How to take a full-page screenshot in Firefox without cutting off the bottom

Use Firefox’s Save full page control to capture the whole page. If the image still cuts off, check the capture choice and troubleshoot carefully.

To capture the whole page in Firefox, open the page’s screenshot tool and choose Save full page. Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot, or use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. Then choose Download to save the image or Copy to paste it elsewhere. Save visible captures only the current viewport, so it will leave content below the window out.

Capture the full page in Firefox

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture.
  2. Right-click an empty area of the page and choose Take Screenshot. If that option is inconvenient, use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
  3. In the screenshot controls, select Save full page, shown in the upper-right area.
  4. Choose Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s default downloads folder, or choose Copy to put the capture on your clipboard.

Mozilla documents both the context-menu and keyboard methods, as well as the options to save or copy screenshots. See Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot instructions.

Full page versus visible area

Choice What it captures Use it when
Save full page The full webpage, including content beyond the visible browser window. You need a long-page reference or record.
Save visible Only the part currently visible in the browser window. You need a screenshot of the current viewport.

If Firefox only captures the visible part, reopen the screenshot tool and check that Save full page is selected before downloading or copying.

Add a Screenshot button to the toolbar

If you prefer a toolbar control, open the Firefox menu and choose More Tools → Customize Toolbar. Mozilla’s instructions describe adding the Screenshot button from the toolbar customization screen.

When the screenshot still cuts off the bottom

First verify the capture mode: Firefox offers separate full-page and visible-area choices. If you chose full page and a particular site still produces an incomplete image, the current official instructions do not identify one universal cause or guarantee a fix.

  1. Retry the capture. Reopen the tool, select Save full page, and capture again.
  2. Check whether an extension or theme is involved. As a diagnostic, test Firefox with extensions disabled or in Troubleshoot Mode, and try the default theme. If the capture changes, re-enable extensions one at a time to identify a possible conflict.
  3. Consider hardware acceleration only as a test. An archived 2019 support discussion describes one user seeing improvement on one page after disabling hardware acceleration, while longer pages could still fail. This is an anecdotal historical clue, not a confirmed current cause or general fix. Record the existing setting, test the capture, and restore it if there is no improvement.
  4. Compare another page. If only one page is affected, the problem may depend on that page or its length. The available evidence does not establish a current maximum page height or a specific cutoff threshold.

The historical support discussion concerns Firefox 67.0.4-era troubleshooting, so treat its suggestions as clues rather than current guarantees. Read the archived Mozilla Support thread.

Or skip the browser setup

For a screenshot API workflow, ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one GET request. A full-page capture can load lazy images. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for capture options and response details.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
  • Cookie banners are accepted and removed, and known consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture; each step can be turned off.
  • Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Response headers report the page verdict and billing status.

Performance, reliability, and cost

Firefox’s built-in tool is a direct choice when you are already viewing a page and need an occasional full-page image. If it cuts off, retry the full-page option and use the troubleshooting checks above; Mozilla’s current instructions do not promise a maximum page length or a universal remedy for failures.

For automated captures, ScreenshotNeo offers configurable capture options including full-page capture with lazy images loaded, caching with a chosen TTL, and bulk capture of up to 100 URLs per call. Its stated plans range from 1,000 free screenshots monthly to paid tiers; yearly billing gives two months free. Only clean shots are billed. Check the documentation for the request parameters and response headers before building billing or retry logic around the API.

Troubleshooting quick reference

Symptom Likely check What to do
Only the viewport appears Save visible may have been selected. Choose Save full page and recapture.
The capture button is hard to find The toolbar may not show it. Use the page context menu or keyboard shortcut; add the button through More Tools → Customize Toolbar.
A page remains cut off after selecting full page Could be page-specific, extension/theme-related, or associated with a long page; the cause is not established by current official guidance. Retry, test with extensions disabled and the default theme, and compare another page.
Disabling hardware acceleration did not help The archived report was an individual historical case. Restore the original setting; do not treat that change as a guaranteed fix.

FAQ

Does Firefox save the screenshot as an image?

Yes. Mozilla describes downloading the screenshot as an image or copying it to the clipboard.

Can I capture just what is currently on screen?

Yes. Choose Save visible for the viewport rather than Save full page.

Is there a confirmed maximum full-page screenshot length?

The sources used here do not establish a current numeric limit. A historical forum thread mentions possible size limitations, but it does not verify a current threshold.
