How to Make a Scrolling Website Screenshot PDF with FireShot
Capture a whole webpage with FireShot and save it as a PDF. Learn which capture mode to choose, how to handle scrollable panels, and what to check in the result.
To make a scrolling screenshot PDF with FireShot, open the webpage, open FireShot from the browser toolbar, main menu, or right-click menu, choose Capture entire Page, then save the capture as a PDF. Choose the entire-page mode when you need content below the visible browser window; Capture visible Area only captures what is currently on screen.
1. Capture the whole webpage with FireShot
- Open the webpage you want to save. If it loads content as you scroll, wait for the content you need to appear before capturing. Dynamic pages may behave differently, and the FireShot documentation does not promise that every site will capture identically.
- Open FireShot. You can use its toolbar button, main menu, or the page’s context menu. The FireShot guide says the toolbar button’s default action is Capture entire webpage and Edit.
- Choose Capture entire Page. FireShot also offers Capture visible Area; use that only when you want the current viewport. A selected-area option is useful when you want only a particular portion of the page.
- When the capture opens, choose the option to save it to disk and select PDF as the format.
- Open the saved PDF and check the top, bottom, and page breaks. Confirm that the off-screen content you wanted is present and that the result is readable for its intended use.
FireShot documents PDF as a save format. Its Chrome listing describes PDF output with links in the basic extension, while enhanced PDF options such as direct links and text and single-page or split-page output are listed as upgrade features. Available labels and options can vary by browser and release.
2. Choose the right capture mode
| Mode | What it captures | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Capture visible Area | The part of the page currently visible in the browser window | You need a quick record of what is on screen |
| Selected area | A portion you choose on the page | You need a specific section rather than the whole document |
| Capture entire Page | The page, including areas below the current viewport | You need a scrolling or full-page screenshot saved as a PDF |
A screenshot saved as PDF is a visual capture of the webpage. It is different from printing a page into a document that reflows its content. For a long page, inspect the PDF to make sure the page breaks and scale suit your purpose. Enhanced PDF controls, including single-page or split-page output, are presented as upgrade features in FireShot’s Chrome listing.
3. Capture a scrollable panel inside a page
Some pages have an independently scrollable area, such as a chat, dashboard, or list. That area is separate from the browser’s main page scroll. FireShot describes a separate selection mode for capturing a scrollable container and lists it as a Pro capability. The Chrome listing also places capture of specific scrolling elements among its upgrade features.
- Open the FireShot capture options and look for the scrollable-container or scrolling-element selection mode.
- Select the panel itself, rather than the whole webpage.
- Save the resulting capture as PDF if that option is available in your installed version.
If your version does not show this mode, check the feature list for your browser and release. A regular entire-page capture may capture the outer webpage without including all of the panel’s internal scroll content.
4. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The PDF contains only what was visible on screen | The visible-area mode was selected | Repeat the capture with Capture entire Page. |
| The bottom of the page is missing | The capture mode did not include off-screen content, or the page had not loaded the content yet | Confirm you chose the entire-page command. On pages that load content as you scroll, allow the needed content to appear before capturing, then inspect the result. |
| A chat or dashboard panel is cut off | The panel scrolls independently of the webpage | Use FireShot’s scrollable-container selection mode if it is available; the vendor lists this capability as Pro. |
| You cannot find a PDF or layout option | The option may depend on browser, release, or upgrade level | Check the feature list for the installed browser version. FireShot’s listings distinguish basic PDF output from enhanced PDF controls. |
| The result has awkward page breaks or is hard to read | A long visual capture may not fit the intended paper layout | Open the PDF and review the breaks and scale. If your version provides enhanced PDF controls, choose a single-page or split-page layout suited to how the PDF will be read. |
5. Browser version and privacy notes
FireShot’s browser listings do not necessarily describe the same release. The research dossier recorded Chrome version 2.1.4.18, updated May 24, 2026, and Firefox version 1.12.18, last updated June 5, 2023; the Firefox listing points to a newer v2 download on the vendor site. Check the listing for the browser you use before relying on a particular menu label or feature.
The Firefox listing declares broad website-data permissions. FireShot’s vendor and store privacy copy says captures are processed or stored locally. Those are publisher statements, not an independent security guarantee; review the permissions and privacy information for the version you install.
6. Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable screenshots from code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. It can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF from one GET request. Its capture options include full-page output, PDF settings, waiting for a selector or network idle, and selecting an element. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

Cookie and consent banners are accepted before capture, and more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server gives AI agents tools for screenshots, page information, and PDF capture. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.
