GoFullPage Is Not Capturing the Whole Page: How to Fix It
Fix incomplete GoFullPage captures by loading page content, checking scrolling and iframe permissions, and handling oversized pages.
If GoFullPage captures only the top of a page, first close pop-ups or information bars, scroll through the page to load its content, and then capture it. If that does not work, check whether the page is a browser-rendered PDF, uses custom JavaScript scrolling, contains an iframe that needs permission, or is too large to fit in one image. Those causes need different fixes.
1. Prepare the page and try again
- Close cookie notices, information bars, newsletter prompts, and other pop-ups that cover the page.
- Scroll from the top to the bottom yourself. This gives lazy-loaded images and other scroll-triggered content a chance to appear.
- Wait for the page to finish loading, then return to the top and start GoFullPage.
- When the capture finishes, inspect the entire output. Very long pages can be split into multiple images or result tabs.
GoFullPage describes its capture method as scrolling through the page and stitching the visible windows together. That method works best when the content is loaded and stable. A page that inserts or changes content as it scrolls may not produce the same result as a static export. The [GoFullPage FAQ](https://gofullpage.com/support) recommends closing information bars and pop-ups, scrolling through the page, and loading its content before capture.
2. Match the symptom to the cause
| What you see | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The capture stops before the bottom | Content has not loaded yet, or the page manages scrolling with custom JavaScript | Scroll through the page first. If it still stops, try the page’s own export or another capture route. |
| An embedded section is missing | The page contains an iframe that needs browser permission | Allow the GoFullPage permission prompt when it appears, then capture again. |
| The output is blank, split, or never finishes | The page is too large for one image, especially at high pixel density | Look for multiple output images or tabs. For a very long document, use its native PDF export if available. |
| The toolbar button is missing | The extension is installed but hidden in the browser’s extensions menu | Open the extensions menu and pin GoFullPage to the toolbar. |
| The screenshot appears, but saving fails | The extension may not have permission to download files | Check the browser’s Downloads permission. Clipboard copying may still work without it. |
3. Check special page types
Browser-rendered PDFs
GoFullPage says it cannot access and scroll a PDF rendered by the browser as a normal webpage. Use the PDF viewer’s download or print controls instead. If the PDF is embedded in a site, try opening the PDF directly before saving it.
Custom JavaScript scrolling
Some sites scroll content inside a custom container rather than the browser’s main page. GoFullPage identifies custom JavaScript scrolling as a limitation. If scrolling the browser window does not move the content through the whole page, use the site’s export option or capture the relevant sections separately.
Iframe content
An embedded frame may require extra extension access. GoFullPage’s permissions guide says it may request tabs, webNavigation, and host access when it encounters an iframe so it can scroll and capture embedded content. If you denied the contextual prompt, revisit the page and allow the request when offered. Pages without an iframe may still capture normally.
Extremely long pages
A full-page screenshot can exceed practical image-size limits. GoFullPage warns that oversized captures may appear blank or fail, and very large pages can be divided into multiple images. Its FAQ cautions that a capture requiring 10 or more images may not complete. Check every output tab before assuming sections were lost. For extremely long content, a page-native PDF export is often a better fit.
4. Find the extension or restore access
If the capture button is not visible, open the browser’s extensions menu and pin GoFullPage. The official FAQ provides steps for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox; in Chrome, open the puzzle-piece extensions menu and pin the extension.
If GoFullPage appears disabled, check the current official [Chrome Web Store listing](https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/gofullpage-full-page-scre/fdpohaocaechififmbbbbkkmifpjngb). The developer documented a temporary store removal in August 2026 and a later restoration; the listing supplied for this article showed version 8.9, updated September 29, 2026. Store availability can change, so use the current listing as the source of truth.
5. If the capture works but the download does not
Separate capture problems from save problems. If the screenshot is visible but cannot be saved locally, check whether the browser granted GoFullPage Downloads permission. Its permissions guide explains that this permission is needed to save screenshots as files; copying the image to the clipboard may still work without it.
6. Use a different capture route when the page is incompatible
After trying the preparation steps, switch methods if the page is a browser PDF, uses custom scrolling that the extension cannot follow, or is too long to produce a reliable single image. A native PDF export preserves document pages. For ordinary webpages, a screenshot API can capture a URL in a hosted browser without relying on the extension’s scroll-and-stitch path.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its API takes a URL in one GET request and returns an image or PDF. See the API documentation for the request options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', new Uint8Array(await res.arrayBuffer()));
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, pop-ups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.
Troubleshooting checklist
- Missing lower sections: scroll through the page first and wait for lazy content to load.
- Only an embedded area is absent: allow the iframe-related permission prompt.
- PDF page or custom scrolling: use a native export or a different capture method.
- Blank or split image: inspect all result tabs and reduce the capture to smaller sections if needed.
- Capture does not complete: an extremely long page may exceed the extension’s practical output limit.
- Missing toolbar icon: pin the extension from the browser’s extensions menu.
- Cannot save an existing capture: check Downloads permission or copy the image to the clipboard.
Performance, reliability, and cost
For GoFullPage, preparation affects reliability: load scroll-triggered content and remove overlays before the extension starts stitching. High pixel density and extreme page height increase output size; a native PDF or smaller captures can be more practical for long documents. The supplied GoFullPage sources do not state a price for the extension, so check its current listing for plan details.
ScreenshotNeo offers caching with a TTL you choose, asynchronous jobs with signed webhooks, and bulk capture for up to 100 URLs per call. Only clean shots are billed: responses identify the page verdict and billing status in headers, and cache hits cost nothing. Plans are Free at 1,000 shots per month, Starter at $5 for 3,000, Growth at $15 for 15,000, Pro at $39 for 60,000, Scale at $99 for 250,000, and Business at $249 for 1,000,000; yearly billing gives two months free. Every feature is available on every plan.
FAQ
Does GoFullPage capture the whole page by scrolling automatically?
It scrolls through the page and stitches the visible windows. Content that has not loaded, custom scrolling, and output size can affect the result.
Why is a GoFullPage result split into several images?
The page may be too large for one image. Check all result tabs; the FAQ says captures requiring 10 or more images may not complete.
Can I capture a PDF displayed in the browser?
GoFullPage says it cannot capture browser-rendered PDFs by scrolling. Use the PDF viewer’s own download or print controls.
Will allowing iframe access affect every page?
The permission is requested when needed for embedded content. GoFullPage says it can still work on pages that do not need iframe access.
