode the same as Incognito?

No. They are separate Chrome browsing modes. This guide uses the Guest profile launched from the desktop profile menu.

Can I take a full-page screenshot without scrolling manually?

Use Device Mode’s Capture a full size screenshot command. Pages with lazy-loaded content may need scrolling first so the content loads.

Does Guest Mode hide my browsing from websites or my employer?

No. It clears local guest session data when closed, but does not make browsing anonymous or prevent visibility to websites and network or device administrators.
