How to Capture a Full Webpage When Browser Zoom Is Not 100 Percent

Capture a full webpage at your preferred browser zoom with Firefox or Edge, then check the saved image for clipping or shifted content.

You do not have to reset browser page zoom to 100 percent before taking a full-page screenshot. Use the browser’s full-page capture command at the zoom that gives you the layout you want, then inspect the saved image for clipped or shifted content. Output dimensions and layout can vary by browser and capture method.

1. Know which zoom and capture you are changing

Browser page zoom changes the size of rendered page content. A full-page screenshot command captures content beyond the visible viewport; a normal screenshot captures only what is currently visible. In Edge, DevTools zoom is separate from the rendered page zoom. In Firefox’s developer screenshot command, the --dpr option controls output scale separately from page zoom.

Keep the page zoom you want, choose a full-page capture, and check the result. The browser documentation does not promise identical image dimensions or flawless rendering at every zoom level, and does not require resetting zoom to 100 percent.

2. Capture the full page in Firefox

Use the built-in screenshot menu

  1. Open the page and set browser zoom to the level you want.
  2. Right-click an empty area of the page, or press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
  3. Choose Take Screenshot.
  4. Choose Save full page, not Save visible.
  5. Save the image, then inspect the top, bottom, and any content that loads while scrolling.

Mozilla documents both full-page and visible-area choices in its Firefox screenshot instructions.

Use Firefox Developer Tools

Firefox Developer Tools can capture the entire page. If its screenshot button is not visible, open DevTools Settings and enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons. The screenshot command also supports --fullpage for content beyond the window. Its --dpr option adjusts device-pixel ratio: values above 1 produce zoomed-in images and values below 1 produce zoomed-out images. Treat this as output scaling, not as a reason to alter browser page zoom. See Mozilla’s Developer Tools screenshot documentation for the command details.

3. Capture the full page in Microsoft Edge

  1. Open the page and set its zoom to the desired level.
  2. Open DevTools with F12, or right-click the page and choose Inspect.
  3. Open Device Emulation if needed.
  4. In the Device Emulation pane, open More options and choose Capture a full size screenshot.
  5. Inspect the saved image, especially content near the bottom and elements that load dynamically.

Edge documents the full-size screenshot option in its Device Emulation guide. Its DevTools zoom and rendered page zoom are independent controls; changing one does not reset the other. See the Edge DevTools overview.

4. Check the output

  • Confirm the image includes content below the initial viewport. A visible-area screenshot is not a full-page capture.
  • Look at the top and bottom edges for missing or cut-off content.
  • Check fixed headers, menus, and other elements that may overlap content in a tall capture.
  • If images or sections appear only after scrolling, allow them to load and capture again if needed.
  • If the image scale is wrong in Firefox Developer Tools, adjust --dpr separately from page zoom.

These checks are practical quality control. Browser instructions do not guarantee that every interactive or dynamically loaded page will render perfectly in a full-page image.

5. Troubleshooting

What happened Likely cause What to do
The saved image shows only the visible screen. A visible-area or ordinary viewport screenshot was selected. In Firefox choose Save full page; in Edge choose Capture a full size screenshot.
The page looks too large or too small in the image. Output scale may differ from the browser’s page zoom. In Firefox DevTools, --dpr changes output scale. Keep the desired page zoom and adjust the capture scale control when available. Check the result rather than assuming the two controls are equivalent.
The page layout changed after opening DevTools. Page zoom and DevTools zoom are independent in Edge, and the page may reflow at its current rendered zoom. Set the page zoom itself to the desired value, then take the full-size screenshot.
Images or sections are missing lower down. Content may load as the page scrolls or may be interactive. Scroll through the page to let content load, then capture again and inspect the result.
The screenshot button is missing in Firefox DevTools. The screenshot toolbox button may not be enabled. In DevTools Settings, enable Take a screenshot of the entire page under Available Toolbox Buttons.

6. Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo captures a webpage through one API request. Its capture options include full-page screenshots with lazy images loaded, and PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF output. For details, see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents use take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

7. Frequently asked questions

Do I have to set zoom back to 100 percent?

No. The documented Firefox and Edge full-page workflows do not require it. Capture at your preferred page zoom and inspect the image.

Does full-page mean the same thing as full-size?

In these instructions, both refer to capturing page content outside the currently visible viewport: Firefox calls the option Save full page, while Edge calls it Capture a full size screenshot.

Is Firefox’s --dpr the same as browser zoom?

No. Mozilla describes --dpr as a device-pixel-ratio setting that changes screenshot scale. Browser page zoom changes the rendered page size.

Are the steps identical in Chrome and Safari?

This guide’s verified procedures cover Firefox and Edge. Consult current browser-specific help for Chrome or Safari menu names and commands.
