How to capture a full webpage with Web Clipper on a Chromebook

Learn how to capture an entire scrollable webpage on a Chromebook with OneNote Web Clipper, and when the built-in screenshot tool is enough.

To capture an entire scrollable webpage on a Chromebook, this guide uses OneNote Web Clipper: open the page in Chrome, select the extension, choose Full Page, then select Clip. The capture is saved to OneNote as a screenshot image. The Chromebook’s built-in Screen Capture tool takes a full-screen, window, or partial screenshot; Google’s instructions do not describe it as a way to capture content below the visible screen in one scrolling image. Google’s Chromebook screenshot instructions and Microsoft’s OneNote Web Clipper guide document these workflows.

What “full webpage” means

A normal Chromebook screenshot records what is on the screen, or a selected screen area. A full-page clip captures the webpage beyond the current viewport, including content lower down the page. In OneNote Web Clipper, Full Page saves the current webpage as a screenshot image. Region is the choice for capturing only a selected part of the page.

The instructions below specifically cover OneNote Web Clipper. “Web Clipper” can refer to other browser extensions, and their buttons, output formats, and destinations differ.

Capture a full webpage with OneNote Web Clipper

  1. Open Chrome on your Chromebook and navigate to the webpage you want to save. Wait for the page to finish loading and for any content you need to appear.
  2. Select the OneNote Web Clipper icon in Chrome’s toolbar. If it is not visible, open the extensions menu and look for it there.
  3. Sign in or approve the requested permissions if the extension prompts you.
  4. Choose Full Page. Choose Region instead if you only want a selected portion.
  5. If the clipper offers a Location menu, select the OneNote notebook section where you want the clip saved. Add an optional note if useful.
  6. Select Clip and wait for the extension to finish sending the capture to OneNote.
  7. Open OneNote and check the selected notebook section for the saved screenshot.

The destination matters: this flow saves the image to OneNote, rather than directly to the Chromebook’s Downloads folder. Microsoft documents the Full Page, Region, Location, and Clip steps in its OneNote Web Clipper instructions.

When the built-in Chromebook screenshot is enough

Use ChromeOS Screen Capture when you need a record of what is currently visible, a window, or a selected screen area. Google’s documented options are full screen, partial screen, and window; captures are saved to Downloads by default and automatically copied to the clipboard.

  1. Press the Chromebook’s screenshot key, if it has one, or open Screen Capture from Settings or the quick settings area.
  2. If your keyboard has no screenshot key, use Shift + Ctrl + Show windows.
  3. Select full-screen, partial-screen, or window capture, then take the screenshot.

This is a screen capture, not a documented scrolling-page capture. If the webpage extends below the screen and you need it all in a single image, use a full-page clipper instead. See Google’s Chromebook screenshot help.

If OneNote Web Clipper is unavailable

Chrome extension availability can depend on the device and administrator policy. On a managed school or work Chromebook, an administrator may restrict installing or running extensions. Check the Chrome Web Store listing and your organization’s policy before relying on an extension; availability and extension behavior can change.

A third-party Chrome extension may offer full-page capture and image or PDF export. Review its current listing, permissions, and availability before installing it. Treat privacy or local-processing statements in a listing as claims from its developer, not independently verified facts.

Evernote also describes full-page Web Clipper capture, but its help page says, “Evernote no longer supports Chromebooks.” That compatibility caveat makes it a poor default recommendation for Chromebook users. See Evernote’s operating system requirements.

Choose the right capture method

Method Capture scope Output and destination Best fit
ChromeOS Screen Capture Visible screen, window, or selected area Screenshot in Downloads; copied to clipboard A screen-level record or a visible portion of a page
OneNote Web Clipper, Full Page Current webpage as a full-page screenshot image Saved to the selected OneNote location A webpage capture you want to keep in OneNote
OneNote Web Clipper, Region Selected part of the page Saved to OneNote A particular page area rather than the full page
Another full-page extension Depends on the extension May offer image or PDF export; check its listing When OneNote is unavailable or another export destination is needed

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a screenshot file from a script or service, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a screenshot as PNG, JPEG, or WebP, or a PDF. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

Cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing status. An MCP server lets AI agents use screenshot tools. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

Troubleshooting

The OneNote clipper icon is missing

Look in Chrome’s extensions menu. If OneNote Web Clipper is not installed or does not appear as available, check the current extension listing and whether your Chromebook administrator allows it. Managed devices can limit extension installation or use.

The clipper asks you to sign in or grant access

Complete the sign-in or permission prompt before clipping. If your organization manages the account or device, its policy may affect access.

The clip went to the wrong notebook section

Before selecting Clip, check the Location menu and choose the intended OneNote section. Afterward, check that destination in OneNote.

The capture misses content or looks incomplete

Wait for the page and the specific content you need to load before starting the clip. Pages that populate content while scrolling or after a delay may not present all content immediately. If the result remains incomplete, try again after the page settles or use a different available full-page capture method.

I only captured what was visible on screen

You likely used ChromeOS Screen Capture. It documents full-screen, partial, and window modes, not a scrolling full-page mode. Use OneNote Web Clipper’s Full Page option for the full webpage image.

The extension is blocked on a school Chromebook

Check with the administrator or use a permitted capture method. Do not assume an extension can be installed or run on a managed device.

Reliability and practical notes

  • Check the destination: OneNote Web Clipper sends the capture to OneNote. ChromeOS screenshots go to Downloads and the clipboard.
  • Confirm the scope: Full Page captures the webpage; Region captures a selected part. The built-in tool captures screen content.
  • Allow the page to settle: Content that loads late can affect what a capture contains. Wait for important content before clipping.
  • Account for managed-device rules: Extension installation and use may be restricted by an administrator.
  • No special hardware is needed: This task is handled by browser software. Research for this guide did not identify a physical product needed for full-page capture.

FAQ

Can a Chromebook take a screenshot of an entire webpage?

Use a full-page browser clipper for a single image of the scrollable page. ChromeOS’s documented screenshot modes capture the screen, a window, or a selected area.

Does OneNote Web Clipper save the page as editable text?

The documented Full Page option saves the current webpage as a screenshot image in OneNote.

Can I save the OneNote clip straight to Downloads?

The documented clipper workflow sends it to a OneNote location. ChromeOS Screen Capture saves its screenshots to Downloads by default.

Is Evernote Web Clipper a good Chromebook alternative?

Evernote describes full-page capture, but its support page says Evernote no longer supports Chromebooks. Check current compatibility before relying on it.
