How to Capture Competitor SERP Screenshots in Hindi on Mobile-Width Browsers

Capture comparable Hindi search results at a chosen mobile width. Set up Chrome DevTools, record the conditions, and understand what screenshots can—and cannot—show.

To capture competitor search results at a chosen mobile browser width, use Chrome DevTools Device Mode: set a responsive viewport, choose mobile device behavior, run the exact query, then capture either the visible viewport or the full page. Record the query, script, location, date and time, browser, viewport, language settings, and visible result features with every image. This makes captures comparable; it does not make one screenshot representative of every searcher.

1. Define what you are comparing

Before opening the browser, write down the search conditions. Keep them constant across competitor captures unless a particular comparison deliberately varies one condition.

  • Exact query and script: preserve spelling and punctuation. For Hindi, note whether you typed Devanagari, such as हिंदी समाचार, or Latin transliteration, such as hindi samachar. Treat them as separate queries.
  • Search engine and browser: record both, along with the browser version if the comparison needs to be repeatable.
  • Date and time: include the time zone. Search results can change over time.
  • Location context: record the country, city or other location signal you used. Do not describe it as a universal location view.
  • Viewport: record width and height in CSS pixels and whether you used a device preset or custom dimensions.
  • Device mode: note whether DevTools used mobile device behavior or desktop mode with a narrow viewport.
  • Language and display settings: note interface language and any Search language preferences separately.
  • Visible result features: note translated-result labels, result modules, ads, and other features relevant to the comparison. Record what is visible rather than assuming how it was generated.

These details form the evidence label for each screenshot. Without them, differences between competitors may come from a changed query, location, viewport, session, or time rather than the sites themselves.

2. Set a mobile-width viewport in Chrome DevTools

  1. Open Chrome and navigate to the search engine you are studying.
  2. Open DevTools using the browser menu or the keyboard shortcut for your operating system.
  3. Turn on the device toolbar. In the device toolbar, select Responsive to enter dimensions directly, or choose a listed device preset.
  4. Enter the target width and height. Chrome documentation lists Mobile S at 320 px, Mobile M at 375 px, and Mobile L at 425 px. These are available presets, not a universal standard for competitor research. Choose a width that matches your research question and reuse it consistently.
  5. If you need mobile rendering behavior, select a mobile device type in the toolbar. A narrow desktop viewport and a mobile device emulation are not necessarily equivalent conditions.
  6. Record the viewport dimensions and selected device type before running the query.

DevTools Device Mode simulates aspects of mobile conditions; it does not run the search on a physical phone. Chrome calls it a “first-order approximation” and recommends testing on actual mobile devices when uncertain. For evidence where real-device rendering matters, repeat the search in a mobile browser on a phone and label that capture separately. Chrome DevTools: Simulate mobile devices with device mode.

3. Run the Hindi query and capture the SERP

  1. Enter the exact query you recorded. Do not silently replace a Devanagari query with transliteration or vice versa.
  2. Record the Search interface language and location context. The interface language controls surrounding menus and buttons; it does not guarantee that every result will be in Hindi.
  3. Inspect visible titles, snippets, translated-result labels, and other relevant result features. Note these in your comparison log.
  4. For a screenshot of only what is currently visible, open the DevTools command menu and choose More options > Capture screenshot.
  5. For the entire page, including content below the initial viewport, choose More options > Capture a full size screenshot. State clearly in your notes that it is a full-size capture.
  6. Repeat using the same recorded conditions for each competitor or query variant. If you intentionally change a condition, label that variation rather than mixing it into the same comparison.

Chrome’s documentation covers the device toolbar and both visible-viewport and full-size screenshot options: Device Mode documentation.

4. Interpret Hindi results carefully

Search interface language and result language are separate. Google says it uses multiple signals to determine helpful result languages and that Search results are not forced to match the display language. A Latin-script Hindi query may return Hindi results in Devanagari. Therefore, set and record the interface language, but inspect the actual results rather than treating that setting as a result-language guarantee. Google Search Central: How Google Search handles multilingual searches.

Google may show a translated title and snippet when a result is in a different language from the query, and Hindi is among its supported target languages. Translated presentation on the SERP is not proof that the source page itself is written in Hindi. Record any translated-result label and, when source language matters, open the page and check it separately. Google Search: Translated results.

Search results vary with context, including language signals and location. Google reported in 2023 that about half of people searching with Google are multilingual; that is Google’s dated statement, not a current independent measurement. Google India reported in 2020 a more-than-10X increase in Hindi queries since the launch of the Hindi chip and other language features. That is historical context about a feature rollout, not a current measure of Hindi search volume. Google India’s 2020 localisation post.

5. Keep competitor screenshots comparable

Comparison axis What to hold constant or label
Query Exact wording, script, spelling, and punctuation
Viewport Width and height in CSS pixels
Device behavior Mobile device mode, desktop mode, or physical phone
Location The location context used for each capture
Language Interface language and any Search language preferences
Capture context Engine, browser, date, time, and time zone
Result presentation Translated labels and visible result-page features
Capture extent Visible viewport or full-size page

There is no single universally correct mobile width or scoring protocol established by the cited documentation. Pick dimensions that fit your question, use them consistently, and explain any variation. A screenshot is evidence of one query and context at one time, not a promise about what every user sees.

Save the original screenshot with a descriptive filename, and keep a note alongside it. For example: google-hindi-samachar-2026-10-04-375x812-mobile.png. Put the location, exact query and script, time zone, and language details in the note or a structured capture log so the filename does not become unwieldy.

6. Optional SERP inspection tools

Chrome DevTools is sufficient for a controlled browser capture. MobileMoxie’s Chrome Web Store listing describes its SERPerator as offering mobile SERP inspection, language and location controls, mobile and desktop comparisons, and screenshots. Those are claims from the listing, not independent testing; verify current functionality and access terms before relying on it. SERPerator by MobileMoxie listing.

7. Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause Fix
Results are not all in Hindi Display language does not force result language; Search considers multiple signals. Record the exact query and language settings, inspect actual result text, and avoid claiming the interface setting guarantees Hindi results.
Hindi text appears for an English or Latin-script result The SERP may be presenting a translated title or snippet. Look for a translated-result label and open the source page if its original language matters.
Two captures have different layouts Viewport, device type, location, query, time, browser, or visible result features may differ. Compare the capture log and repeat with matched conditions, or label the condition that changed.
Capture has the wrong dimensions The responsive viewport was not set as intended, or the screenshot type was misunderstood. Check the device toolbar dimensions and distinguish viewport capture from full-size capture.
DevTools capture differs from a phone Device Mode is an emulation and first-order approximation. Repeat on a physical phone when real-device rendering matters, and label the phone/browser conditions.
A result or module appears only sometimes Search presentation can vary by context and time. Save the capture date/time and context; repeat captures if the comparison requires observing variation.

8. Automating screenshot capture

For a research record that requires the actual browser and SERP conditions above, use DevTools or a mobile browser and preserve the capture log. A screenshot API can capture a URL at a chosen viewport, but capturing a search-results URL is not by itself a guarantee that the API reproduces your browser session, location, language settings, or personalized results. For repeatable research, verify the returned page against the conditions you need to measure.

Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. Its API takes a URL and returns an image or PDF; it can be useful when the target is a public, stable page and you want to automate captures. For a SERP study, treat it as a capture mechanism and validate that the response represents the query and conditions you intend to compare. Its cleanup accepts cookie/consent banners and removes 60+ known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each cleanup step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. All plans include every feature. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation.

These examples capture the provided target URL. To use them for a public SERP, substitute the URL you have constructed and confirm it preserves the query and relevant search conditions. Do not put private credentials or sensitive search data in a public URL. ScreenshotNeo supports viewport selection, device presets, custom headers and cookies, wait conditions, full-page capture, and other options; consult the docs for parameter names and limits before adapting an automated workflow.

9. Reliability, speed, and cost notes

  • Reliability: keep the original image and its condition log together. For comparisons that may be challenged or revisited, repeat captures and retain timestamps. A single capture establishes only what appeared in that session.
  • Speed: DevTools is a direct manual workflow. Full-page screenshots include more content than viewport captures and can take longer to inspect and store. Automation is useful for repeated URL capture, but verify that the result reflects the intended SERP context.
  • Cost: DevTools itself is a browser feature. ScreenshotNeo offers 1,000 shots monthly free without a card; paid tiers are Starter $5/3,000, Growth $15/15,000, Pro $39/60,000, Scale $99/250,000, and Business $249/1,000,000. Yearly billing gives two months free. Only clean shots are billed, with verdict and billing headers on responses. 10. Frequently asked questions

Should I use Devanagari or Latin transliteration?

Use the form that matches the question you are researching. If both matter, capture them as separate query variants and label each precisely.

Does setting Google’s interface to Hindi make every result Hindi?

No. Interface language and result language are separate; record the setting and inspect the result content.

Can a full-page screenshot show what a user sees on their phone?

It shows a captured page beyond the initial viewport, but it is still a browser emulation if taken in DevTools. Use a real phone when actual device rendering is the research requirement.

What should accompany a screenshot when it is shared?

At minimum, include the exact query and script, engine, capture date/time and time zone, browser, viewport, device mode, location context, language settings, and whether the image is viewport-only or full-page.

Can one screenshot establish how competitors rank for all Hindi speakers?

No. Search presentation is contextual and can vary across people, locations, devices, and dates. Describe the screenshot’s conditions and scope.
