How to Take a Full-Page Screenshot with GoFullPage
Install GoFullPage, capture a long Chrome page, and save it as PNG, JPEG, or PDF. Learn how to handle permissions, very long pages, and common problems.
To take a full-page screenshot with GoFullPage, install the official Chrome extension, open the page, and click the GoFullPage toolbar icon or press Alt+Shift+P. The extension scrolls through the page, assembles the visible sections, and opens the result in a new tab. From there, save it as PNG, JPEG, or PDF.
Capture a long page with GoFullPage
- Install the official extension. Open the GoFullPage – Full Page Screen Capture listing in the Chrome Web Store. Confirm the publisher is Full Page LLC.
- Open the page you want to record. Let it load into the state you need. If the page has content that appears as you scroll, give it time to load before capture.
- Start capture. Click the GoFullPage icon in Chrome’s toolbar, or use Alt+Shift+P. If the icon is hidden, open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu and pin GoFullPage.
- Wait for the result. The extension scrolls through the page and joins the captured sections. The completed image opens in a new tab.
- Choose an export. Save the result as PNG, JPEG, or PDF. PDF paper size and other export options are available in the extension settings.
Full-page capture takes longer than capturing the visible viewport because the extension has to visit each section. Keep the page open and let the capture finish.
Choose an image or PDF
Use PNG when you want a lossless image, such as for documentation or detailed page review. JPEG can be a practical choice when a smaller image file matters more than preserving every pixel exactly. Choose PDF when you need a document-style file.
To put the complete screenshot on one continuous PDF page, set PDF Size to full image in GoFullPage’s settings. Other PDF settings can change the paper size and export layout. A single very tall PDF page may be awkward to print or read; use a paginated layout when the document will be printed or shared as pages.
Permissions, if Chrome asks
Download permission
Chrome may ask for permission to download files. Allow it if you want to save the image or PDF locally. If you decline, copying the image to the clipboard may still be available, but local file and PDF downloads will not work.
Iframe permission
A page with content inside an iframe may trigger an optional permission prompt. Read the prompt before deciding. GoFullPage says that after permission is granted, the extension runs on the current tab only when activated. If you decline, capture may not work on that page, while ordinary pages without iframes can still be captured.
Very long pages, dynamic content, and embedded areas
GoFullPage says it supports inner scrollable elements and embedded iframes, but results can vary with the page and its dynamic behavior. If an image is too large for Chrome to store as a single image, GoFullPage reports the issue and splits the result into images in separate tabs. The extension does not publish a numeric maximum height, so there is no reliable pixel limit to plan around.
- Lazy-loaded images or sections: allow the page to settle before starting. If content loads only after scrolling, the result can depend on how the site responds during capture.
- Sticky headers or animations: these may appear differently across stitched sections. Pause animations or dismiss overlays on the page when possible, then capture again.
- Nested scroll regions: a page may contain a panel that scrolls independently of the main document. GoFullPage lists support for inner scrollable elements, but verify that the specific region you need appears in the result.
- Protected browser pages: browser-internal pages and some restricted pages may not allow extensions to capture them. Use the site’s own export option or another permitted capture method for those pages.
Screenshot history stays in the browser where you captured it; it does not automatically appear in another browser or on another device.
Common problems and fixes
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| GoFullPage icon is missing | The extension is installed but not pinned to the toolbar. | Open Chrome’s puzzle-piece Extensions menu and pin GoFullPage. |
| Shortcut does not start capture | The shortcut may be unavailable or overridden in the browser. | Click the extension icon. Check Chrome’s extension shortcut settings if you want to inspect or change the shortcut. |
| Capture does not include iframe content | The page may require the optional iframe permission. | Read the permission prompt and grant it only if appropriate for your use. Otherwise, expect capture on that page to be unavailable. |
| Image or PDF is not saved locally | Chrome’s download permission was declined. | Allow download permission if you need a local file; clipboard copying may remain available without it. |
| Result is split across tabs | The page is too large for Chrome to store as one image. | Use the separate image parts. The extension does not document a numeric height limit. |
| Some sections are blank or repeated | Dynamic loading, sticky elements, or nested scrolling may affect stitching. | Wait for the page to settle, close overlays if possible, and retry. Use the result page’s support/report control if the issue persists. |
| Capture works, but history is missing elsewhere | History is local to the browser used for capture. | Save or export the result and move that file to the other device or browser yourself. |
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo takes a screenshot or PDF from one API request. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
For Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
For Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);
Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your key and change the target URL. ScreenshotNeo can remove cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and 1,000 screenshots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Reliability, speed, and cost
GoFullPage runs in Chrome and captures the page by scrolling and assembling sections. Capture time therefore depends on page length and how quickly its content loads. The official listing does not give a numeric height limit or a timing guarantee. Its screenshot history is browser-local, so export important results rather than relying on another device to have them.
The research sources describe the extension workflow and export options but do not establish a current price or a universal compatibility guarantee. Check the official listing for current store details before installing.
FAQ
Can I capture with a keyboard shortcut?
Yes. The listed shortcut is Alt+Shift+P; clicking the toolbar icon is the alternative.
Can I make the PDF one long page?
Yes. Choose PDF Size “full image” in the extension settings.
Will my capture history sync to another computer?
No automatic sync is described. The history stays in the browser where the capture was made, so save or export the file if you need it elsewhere.
Does it capture every iframe and dynamic page perfectly?
No universal guarantee is documented. Iframe permissions, page behavior, and nested scrolling can affect the result; check the capture and retry or report a problem when needed.
