How to Take a Full-Page Website Screenshot in Firefox on Ubuntu in India

Use Firefox’s built-in “Save full page” tool to capture an entire webpage on Ubuntu, then download or copy the screenshot.

To take a full-page screenshot in Firefox on Ubuntu, open the webpage, press Ctrl+Shift+S (or right-click an empty area and choose Take Screenshot), select Save full page, then choose Download. Firefox saves the image to its configured default download folder. No extension is needed for this ordinary workflow. Mozilla documents these controls and options.

1. Capture the entire webpage in Firefox

  1. Open the page you want to capture in Firefox.
  2. Open the screenshot controls by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S on Linux, or right-clicking an empty part of the page and choosing Take Screenshot.
  3. Select Save full page. This captures the page beyond the visible viewport. Choose Save visible instead if you only need what is currently on screen.
  4. Choose Download to save the screenshot as an image, or Copy to put it on the clipboard.
  5. If the page has dynamic or embedded content, open the saved image and check that the content you need appears correctly.

The downloaded file goes to Firefox’s default download location. The exact folder depends on your Firefox settings; check the Downloads setting if you cannot find it. Ubuntu’s desktop screenshot tool has a different default location, Pictures/Screenshots in your home folder, and captures the screen or a selected area rather than the entire webpage.

2. Use Firefox Developer Tools as an alternative

Firefox Developer Tools include a full-page screenshot control. To use it, open Developer Tools, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons in Developer Tools settings, then select the screenshot icon. Firefox Source Docs also document a --fullpage option for the screenshot command. See the Firefox Source Docs for Developer Tools documentation.

For most users, the page’s Take Screenshot control is the simpler route. The Developer Tools route is useful when you specifically want the toolbox control or command-line option.

3. Choose the right capture method

What you need Use What it captures
The whole webpage, including content below the viewport Firefox Save full page A full-page image of the webpage
Only the part currently visible in Firefox Firefox Save visible The current browser view
The desktop or a region of the display Ubuntu’s screenshot overlay The screen or selected area, not the entire webpage

Ubuntu’s built-in screenshot overlay is appropriate for a visible screen capture. For a tall page that extends below the viewport, use Firefox’s full-page option. Ubuntu Help explains its desktop screenshot controls.

4. Troubleshoot common problems

Problem Likely cause What to do
The image shows only the visible screen Save visible was selected, or the Ubuntu desktop screenshot tool was used. Use Firefox’s Take Screenshot controls and select Save full page.
You cannot find the downloaded image Firefox saves to its configured default download folder, which may differ from Ubuntu’s screenshot folder. Check Firefox’s download location and recent downloads. Ubuntu desktop captures default to Pictures/Screenshots.
Some images or embedded content are missing The page may load content dynamically or use embedded content that does not appear as expected in a capture. Wait for the page to finish loading, capture again, and inspect the saved image. The documented workflow does not guarantee every page implementation will render completely.
The shortcut does not open screenshot controls The shortcut may have been intercepted or may not be convenient in the current setup. Right-click an empty area of the page and select Take Screenshot.
You need a full page but only have a desktop capture Ubuntu captures the display or a selected screen region, not the webpage’s off-screen content. Return to Firefox and use Save full page, or enable the full-page screenshot button in Developer Tools.

5. Practical limits and file handling

A full-page capture is one image that extends beyond the current viewport. Page behavior can affect what appears: dynamic content, embedded documents, and unusual scrolling layouts may not render completely. Inspect the result before sharing or using it as a record.

Very long pages produce tall image files. If you only need one section, a visible capture may be easier to view and share. If the purpose is to preserve a page for reading or printing, a PDF may be more suitable than a tall image.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. A single request captures a URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a WebP screenshot of a page, use this cURL command; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Equivalent Python and Node.js requests:

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await import('node:fs/promises').then(({ writeFile }) =>
  writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()))
);

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the target URL as needed. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each of these cleanup steps can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf.

The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is available on every plan. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month with no card.
