How to Capture a Full-Page Screenshot of a Webpage on an iPad
Capture an entire Safari webpage on iPad, then save it as an image in Photos or a PDF in Files.
To capture a full webpage on an iPad, take a screenshot, tap its preview, choose Full Page, then tap Done. Save the result to Photos as an image or to Files as a PDF.
Apple describes this feature for content longer than the screen, including an entire webpage in Safari. The instructions below follow Apple’s documented Safari workflow; behavior may vary in other apps.
1. Take a screenshot
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Quickly press and release the buttons for your iPad model:
- Without a Home button: press the top button and either volume button at the same time.
- With a Home button: press the top button and the Home button at the same time.
- Tap the screenshot preview that appears in the lower-left corner.
The button press should be a quick press and release. Holding the buttons may trigger a different device action.
2. Choose Full Page and inspect the capture
- In the screenshot editor, tap Full Page.
- Drag the preview on the right to inspect content farther down the page.
- Optionally tap the crop control and adjust its handles to trim the capture.
- Tap Done.
The Full Page choice is in the screenshot preview after capture. If you do not see it, check the troubleshooting section below.
3. Save as an image or PDF
| Save option | Where it goes | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Save to Photos | Photos | You want an image to view or share like other pictures. |
| Save PDF to Files | A location you choose in Files | You want a document to file, share, or mark up. |
After tapping Done, choose the format you need and, for a PDF, select the destination in Files.
4. Other ways to start a screenshot
The hardware-button method is not the only option. Apple also documents these alternatives for initiating a screenshot:
- Apple Pencil: swipe diagonally upward from either bottom corner.
- AssistiveTouch or Siri: use either available screenshot control.
Apple Pencil is optional. You can use the button combination, AssistiveTouch, or Siri instead.
5. Save a Safari webpage as a marked-up PDF
If you want to annotate a webpage and save it as a PDF, Safari has a separate Share and Markup route:
- Open the webpage and tap Share.
- Tap More, then Markup.
- Add annotations if needed, then tap Done.
- Choose Save File To, enter a filename, and tap Save.
Use the Full Page screenshot flow when you want the documented full-page capture, with the choice to save to Photos or save a PDF to Files. Use the Markup route when annotation is part of the task.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot preview disappears. | The preview was not opened before it went away. | Take another screenshot and tap the lower-left preview promptly. |
| I cannot find Full Page. | You may not be in the screenshot editor, or the current app or content may not offer the documented Safari webpage flow. | Open a webpage in Safari, take a new screenshot, and tap its preview. Apple documents Full Page for content extending beyond the screen, such as an entire Safari webpage. |
| The screenshot only shows the visible screen. | The capture was taken, but Full Page was not selected in the preview. | Take another screenshot, open its preview, and choose Full Page before tapping Done. |
| The buttons do not take a screenshot. | The button combination may not match the iPad hardware, or the buttons were held instead of quickly pressed and released. | Use the top button plus either volume button on a model without a Home button, or the top button plus Home button on a model with one. Alternatively, use Apple Pencil, AssistiveTouch, or Siri. |
| I expected an image but got a PDF, or the reverse. | The save destination determines the output format. | Choose Save to Photos for an image or Save PDF to Files for a PDF. |
| The PDF is hard to find. | A destination in Files was selected during saving. | Check the Files location you chose when saving. |
7. Or skip the browser setup
If you need a webpage screenshot from code, ScreenshotNeo provides a screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request returns an image or PDF. See the API documentation.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
With ScreenshotNeo, cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

8. Frequently asked questions
Does a full-page screenshot include content below the fold?
Yes. The Full Page option captures content extending beyond the screen; Apple gives an entire Safari webpage as its example.
Can I save the capture as both an image and a PDF?
Apple lists Save to Photos for an image and Save PDF to Files for a PDF. Choose the format you need when saving.
Do I need Apple Pencil?
No. It is one alternate way to start a screenshot. The hardware buttons, AssistiveTouch, and Siri are other options.
Can I use the same steps in every browser?
Apple’s guidance describes the iPad screenshot controls and gives Safari as its webpage example. It does not establish identical Full Page behavior in every third-party browser.
