To capture an entire webpage in Safari on iPad, take a screenshot, open its thumbnail, select Full Page, then save it as an image to Photos or as a PDF to Files. The button combination depends on whether your iPad has a Home button.

Take a full-page screenshot in Safari

  1. Open the webpage in Safari and wait for the parts you want to include to load.
  2. Take a screenshot. On an iPad without a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together. On an iPad with a Home button, quickly press and release the top button and Home button together.
  3. Tap the screenshot thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner. This opens the screenshot editor.
  4. Tap Full Page at the top of the editor. The preview shows the page beyond the screen; drag the preview to inspect other parts and crop the capture if needed.
  5. Choose how to save it: use the save controls and select Save to Photos for an image, or select Save PDF to Files and choose a folder for a PDF.

Apple documents Full Page capture for content longer than the iPad screen, including an entire webpage in Safari. The full-page option is selected in the editor after taking the initial screenshot. Apple’s iPad screenshot guide has the official steps.

Choose image or PDF

Save as Where it goes Choose it when
Image Photos You want an image file to view, share, or mark up as an image.
PDF Files You want a document that can be filed with other documents or shared as a PDF.

To find saved screenshots in Photos, open Collections, then Media Types, then Screenshots. A PDF saved through the screenshot editor is in the Files location you selected.

Other ways to start a screenshot

The button shortcut is not the only way to initiate a screenshot. On supported iPads, swipe diagonally upward from either bottom corner with Apple Pencil. AssistiveTouch and Siri are also alternatives. These options only start the screenshot; you still open its thumbnail and choose Full Page in the editor.

When to use Safari Markup instead

If your goal is an annotated webpage PDF, Safari has a separate Share and Markup workflow. Tap Share, choose More and then Markup, add annotations if wanted, tap Done, choose Save File To, name the file, and save it. This is distinct from selecting Full Page in the screenshot editor. See Apple’s guide to annotating and saving a webpage as a PDF.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need webpage captures from an app or script instead of taking one on an iPad, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A GET request takes a URL and returns an image or PDF. Here is the cURL example; replace the key with your API key and change the target URL if needed. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshooting

Full Page does not appear

Make sure you opened the screenshot thumbnail to enter the editor. The Full Page choice is there, after taking a screenshot. The documented workflow applies to content that extends beyond the screen, such as a webpage in Safari; if the option is missing, check that you captured the page in Safari and that your iPadOS interface is current.

The screenshot disappears before I can open it

Take another screenshot and tap the thumbnail promptly. If it is no longer visible, check Photos under Collections → Media Types → Screenshots for a saved screenshot, then repeat the capture to choose Full Page in the editor.

I cannot find the PDF

The Full Page PDF route saves to Files. Choose a location during save and look in that folder in Files; it will not appear as an image in Photos.

The buttons do not take a screenshot

Use the combination matching the device: top plus either volume button on iPads without a Home button, or top plus Home on iPads with a Home button. Press and release them quickly together. Apple Pencil, AssistiveTouch, or Siri can also initiate the screenshot where available.

Part of the page is missing

Wait for the content you need to load before capturing. In the Full Page preview, drag through the capture to inspect its length and use the crop controls if you need to adjust the saved area. Pages that load content only after scrolling may need to be scrolled through first so that content is present before the capture.
