How to Take a Full-Page Screenshot of a Web App in Microsoft Edge

Capture an entire web app in Edge with the built-in Screenshot tool. Follow the steps, check dynamic content, and learn when a screenshot API helps.

To capture a full-page screenshot in Microsoft Edge: open the web app, press Ctrl+Shift+S, choose Capture full page, review the result, and save it. Edge captures content beyond the visible screen, so you do not need to scroll and stitch screenshots manually.

Microsoft now calls the feature Screenshot; an older walkthrough calls it Web capture. The policy documentation confirms the rename. Menu wording can vary by Edge version, so look for Screenshot or Web capture in your browser.

Steps to capture a full page

  1. Open the web app in Edge and navigate to the page you want to capture. Wait for the content you need to appear.
  2. Press Ctrl+Shift+S. Alternatively, open Settings and more (the three-dot menu) and choose Screenshot or Web capture. You may also find Screenshot in the page context menu.
  3. Select Capture full page. Edge captures beyond the current viewport without requiring you to scroll through the page yourself.
  4. Review the resulting image for missing sections or layout artifacts, then save it. The tool also lets you copy the capture.

For a smaller part of the page, choose Capture area and select the region. Depending on the version and workflow, you can copy the capture or open it with Markup capture to review and annotate it.

What to check in a web app capture

Full-page capture is designed for content beyond the screen, including long or moving webpages. Web apps can behave differently from static pages, though. Microsoft’s documentation does not specify how every app handles lazy-loaded content, internal scrolling regions, animations, sign-in state, or complex layouts.

  • Lazy-loaded sections: Some apps load images or data only as a visitor scrolls. Check the saved image to confirm the content appeared.
  • Nested scroll areas: A table, panel, or feed may scroll inside the page instead of extending the page itself. Review those areas separately if their contents are important.
  • Moving content: A changing chart, animation, or live feed may look different in the capture than it did moments earlier.
  • Sign-in and permissions: Make sure Edge is showing the intended account and access state before capturing.
  • Long pages: Inspect the top, middle, and bottom of the saved image for missing content or unexpected layout changes.

For a dynamic app, treat the saved image as the result to verify rather than assuming it exactly represents every state seen while browsing.

Which Edge capture option should you use?

Goal Choose What it captures
Document the entire web page Capture full page Page content beyond the visible screen
Save one portion of a page Capture area A selected region
Capture something visible on your desktop Windows Snipping Tool A freeform, rectangular, window, or full-screen screen capture
Save a page image into a notebook OneNote Web Clipper A full page or selected region saved to OneNote

For the specific task of capturing a whole webpage in Edge, use its built-in Screenshot tool. Windows Snipping Tool is a screen-capture workflow; Microsoft’s support documentation does not describe it as a whole-webpage capture tool. OneNote Web Clipper is useful when the destination should be a notebook.

When a browser screenshot API is a better fit

Edge is convenient for an occasional manual capture. A screenshot API is useful when you need repeatable captures from scripts, a batch of URLs, a server workflow, or an AI agent. It can also return image or PDF files without requiring you to operate the browser interface for each page.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. This one GET request returns a screenshot of the target page; see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and setup.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Cookie and consent banners are accepted before capture, and more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets can be removed; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. ScreenshotNeo also has an MCP server with take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots.

Troubleshooting

Screenshot or Web capture is missing

Try the keyboard shortcut, then check the Settings and more menu and the page context menu. Edge versions may use different labels. If this is a managed work or school browser, its administrator may control whether the command is available; ask them to check the WebCaptureEnabled policy if the tool is absent.

The full-page image is missing content

Wait for the page to finish loading and review the saved result. Dynamic apps may defer content until scrolling, render content inside nested scroll areas, or change while the capture is being made. Capture a specific area separately when content inside a panel is not part of the page’s full-page layout.

The result looks different from the live app

Confirm the correct account and page state, then inspect the saved image for changes caused by animation, live data, or complex layout. The available Microsoft guidance does not guarantee identical results for every dynamic app.

I need to annotate the capture

Use the available Markup capture workflow after choosing a capture, or copy the result into the application where you plan to annotate it.

Performance, reliability, and cost

For a one-off capture, Edge’s built-in tool avoids setting up a separate screenshot service. Let the page load before capturing and review the result, especially for dynamic applications. Microsoft describes full-page capture as working beyond the screen, but the cited feature guidance does not promise identical handling for every application pattern.

An API adds a service and API key to your workflow, but supports programmatic capture and configurable options. With ScreenshotNeo, the free plan is 1,000 shots per month without a card. Paid plans are Starter $5 for 3,000; Growth $15 for 15,000; Pro $39 for 60,000; Scale $99 for 250,000; and Business $249 for 1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is on every plan. Only clean shots are billed; bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are free.

FAQ

Do I need to install an extension to capture a full webpage in Edge?

No. Edge includes a built-in full-page capture workflow.

Is Screenshot the same feature as Web capture?

Yes. Microsoft’s policy documentation describes Screenshot as the feature previously named Web Capture.

Can I capture just part of the page?

Yes. Choose Capture area and select the region you need.

Does the keyboard shortcut work on every computer?

Ctrl+Shift+S is Microsoft’s documented shortcut. A managed browser policy or version-specific interface may affect access to the command.
