How to Convert a GST Invoice Webpage to PDF in India
Save a GST invoice webpage as a PDF in Chrome, use an IRP-generated PDF when available, and check the saved file before sharing it.
To save a GST invoice webpage as a PDF in Chrome on a computer, open the invoice, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux or Command+P on Mac, choose Save as PDF, review the preview, and save the file. On Chrome for Android, open the page, tap More > Share > Print, choose Save as PDF, select a location, and save. If the invoice is an e-invoice available in an Invoice Registration Portal (IRP), use the portal’s PDF-generation or download option when you need its issued representation.
A browser-created PDF saves a rendering of the webpage. Saving it does not issue, amend, or authenticate the underlying invoice. For an IRP record, prefer its portal-generated PDF where available and retain the original invoice or source record.
Save the invoice from Chrome on a computer
- Open the invoice webpage and wait for it to finish loading. Sign in if the issuing site requires it.
- Open Chrome’s print dialog with Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. You can also use Chrome’s Print command.
- In the destination or printer selector, choose Save as PDF.
- Inspect the preview. Set the page range, paper size, orientation, margins, and scale as needed. Turn off headers and footers if they add unwanted browser details. Available settings vary by platform.
- Save the file with a recognizable name, such as
invoice-number-date.pdf. - Open the saved PDF and check every page before sharing or filing it.
Google documents the platform shortcuts as Ctrl+P for Windows and Linux and Command+P for Mac, followed by the print workflow. See Google’s instructions for printing from Chrome on a computer.
Fix clipped or split invoice content
If columns, totals, or invoice details are cut off, return to the print preview and try landscape orientation, a smaller scale, or narrower margins. If the invoice spans pages unexpectedly, check the page breaks and preview each page. Browser print controls depend on the operating system and page, so verify the saved PDF rather than assuming the preview settings were applied as intended.
Save a GST invoice as PDF on Chrome for Android
- Open the invoice webpage in Chrome and let the invoice finish loading.
- Tap More > Share > Print.
- Open the printer selector and choose Save as PDF.
- Choose a device location and save.
- Open the saved file and check that the invoice details and all pages are present.
These steps are for Chrome on Android; other mobile browsers and devices may have different menus. Refer to Google’s Android printing instructions.
Use the IRP’s PDF for an e-invoice record
If the invoice is available in an e-invoice portal, look for that portal’s print or PDF-generation workflow. IRIS IRP’s help describes initiating Print for selected records, waiting for generation to succeed, and then downloading the PDF. Its FAQ describes printing from the e-invoice dashboard using an acknowledgement number or the 64-character IRN, and says the seller or buyer can print using the signed JSON returned by the IRP. Portal screens and menus can change, so follow the live portal instructions.
Choose the route that matches what you need:
| Route | What it gives you | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Browser Print > Save as PDF | A PDF rendering of the invoice webpage as displayed | The invoice is accessible in a browser and you need a convenient copy |
| IRP PDF generation or download | A PDF generated for the e-invoice record in the portal | You need the portal’s representation of an IRP record |
| GSTR-1 e-invoice details export | The GST Portal guide describes downloading details in Excel format | You need e-invoice details data, rather than an individual invoice PDF |
See IRIS IRP help and FAQ for its portal workflow. The GST Portal GSTR-1 guide covers downloading or viewing e-invoice details; that details export is not the same as downloading an individual invoice PDF.
Check the PDF before relying on it
Rule 46 of the CGST Rules prescribes particulars for a tax invoice. The following are useful checks, not a complete statement of every prescribed particular:
- Supplier name, address, and GSTIN
- Invoice serial number and date of issue
- Recipient details, where applicable
- Description and value of goods or services
- Tax details and totals
- All pages, including any continuation pages
- Any e-invoice QR code or IRN shown in the original
Confirm that text is legible and that no content is missing or clipped. Rule 46 has further prescribed particulars, so use the applicable rule and records for a complete compliance check. Making a PDF does not itself establish that the invoice contains the required particulars or authenticate it. Read CBIC’s invoice rules and CGST Rules, including Rule 46.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Invoice content is missing | The page had not finished loading, or content appeared only after signing in or interacting with the page | Return to the invoice, sign in if required, wait for the content, and print again. Inspect all pages in the preview. |
| Right-hand columns or totals are cut off | The page is wider than the selected paper layout | Try landscape, reduce scale, or adjust margins, then review the preview. |
| Invoice text is too small | The scale was reduced too far to fit the page width | Try landscape or a larger paper size if available, and compare legibility against the original page. |
| Browser headers or footers appear | Headers and footers are enabled in print settings | Disable that option if available and save again. |
| Some pages are absent | A page range was selected, or the invoice did not load completely | Choose all pages, wait for full loading, and verify the saved file page by page. |
| IRP PDF is not ready to download | The portal is still generating it, or generation did not succeed | Wait for a successful generation status and follow the portal’s current instructions. |
| The GST Portal download is a spreadsheet | You used the GSTR-1 e-invoice details export | That export is for details in Excel; use the invoice webpage’s print flow or the IRP’s PDF workflow for an invoice PDF. |
Or skip the browser setup
If you need to capture an accessible invoice webpage programmatically, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its API can return an image or PDF; for a PDF capture, use the PDF output option described in the ScreenshotNeo API documentation. This example makes the documented one-call request for an image response; replace the target URL with the invoice page URL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Use the portal’s own PDF when you need the IRP-generated representation of an e-invoice, and verify any captured invoice before relying on it.
Sign up for ScreenshotNeo’s free plan: 1,000 screenshots a month, no card required.
FAQ
Does saving a webpage as PDF make the invoice legally valid?
Saving creates a copy of what the browser rendered. It does not issue, amend, or authenticate the invoice. Keep the source record and use the IRP PDF when you need the portal’s representation of an e-invoice.
Can I download an individual invoice PDF from the GSTR-1 details export?
The cited GST Portal guide describes its e-invoice details download as Excel. Use the invoice page’s print flow or the relevant IRP PDF-generation workflow for a PDF.
What if I only have the signed IRP JSON?
IRIS IRP’s FAQ says a seller or buyer can print an e-invoice using the signed JSON returned by the IRP. Follow the portal’s current instructions for that workflow.
