GoFullPage Stuck on Capturing Page: How to Fix It
Try GoFullPage’s recommended page preparation first, then check PDFs, custom scrolling, iframe permission, and oversized captures.
If GoFullPage stays on “capturing page,” first close information bars and pop-ups, scroll through the page so its content loads, and then retry. That is the extension developer’s recommended preparation, but it is not a guaranteed fix. If the capture still hangs, check whether the page is a PDF, uses custom JavaScript scrolling, contains an iframe for which permission was denied, or is large enough to produce many image parts. The official FAQ does not identify one universal cause for a capture hang.
1. Prepare the page and retry
- Close or dismiss cookie notices, information bars, and pop-ups that cover the page.
- Scroll through the page you want to capture. This can prompt content farther down the page to load.
- Wait until the content you want is visible and loaded.
- Run GoFullPage again.
These steps come from GoFullPage’s official FAQ. They are a useful first check, not a promise that every page will capture. If you cannot reproduce the issue after preparing the page, the problem may be intermittent.
2. Check what kind of page you are capturing
PDF documents
GoFullPage says it cannot access and scroll PDF documents. If the active tab is a PDF, the extension may not be able to make the full-page capture you expect. Open the page as a regular website if available, or use a PDF-specific workflow.
Pages with custom scrolling
Some sites control scrolling with their own JavaScript. GoFullPage identifies these as pages that may not capture properly. Try the preparation steps above, but treat a failure on such a page as a compatibility issue rather than evidence of a specific extension fault.
Pages with embedded iframes
If a page contains iframe content, GoFullPage may request additional permission to scroll and capture it. According to its permissions guide, denying that contextual request prevents GoFullPage from running on that page; pages without iframes should still work. The guide says this permission is requested when needed and cannot be granted ahead of time from Options.
Browser permission prompts deserve attention: Google explains that permission to access data on websites can allow an extension to read, request, or modify page data. GoFullPage describes its own permission request as contextual, but review the prompt and the extension’s explanation before granting it. See Google’s explanation of extension permissions.
3. Separate a capture hang from a save problem
GoFullPage’s Downloads permission is used to save screenshot files, history items, or edited screenshots. The developer says the extension can still copy an image to the clipboard without that permission. So if the capture completes but saving fails, check Downloads permission; that issue does not by itself explain a capture that remains stuck before completion.
4. Consider the page’s size and display density
Very large pages, especially on high pixel-density displays, may be split into multiple images. GoFullPage’s FAQ warns that a capture may not complete if it would produce 10 or more images. This is the extension maker’s stated threshold, not a general browser limit.
If the capture is exceptionally long or dense, try a shorter page or capture a smaller section to see whether size is involved. When GoFullPage completes a capture in parts, its FAQ says those parts can be viewed and downloaded.
5. Use this diagnostic checklist
- Pop-ups or information bars remain: dismiss them, scroll through the target page, wait for content, and retry.
- The tab displays a PDF: GoFullPage says it cannot access and scroll PDFs; use a PDF workflow instead.
- The site has custom scrolling: the extension may not capture it properly. Try again after content loads, then report the affected page if it persists.
- The page contains an iframe: allow the contextual iframe permission if you choose to use that function. If denied, GoFullPage says it will not run on that page.
- The capture is extremely large: it may be split into parts, and the FAQ says captures that would create 10 or more images may fail to complete.
- Capture finishes but the file will not save: check Downloads permission. Clipboard copying may still be available.
- The problem remains: contact GoFullPage support from inside the extension and include the page, browser and extension versions, permission state, and any error details.
6. Troubleshooting common symptoms
| Symptom | Possible explanation | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| “Capturing page” does not finish | The page may not be prepared, may use custom scrolling, may include an iframe without permission, or may be unusually large. The exact cause cannot be inferred from the spinner alone. | Prepare the page and retry, then check page type, iframe permission, and capture size in that order. |
| Extension does not run on one page | An iframe permission request may have been denied. | When prompted, review and grant the contextual permission if appropriate. The developer says it cannot be pre-granted in Options. |
| Some content is missing | Content farther down may not have loaded, or custom scrolling may interfere. | Scroll through the page and wait for the desired content before capture. If the site uses custom scrolling, report the page to support. |
| Capture appears split into pieces or does not complete | The page may be very large, especially on a high-density display. | Try a smaller section. The FAQ says a capture that would create 10 or more images may not complete. |
| Capture completes but download fails | Downloads permission may be missing. | Review the extension’s Downloads permission. This is a save issue, distinct from capture itself. |
| Premium login hangs | The FAQ’s system-clock advice applies to a hanging login page, not a confirmed capture-process cause. | If the issue is specifically Premium login, check that the computer’s system clock is correct. |
7. When to contact support
If the documented checks do not help, use the support route inside the extension, as the GoFullPage FAQ recommends. Include enough detail to distinguish a page-specific limitation from a broader problem: the affected page URL, browser and extension versions, whether the page contains iframes or custom scrolling, which permissions were granted, what happened after retrying, and any displayed error. Do not assume a particular cause without those details.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a screenshot of a public URL, this cURL example saves a WebP response:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the request options and setup. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, pop-ups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month.
FAQ
Is there one known cause for GoFullPage getting stuck?
No. The official FAQ describes several page and permission limitations, but does not name a universal cause for a capture hang.
Does a missing Downloads permission stop the capture?
The permission is for saving files and related items. GoFullPage says clipboard copying can still work, so a save problem is distinct from a capture that never completes.
Was GoFullPage removed from the Chrome Web Store?
The developer’s final update dated September 14, 2026 says the official extension had been restored and was then available for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Store availability can change, so check the current official store links if you cannot find it. The earlier August 2026 notices describe the temporary disruption.
