How to Set FireShot to Save Full-Page Screenshots as PNG

Capture an entire webpage with FireShot and save it as a PNG. Follow the steps, avoid common capture issues, or use a screenshot API instead.

To save a full-page screenshot as a PNG in FireShot, choose its full-page capture action, then save the capture and select PNG as the document type. In FireShot’s guide, the full-page action is called “Capture entire Page and…”; it includes content below the visible screen. Do not choose “Capture visible Area and…” if you need the whole page.

Save a full-page screenshot as PNG in FireShot

  1. Open the webpage in a browser where FireShot is installed. Let the page finish loading as much of its content as possible.
  2. Open FireShot from the browser toolbar. Depending on the browser and extension version, click the main button, its adjacent arrow, the extension’s menu, or right-click the page to find capture actions.
  3. Choose Capture entire Page and… (or the equivalent full-page action). This captures content beyond the current viewport. A visible-area capture only includes what is currently on screen.
  4. Choose the save action. In the save dialog, set the document type to PNG.
  5. Choose a destination and save. If FireShot asks where to save each time, select a folder; its guide also describes configuring a default destination.
  6. Open the resulting file and check that the screenshot reaches the intended end of the page and that important content is legible.

FireShot’s official guide documents the full-page action and selecting the document type in the save dialog. Its current Chrome Web Store listing also describes full-page capture and PNG output. Menu labels can vary by browser build, and the guide’s interface documentation is older, so look for the action by purpose if the exact wording differs. Choose the right capture scope and file type

Choice What it captures or produces Use it when
Entire page The page beyond the visible browser viewport You need one image covering the full page length
Visible area Only the content currently shown on screen You need a quick image of the current viewport
Selected area A region you select on the page You only need one section or component
PNG A raster image format supported by FireShot You want a shareable image of the page
PDF A document output option listed by FireShot You need a document rather than an image

For the requested result, pair entire-page capture with PNG. The capture scope and output format are separate choices: selecting PNG does not make a visible-area capture include the rest of the page.

Dynamic pages and incomplete captures

Full-page capture is straightforward on ordinary, fully loaded pages. It can be less predictable when content appears only after scrolling, when a page uses infinite scrolling, or when browser or site restrictions interfere with an extension’s capture. FireShot’s reviewed documentation does not establish one setting that fixes all such cases.

  • Lazy-loaded images or sections: Scroll through the page first, if practical, to trigger content loading, then try the capture again.
  • Infinite scroll: The page may keep adding content as you scroll, so there may be no stable end to capture. Load the portion you need and check the result carefully.
  • Sticky headers or overlays: These may appear in the captured result depending on the page and capture behavior. Review the PNG and consider whether the overlay obscures the content you need.
  • Very long pages: Large captures can take longer and produce large image files. Capture only the content you need if a full-page image is unwieldy.

Or skip the browser setup

For repeatable captures from a script or service, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its capture options include full-page screenshots with lazy images loaded.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and formats. To save a PNG, request PNG output using the documented format parameter. The example above uses the supplied default example call and saves its response as shot.webp.

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each removal step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to try
The screenshot only shows the visible screen The visible-area action was selected Repeat the capture using the full-page or “Capture entire Page and…” action.
The file is not a PNG A different document type was selected or the save dialog used a previous choice Open the save dialog and explicitly select PNG before saving.
There is no save dialog The selected FireShot action may use another output flow or a configured destination Check the action you selected and FireShot’s save destination preferences; use the save action that opens the document-type choice.
The bottom of the page is missing The page may load content dynamically, use infinite scroll, or have hit an extension or browser limitation Scroll to load the needed content, wait for it to settle, then recapture. For infinite scroll, capture a stable section and verify coverage.
Some images or sections are blank Those elements may not have loaded before capture Wait for page loading or scroll through the relevant region before capturing. Results depend on the site and browser.
Menu labels do not match these steps FireShot’s manual is older and browser interfaces vary Look for the action that captures the entire page, rather than relying only on the exact label.

Performance, reliability, and cost

A full-page PNG includes more pixels than a viewport screenshot, so it can take longer to capture and use more storage. Keep the browser tab open until FireShot finishes and inspect unusually long pages for missing or repeated sections. Dynamic content makes the output dependent on what the page has loaded at capture time.

FireShot offers free and Pro versions, but the sources reviewed do not establish that this full-page PNG workflow always requires Pro. Check the options available in your installed browser build before upgrading. The Chrome Web Store listing is version-specific, and its labels and availability may differ from other browsers.

FAQ

Does full-page capture include content below the fold?

Yes. FireShot’s “Capture entire Page and…” action is intended to include page areas beyond the visible screen.

Does saving as PNG require FireShot Pro?

The reviewed official sources do not confirm that this workflow always requires Pro. Availability can depend on the installed browser build, so check the save and capture options in your version.

Can I save the result as a PDF instead?

FireShot lists PDF as an output option. Choose the PDF save workflow if you need a document rather than a PNG image.
