How to Clip a Webpage from a Regional-Language News Site in India
Save a regional-language news article as a PDF, clean text clip, screenshot, or mobile note. Keep the original URL and check every saved copy.
For a single article, use your browser’s print dialog to save a PDF; for searchable, organized text, use a web clipper such as Evernote Web Clipper in Article or Simplified Article mode. For a visual record, save a screenshot. First copy the original article URL, then check that your saved copy contains the headline, article body, publication date, and attribution. Regional-language news sites may use dynamic content, ads, video, and scripts, so no one capture method works perfectly on every page. Treat a clip as a snapshot, keep the publisher’s link with it, and do not use clipping to bypass a paywall or other access restriction.
1. Choose what you need to keep
| Method | Best for | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Browser print to PDF | A fixed, shareable document that preserves readable text | Interactive content and links may not carry over as expected; print layouts vary by site. |
| Browser save-page feature | A local copy for offline reference | Browser behavior and saved format vary. Check the result before relying on it. |
| Evernote Article or Simplified Article | Organized text that is easier to read and search | Automatic article detection can omit or misread content on complex pages. |
| Evernote Full page | More of the page’s structure and surrounding context | Navigation and page furniture remain, which can make the article harder to read. |
| Screenshot | A visual record of how the page looked at capture time | Text in an image is less convenient to search, select, or copy. |
| Translate, then clip | Reading a supported page in another language | Availability depends on the tool, language, and region; translation can alter meaning. |
For a one-off article, PDF is usually a practical balance between portability and readability. If you regularly collect stories and want them in a searchable notebook, an article clipper is more convenient. If the page’s visual appearance, chart, or layout matters, preserve a screenshot as well as the URL.
2. Save a browser copy
- Open the article in its original language and copy the page URL into your notes or the saved document’s metadata.
- Use the browser’s print command and choose its PDF destination if available. Review the print preview before saving: check page breaks, headline, body, date, and attribution.
- If you need an offline webpage rather than a fixed document, use the browser’s page-saving feature where available. Reopen the saved file offline to confirm that it contains the article and not just a link or partial shell.
- Give the file a descriptive name, for example
publisher-story-date.pdf, and record the original URL and capture date in the filename, document notes, or your archive index.
Browser menus and save formats differ across operating systems and versions, so use the browser’s own print or save controls rather than assuming one menu path applies everywhere. A PDF is a snapshot; it does not automatically include corrections or additions published later.
3. Clip readable text with Evernote
Evernote Web Clipper provides Article, Simplified Article, Full page, Screenshot, Selection, and Bookmark capture options. Article attempts to capture the main story. Simplified Article removes more layout clutter. Full page retains more of the page, while Screenshot gives you a static visual capture. Selection is useful when you want to save only text or images you selected; Bookmark keeps a reference to the page. Available options can vary by browser, and Evernote documents that its PDF page option is unavailable in Firefox. See its clip format guide for details.
- Open the original article and copy its URL somewhere you will retain even if the clip also stores it.
- Open the Web Clipper from the browser toolbar and choose Article first. If the result misses the story or includes too much clutter, try Simplified Article.
- Use Selection if automatic detection keeps grabbing the wrong section. Select the story text or images on the page before opening the clipper.
- Choose Full page or Screenshot if the article’s layout, charts, or surrounding context matter more than clean text.
- Choose a notebook and tags that will help you find the story later. Save, then open the result and verify it before closing the source tab.
On a phone, Evernote documents saving a webpage through the iOS or Android share action. On iOS, share the page and select Evernote; on Android, use the browser’s Share action and choose Evernote. The saved formatting may differ from what the browser displayed. If sharing the page is unavailable, try selecting the relevant text or images and sharing that selection. See Evernote’s mobile save instructions.
4. Translate only when you need to
If you can read the original, clipping it directly avoids introducing a translation step. When you do need a translated view, preserve the original URL and language alongside the translated copy, and check important names, dates, figures, and quotations against the source.
- Google Translate on desktop: its documented website flow lets you enter a URL, set the source language to Detect language, and switch between the translated and original page. Google says this feature is not supported in all regions. See Google’s website translation instructions.
- Firefox Translations: Firefox says its webpage translations happen on the device, and its help notes that translation applies to text rather than non-text content. Its supported languages and mobile availability are specific to Firefox and can change; consult Firefox’s current translation help rather than assuming a particular Indian language is supported.
- Google Search translated results: the languages Google lists for translated results on mobile apply to that Search feature only. They do not establish that every Google translation workflow supports the same languages or pages. Check Google’s translated results help for its current scope.
Translation can be unavailable for a region, language, or particular page. A translated page can also omit page elements or change phrasing. Keep the source URL so you can return to the publisher’s version.
5. Verify the saved article
Before you rely on a clip, compare it with the open source page. Confirm these details:
- The headline and the complete article body are present, including the ending.
- The publisher, byline or attribution, and publication date are retained when available.
- Important images, charts, captions, corrections, and embedded media are represented or noted.
- The original URL is attached to your note or stored beside the file, and the capture date is recorded.
- If you translated the page, you can identify which copy is translated and which is original.
A clip cannot show later corrections unless you revisit the live page. For a story you may cite or share, include the publisher’s link and distinguish your saved copy from the current article.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The clip contains the headline but not the article. | The page structure or scripts prevented article detection. | Try Simplified Article, then select the story manually. Use Full page or a screenshot if text capture still fails. Evernote recommends trying another clip type or selecting the relevant content. |
| The clip contains navigation, ads, or unrelated stories. | The clipping tool identified too broad a section. | Try Simplified Article or select only the story. Check the saved note before discarding the original tab. |
| The print preview is blank or cuts off paragraphs. | The site may render content dynamically or use a print layout that changes the page. | Wait for the article to finish loading, inspect the preview, and try a text clip or screenshot if the PDF remains incomplete. |
| Images or video are missing. | Embedded media may be loaded separately or may not be preserved by the selected format. | Use Full page or Screenshot for visual context, and add a note identifying media that did not save. |
| The mobile clip looks different from the browser. | Mobile sharing can preserve a different layout. | Open the saved item and verify it; use a browser PDF or screenshot if exact appearance matters. Evernote notes that saved formatting may differ from the browser view. |
| The translated page will not open. | The translation workflow may not be available in your region or may not handle that page. | Open the original URL directly, try another supported translation workflow, or save the original and translate selected text separately. |
| The page asks you to subscribe or sign in. | The article is access controlled. | Use only content you are authorized to view and save. Clipping is not a way to bypass a paywall or site restrictions. |
7. Preserve context and keep the archive useful
- Store the source URL and capture date with every PDF, screenshot, or text clip.
- Use consistent filenames or notebook tags such as publisher, topic, language, and date.
- Keep original-language text when accuracy matters; label translated versions clearly.
- For important reporting, revisit the live link before quoting or sharing because articles can change.
- Respect publisher terms and applicable copyright rules, especially before redistributing a saved copy.
8. Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot image of a news page for a research record or application workflow, ScreenshotNeo returns a capture from one GET request. It captures a visual image; it does not replace a searchable text clip or make a translation. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/news-article -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://example.com/news-article"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://example.com/news-article' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Replace the example URL with the public article URL and keep your access key private. ScreenshotNeo removes known cookie-consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents screenshot, page-information, and PDF capture tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ
Which format is best for reading later?
Use a PDF for a portable fixed copy, or an Article/Simplified Article clip when searchable text and organization matter more.
Does a screenshot preserve the article text?
It preserves a visual image of the page, not convenient editable text. Keep the URL and use a text clip when you need searchable content.
Can I save a translated article instead of the original?
You can save a supported translated view, but label it as translated and retain the original URL. Translation availability and results vary.
Will a saved copy include future updates?
No. A PDF, clip, or screenshot records what was captured at that time. Return to the publisher’s page for later corrections or additions.
