Firefox Screenshots Not Capturing the Entire Page: Troubleshooting Guide

Firefox’s Save full page option should capture the whole webpage. Here’s how to check the capture mode, troubleshoot cutoffs, and save a complete screenshot another way.

Firefox’s Save full page option requests a screenshot of the entire webpage. Save visible captures only the part currently on screen. If a full-page capture is still cut off, confirm the mode, let the page finish loading, save the result for inspection, and try Firefox Troubleshoot Mode to check whether extensions or hardware acceleration may be involved.

Choose the full-page capture mode

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture.
  2. Open Firefox Screenshots. You can right-click an empty part of the page and choose Take Screenshot, or use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
  3. Select Save full page. Do not select Save visible if you need content below the current viewport.
  4. Wait for the capture to finish, then choose Download to save a PNG in Firefox’s default download folder, or Copy to put the screenshot on your clipboard.

Firefox also lets you capture an automatically highlighted part of the page or draw a region manually. Those modes are useful for a section or illustration, but they do not request the entire page.

Check that the page has finished loading

Pages can add content after the initial load, including images and sections triggered by scrolling. Before capturing:

  • Wait for the page’s loading indicator to stop.
  • Scroll through the page if it uses lazy-loaded content, then return to the top and capture again.
  • Check whether the missing content appears in the live page. If it does not, the screenshot cannot include it.
  • Download the result and inspect the saved PNG separately from the preview or clipboard result.

These steps help distinguish content that has not loaded from content omitted during capture. They do not guarantee that every page’s scripts or dynamically loaded sections will behave the same way during a screenshot.

When the Screenshot command is missing

Try one of Firefox’s documented desktop entry points:

  • Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot.
  • Use Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
  • To keep the control visible, open toolbar customization and add the Screenshot button to the toolbar.

Menu labels and available controls can differ by platform and Firefox version. Mozilla’s instructions describe these desktop shortcuts; they do not establish that full-page capture works identically on desktop, Android, and iOS.

Diagnose cutoffs and failed captures

Try Firefox Troubleshoot Mode

Start Firefox in Troubleshoot Mode and repeat the capture. If the result changes, an extension or hardware acceleration may be contributing. Mozilla Support suggested this check in a specific support case; it is a diagnostic, not proof of a universal cause. If the behavior does not change, return to the normal mode and continue checking the page and capture options.

Consider very long pages carefully

A 2019 Mozilla Support discussion describes full-page screenshots cutting off on very long pages. That historical report does not establish a current, universal maximum page length or a configurable threshold. If a long page is consistently truncated, try capturing smaller sections or use a different capture method.

Compare the output methods

Choice What it does Useful when
Save full page Requests the entire page You need content above and below the viewport
Save visible Captures the current viewport You need only what is on screen
Automatic page part or manual region Captures a selected part of the page You need one section or element
Download Saves a PNG in the default download folder You want a file to inspect or share
Copy Copies the screenshot to the clipboard You want to paste it into another app

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. For a quick test, this cURL command saves a WebP screenshot of a long page:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" \
  -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY \
  --data-urlencode url=https://example.com/long-page \
  -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for setup and options. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups and chat widgets before capture, and each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages and failed loads are never billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Performance, reliability and cost

  • Firefox: The built-in tool avoids setting up an external capture service. Very long pages and content that loads dynamically may need additional checks; the cited support material does not define a current page-size limit.
  • ScreenshotNeo: The API returns an image or PDF, and response headers say whether a page passed its checks and whether the request was billed. Blank pages, bot checks, failed loads, timeouts and cache hits cost nothing. The free allowance is 1,000 shots per month; paid plans begin at $5 for 3,000. Yearly billing gives two months free.

FAQ

Does Firefox collect the page URL or image details when I use Screenshots?

Mozilla says its Screenshots event data includes interactions with controls such as Copy or Save full page, but not the page URL or details of the captured image. See Mozilla’s Take screenshots in Firefox article for the current explanation.

Is there a documented maximum page length?

The cited evidence does not establish a current general maximum. A historical support discussion reported cutoffs on very long pages, but it should not be treated as a current limit.

Can I use the same full-page steps on mobile?

Mozilla’s support material covers screenshot creation across devices, but the evidence here does not establish identical full-page behavior on desktop, Android and iOS. Follow the instructions shown for your Firefox version and platform.

Can I capture only one part of a page?

Yes. Firefox Screenshots offers an automatically highlighted page part and a manually selected region, in addition to visible and full-page capture.
