GoFullPage Screenshot Has Blank Sections: How to Fix It

Fix blank sections in GoFullPage captures by loading page content, checking capture size and iframe permissions, and spotting pages this method cannot capture.

If a GoFullPage screenshot has blank sections, first close pop-ups and information bars, scroll through the page once to trigger lazy-loaded content, and capture again. If gaps remain, check whether the page is extremely tall, whether the missing content is inside an iframe that needs permission, or whether the page uses PDF rendering or custom JavaScript scrolling. Those cases may not be fixable with a simple retry.

1. Try the quick fixes first

  1. Close overlays. Dismiss pop-ups, dialogs, cookie banners, and information bars that cover the page, then start a fresh capture.
  2. Scroll from top to bottom once. Some sites load images and sections only as they approach the viewport. Scrolling can trigger that loading before GoFullPage captures the page. Wait for visible content to finish loading, return to the top, and capture again.
  3. Check the result at the same page position. If the same section is still blank, note whether it is near the bottom, embedded from another site, or part of an unusually long page. That helps distinguish a loading issue from a capture limitation.

GoFullPage’s FAQ recommends closing pop-ups or information bars and scrolling the page’s length to load content before capture. Its Chrome Web Store listing also describes preparation for lazy-loaded content. These steps help with content that appears only after scrolling, but they do not guarantee every page will capture correctly.

2. Diagnose what is blank

What you see Likely reason Next step
Sections that load only after scrolling are blank Lazy content had not loaded when capture began Scroll the full page, wait for content, then capture again
The bottom or a large area is blank on a very long page The final image may be too large to generate reliably Capture a smaller region or shorten the page before capture
Only an embedded frame is missing The extension may need optional permission to access the iframe Accept the relevant prompt if you trust the extension and need that embedded content captured
A PDF document or custom-scrolling area is missing The page may not support GoFullPage’s scrolling capture method Use an alternate source or capture method, or contact GoFullPage support

3. Reduce the capture size for very tall pages

A long page can produce an image with too many pixels to generate successfully. GoFullPage’s FAQ says an oversized single image can break and appear as a blank white page. It can split some large captures into multiple images, but warns that captures requiring ten or more images may not complete. High pixel-density displays can contribute to the size.

  • Try capturing only the portion that contains the missing section, if a partial capture is sufficient.
  • If you control the page, temporarily shorten it by collapsing long lists, tables, or repeated content.
  • Consider whether high display pixel density is making the output especially large; avoid increasing browser zoom or capture scale while troubleshooting.
  • If the page consistently exceeds the extension’s practical capture size, save or capture it in smaller parts rather than repeatedly retrying the full page.

These are workarounds for output size, not settings that make an arbitrarily long page fit into one image. If the split output would require ten or more images, the FAQ says the capture may not complete.

4. Check iframe permissions

If the blank content is embedded in an iframe, GoFullPage may prompt for optional permission to access it. Its permissions explainer says this access is needed to scroll and capture content inside the frame. If permission is denied, the article says GoFullPage will not run on that page, though it still works on pages without iframes.

  1. Retry the capture and look for the extension’s permission prompt.
  2. Read the prompt and grant the iframe permission only if you trust the extension and need it to capture embedded content.
  3. Run the capture again after granting permission.

If there is no prompt, or the frame remains blank after permission is granted, the embedded page may have other restrictions. The available GoFullPage guidance does not promise a fix for every iframe.

5. Update the browser and extension

Check that Chrome and GoFullPage are up to date, then retry. The official FAQ contains historical examples involving Chrome 76 or 77 and GoFullPage versions earlier than 6.4; the store’s surfaced version history says version 6.4 fixed blank sections associated with zoomed-in pages. Those numbers are old compatibility references, not current version recommendations. Install the currently offered browser and extension versions rather than seeking out a historical version.

6. Recognize pages this method may not capture

  • PDF documents: The FAQ says GoFullPage cannot access or scroll a PDF document. A blank PDF capture is a compatibility limitation; use the PDF itself or another suitable capture workflow.
  • Custom JavaScript scrolling: Some sites control scrolling with custom JavaScript. The FAQ says those pages may not capture properly. There may not be a user-side setting that resolves it.
  • Persistent failure: If the page is neither an ordinary lazy-loading page nor an oversized capture, and the steps above do not help, contact GoFullPage support with the page type and a description of which section is missing. Avoid sending private page content unless support needs it and you are comfortable sharing it.

Do not assume that every blank section is an extension bug: the page’s rendering and scrolling behavior can be the limiting factor. The official FAQ directs users to contact support when an error persists.

7. Troubleshooting checklist

  • Blank content appears after a pop-up: Close the pop-up or information bar, then recapture.
  • Images or sections appear only while scrolling: Scroll through the whole page, wait for loading, and recapture.
  • Only the end of a very long page is blank: Reduce the captured area or page length; the output may exceed practical image-size limits.
  • An iframe is blank: Look for the optional permission prompt and grant it if appropriate.
  • The page is a PDF: GoFullPage says it cannot access or scroll PDF documents; use another workflow.
  • The site has custom scrolling: The extension may not capture it properly; contact support if the failure persists.
  • You are following old version advice: Update to the currently offered Chrome and extension versions; do not treat Chrome 76/77 or extension version 6.4 as current targets.

8. Or skip the browser setup

For a capture workflow you control through an API, ScreenshotNeo takes a website URL and returns an image or PDF. It can capture a full page, load lazy images, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, and adjust viewport and device settings. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);

Before capture, ScreenshotNeo accepts cookie or consent banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter pop-ups, and chat widgets; each step can be turned off. Bot checks and CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server gives AI agents tools to take screenshots, get page information, and capture PDFs. The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month without a card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Every feature is on every plan.

9. Frequently asked questions

Will scrolling always fix blank sections?

No. It can trigger lazy-loaded content, but it will not solve oversized captures, unsupported PDF rendering, or every custom scrolling implementation.

Does GoFullPage need permission for every page?

The permissions explainer describes an optional prompt when a page includes an iframe. The permission is for accessing embedded content during capture.

Should I install GoFullPage 6.4 to fix this?

No. Version 6.4 appears as historical information in the official materials. Update to the version currently offered in the store.

Why is only one embedded section missing?

That section may be inside an iframe. Check for the extension’s permission prompt; if it remains missing, the frame may have another compatibility restriction.

Can I capture a PDF with GoFullPage?

Its FAQ says it cannot access or scroll a PDF document. Use the PDF itself or another capture workflow.

How many images can a split capture contain?

The FAQ warns that a capture with ten or more split images may not complete. This is a stated product limitation, not a statistic about how often captures fail.
