How to Take a Full Website Screenshot on a Mac in India without an Extension
Mac’s built-in screenshot controls capture the visible screen, not a whole scrolling page. Here’s how to save a webpage as an image, Web Archive or PDF without an extension.
If you mean one tall image of an entire scrolling webpage, macOS’s built-in Screenshot controls do not document that capability: they capture the screen, a window or a selected area. Without an extension, you can capture what is visible, save the full page in Safari as a Web Archive, or print it to PDF. A Web Archive and PDF can include content beyond the visible screen, but neither is a single tall screenshot image.
Choose the output you need before you start:
- PNG image of what is on screen: use macOS Screenshot.
- Saved Safari page with graphics and links: use Web Archive.
- Printable or shareable document: print to PDF if the print dialog offers that destination.
- One tall raster image of the full page: the reviewed Apple instructions do not establish a built-in, extension-free method for this exact output.
1. Capture the visible screen with macOS Screenshot
Use this for the part of the page currently visible on your display. It does not scroll the webpage or include content below the viewport.
- Open the webpage and arrange the visible portion you want to capture.
- Press Shift-Command-5 to open Screenshot controls.
- Choose to capture the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion.
- Open Options if you want to choose a save location or set a timer, then click Capture.
Keyboard alternatives are Shift-Command-3 for the whole screen and Shift-Command-4 to select an area. Apple documents screenshots as PNG files. The capture represents the display, so other visible windows, menus or desktop areas may appear if they are inside the chosen region. See Apple’s Mac Screenshot controls and screenshot shortcuts and PNG output.
2. Save a complete page in Safari as a Web Archive
For an extension-free saved copy of a page, Safari’s Web Archive format is the built-in option described by Apple. It can retain page graphics, and links can work while their destination webpages remain available. This is an archive, not a screenshot image.
- Open the webpage in Safari.
- Choose File > Save As.
- In the format menu, choose Web Archive.
- Choose where to save it and save the file.
Do not choose Page Source if your goal is to retain the displayed page: that option saves HTML source code. Some webpages may prevent displayed items from being saved, so an archive may not reproduce every item. See Apple’s instructions for saving part or all of a webpage in Safari.
3. Print the webpage to PDF
A PDF is useful when you need a document to share, store or print. It may paginate the content and its appearance can differ from the live page. Printing is not a guarantee that dynamic content, backgrounds or every page element will appear.
- In Safari or Chrome, open the webpage and press Command-P.
- Review the print preview and available settings.
- If the destination list offers Save as PDF, select it.
- Save the resulting file.
Chrome’s print instructions describe choosing a destination and adjusting print settings; Safari documents Command-P as its print shortcut. Availability and labels can vary by browser and system configuration. See Google Chrome’s print instructions and Apple’s Safari shortcuts.
4. Which extension-free method should you use?
| Method | Output | Content below the screen | Useful when |
|---|---|---|---|
| macOS Screenshot | PNG image | No; captures the screen or selected region | You need a picture of the visible screen. |
| Safari Web Archive | Web Archive file | Intended to save a webpage, including graphics | You want a saved page copy with useful links. |
| Browser print | PDF, if offered | Can include printed page content across pages | You need a document to share or print. |
The archive depends on what the site permits Safari to save. A PDF’s pagination and styling depend on the page and print settings. If your requirement is specifically one continuous image of the entire page, these built-in workflows do not provide a documented answer for that format.
5. India and Mac version notes
These are ordinary macOS and browser workflows; the reviewed Apple documentation does not describe a special India-specific procedure. Apple’s support instructions are available on India support pages. Menu names, keyboard behavior and available print destinations may vary with macOS or browser versions, language and keyboard layout. If a shortcut does not work, use the corresponding menu command or Screenshot controls.
6. Troubleshooting
- Shift-Command-5 opens controls, but the result misses the lower page: the controls capture the screen, window or selected region. Use Safari Web Archive or print to PDF for whole-page retention.
- The saved Safari file contains source code rather than a page copy: check that you selected Web Archive, not Page Source.
- The Web Archive is missing graphics or other displayed items: some sites can prevent saving displayed items. The archive may therefore be incomplete.
- The PDF looks different from the website: print layout can paginate or restyle content. Review the preview and available print settings; a PDF is a document copy, not a pixel-perfect screenshot guarantee.
- A shortcut behaves differently on your Mac: keyboard shortcuts can vary by language and keyboard layout. Open the relevant menu and use its command instead.
- You cannot find “Save as PDF”: inspect the print dialog’s destination choices. The option is only usable when the dialog offers it.
7. Or skip the browser setup
If you need an actual webpage screenshot as an image or PDF, ScreenshotNeo takes a URL in one API request. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers, made by Yorker Media. Cookie and consent banners are accepted and removed, along with 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups and chat widgets, before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads and cache hits cost nothing, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status. AI agents can use its MCP server tools: take_screenshot, get_page_info and capture_pdf.
For example, save a screenshot of a webpage with cURL:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the target URL. Check the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options such as full-page capture, output format, viewport, element selection and PDF settings. ScreenshotNeo is available at screenshotneo.com. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

8. Frequently asked questions
Does Shift-Command-5 take a scrolling screenshot?
Apple’s documented controls capture the entire screen, a window or a selected portion. They do not document automatic scrolling capture of a webpage.
Is a Safari Web Archive an image?
No. It is a saved webpage format. Use Screenshot if you need a PNG of the visible screen.
Can I capture a full webpage without installing an extension?
You can save a full page as a Safari Web Archive or, where the print dialog allows it, a PDF. The reviewed built-in instructions do not establish a way to save it as one tall raster image.
Will the same shortcuts work on every Mac keyboard?
Shortcuts may vary with language and keyboard layout. Use the relevant menu command if a shortcut differs on your Mac.
