How to Use FireShot to Capture a Webpage That Requires Scrolling
Use FireShot’s entire-page capture to include content below the viewport. Learn how to handle selections, nested scroll areas, and failed captures.
To capture content below the visible browser window with FireShot, open the page, choose Capture entire Page, and check the result for missing sections. Capture visible Area only saves what is currently on screen. FireShot’s documented toolbar, menu, or context-menu entry points can open these capture options. FireShot’s usage guide
1. Capture the whole page with FireShot
- Open the webpage you want to capture.
- Wait for the content you need to appear. If the page loads content as you scroll, scroll through the relevant areas first.
- Open FireShot from its browser toolbar button. If that button is unavailable, check the browser menu or the page’s context menu for a FireShot command.
- Choose Capture entire Page (or the equivalent entire-webpage option). Avoid Capture visible Area when you need content outside the current viewport.
- Review the capture, especially the bottom of the page and any interactive or embedded content. If FireShot opens its editor, use an available save or export action in your installed edition.
FireShot’s default capture action may open the result in its editor. Available export options depend on the installed edition; check the controls in your version rather than assuming a particular file format.
2. Choose the right capture scope
| Mode | What it captures | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Capture visible Area | The part of the page currently visible in the browser viewport. | You need a quick image of the current screen. |
| Capture entire Page | The main webpage, including content below the viewport. | You need a long page from top to bottom. |
| Selection | A region you choose on the page; FireShot’s selection guidance describes automatic scrolling when a selection reaches a page boundary. | You need one section rather than the full document. |
| Select a scrollable element | A particular scrollable region, where supported by the selection workflow. | The content is inside a panel or other nested scroll container. |
FireShot documents the whole-page and visible-area modes in its usage guide and describes selecting page snippets and scrollable elements in its selection-mode guide.
3. Handle lazy-loaded and embedded content
Content that appears as you scroll
Some pages load images or sections only as they approach the viewport. Scroll through the page before capturing so those sections have a chance to load. Then run the entire-page capture and inspect the output. A capture tool cannot include content the page never loaded.
Nested vertical scroll areas
A panel with its own scrollbar is separate from the main document scroll. The entire-page command may capture the panel as it appears in the page without revealing all of its internal content. If the missing material matters, try FireShot’s selection workflow for the scrollable element, or capture the panel in multiple positions and assemble the results.
Horizontally scrolling tables
Whole-page capture does not guarantee that every off-screen column in an embedded horizontal scroller will appear. FireShot’s support forum has a user report describing omitted columns in this situation; treat it as an edge case to check, not a general guarantee about every page. FireShot support report about a horizontally scrolling table
For a table, move its horizontal scrollbar through the needed columns and capture each view, or use a selection method that targets the scrollable element if it works for that page. Verify that labels and values remain aligned before sharing the result.
4. Check the capture before sharing
- Confirm that the screenshot starts at the top and reaches the intended bottom.
- Look for blank areas where images or deferred content should appear.
- Check embedded panels and horizontal tables separately from the main page.
- Make sure sticky headers, overlays, or dialogs did not obscure information you need.
- For a selected region, verify that its boundaries include all relevant content.
- Save or export using an option shown by your installed FireShot edition.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot ends at the current viewport. | You chose visible-area capture instead of the whole-page command. | Run FireShot again and choose Capture entire Page. |
| Images or sections are blank or missing. | The page loads content on scroll or had not finished loading. | Scroll through the page, wait for content to appear, then capture again. |
| Some content inside a panel is missing. | The panel has its own scroll position, separate from the webpage. | Try selecting the scrollable element, or capture the panel at multiple positions. |
| Right-side columns of a table are absent. | The table scrolls horizontally within its own container. | Move the table’s horizontal scrollbar and capture additional views; inspect the combined result. |
| The toolbar button is not visible. | The extension button may not be shown in the toolbar. | Look in the browser’s extension controls, menu, or page context menu for a FireShot entry point supported by your setup. |
| You cannot find the expected save format. | Export options can differ by installed edition. | Use the save or export choices actually shown in the FireShot editor or check the documentation for your edition. |
6. Or skip the browser setup
If you need a screenshot in a script or service, ScreenshotNeo captures a URL through one GET request and can return an image or PDF. Its API can capture full pages, load lazy images, target an element, wait for a selector or network idle, and configure a viewport. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

7. Performance and reliability notes
Very long pages and pages with many large images take more work to render and inspect. Let the page settle before capturing, and check the output rather than assuming every dynamic section loaded. For nested scrolling, the main document and the embedded region have separate positions, so one whole-page capture may not show the complete contents of both.
FireShot’s reviewed instructions explain the capture modes and selection workflow, but do not establish edition-specific export formats or guarantee how every dynamic page or nested scroller will render. Confirm the result in your installed version.
Frequently asked questions
Does FireShot scroll the page for me?
Use its entire-page capture command to capture content beyond the viewport. For selection mode, FireShot describes scrolling automatically when the selection reaches a page boundary.
Should I choose visible-area or entire-page capture?
Choose visible area for the current screen and entire page for content extending below it.
Will an entire-page capture include every column in a scrolling table?
Not necessarily. Check horizontal scrollers separately and capture additional views if needed.
Can I capture just one section?
Use FireShot’s selection mode and inspect the resulting boundaries and any scrollable content.
