How to Set a Social Sharing Image for a Hindi WordPress Website

Set the right social preview image for a Hindi WordPress site with Yoast SEO, verify its Open Graph tags, and troubleshoot incorrect previews.

To set the image shown when someone shares a Hindi WordPress page, set its social image in your SEO plugin and make sure the page outputs the correct og:image Open Graph tag. In Yoast SEO, edit the post or page, open Social media appearance, and choose the image. The workflow is the same for Hindi and English pages; the language does not require a separate image format or setting.

A featured image can be used as a fallback, but an explicit social image gives you more control over what a crawler sees. The steps below use Yoast SEO. Menu names may vary by version; look for Social sharing, Social media appearance, or equivalent social image fields.

1. Enable Open Graph data in Yoast SEO

  1. In the WordPress dashboard, open Yoast SEO → Settings → Social sharing.
  2. Verify that Open Graph data is enabled. Yoast says it is enabled by default in its current instructions, but confirm the setting on your site.
  3. Save the setting if you changed it.

Open Graph metadata gives social crawlers information about a page, including the image to use. The og:image value is the key image field. Yoast cautions that duplicate Open Graph tags can cause platforms to display incorrect titles, descriptions, or images. Yoast’s Open Graph instructions explain the setting and the risk of duplicate output.

2. Set a social image for a post or page

  1. Edit the WordPress post or page you want people to share.
  2. Open the Yoast SEO sidebar and select Social media appearance.
  3. Choose the image for the social preview. You can also set a social title and description in the same panel.
  4. Update or publish the page.

Use a custom social image when the best image for a social preview differs from the article’s featured image. If you do not set one, Yoast can use a fallback image according to its documented priority order. Yoast’s Open Graph specification lists the relevant sources in order.

3. Set a site-wide fallback image

A default social image gives pages without a more specific image a fallback. In Yoast’s current instructions, the default is set in the site basics settings. Choose an image suitable for pages that do not have their own social image, then save your changes. Yoast’s Open Graph help article describes the site default.

A fallback improves coverage, but it does not replace a page-specific choice when a particular post needs a different preview.

4. Set the homepage image according to its type

  • Static homepage: Edit the page assigned as the homepage and set its social image through the normal post or page workflow.
  • Latest posts homepage: Use the homepage section in Yoast SEO settings to configure its social appearance.

These are different WordPress homepage configurations, so first check Settings → Reading to see which one your site uses. Yoast documents the corresponding homepage paths in its social preview instructions.

5. Understand which image WordPress will expose

Yoast documents this image priority for relevant content:

  1. A user-defined image in the Yoast Social tab.
  2. The post’s featured image.
  3. A prominent image in the content.
  4. A default image for the content type.
  5. The site fallback or default social image.

With the relevant Yoast extension, WooCommerce can also provide a product gallery fallback. The featured image is therefore one possible input, not a guarantee that every site will show it: plugin settings, other metadata output, and the selected page-level image all matter.

Yoast derives og:locale from WordPress language settings. That identifies a locale; it is not a Hindi-specific image format or a separate social image workflow. The reviewed documentation does not establish universal image dimensions for every social platform, so use the image guidance for the platform where you plan to share rather than assuming one size is universal.

6. Verify the generated metadata

  1. Open the published page on your site.
  2. Inspect the page source or rendered metadata and find og:image.
  3. Check that its value points to the intended image and that the page emits only the Open Graph values you expect.
  4. If the URL is still wrong, check the Yoast page-level image, featured image, content images, content-type default, and site fallback in that order.
  5. Look for another plugin or theme also emitting Open Graph tags. Resolve duplicate output so one consistent set of metadata is present.

This check separates a WordPress metadata problem from a social platform preview that may be using cached information. Platform cache behavior varies and is not covered by the cited Yoast setup documentation, so do not assume that changing the page instantly updates every existing preview.

Choose the right image-setting method

Method Best for Trade-off
Custom social image on each page Posts that need a specific, intentional preview Requires an editor to choose an image per page
Featured image fallback Sites where the featured image is also appropriate for sharing Depends on plugin output and page settings
Site-wide default image Pages that have no more specific image One shared fallback is less specific to each page

For predictable results on an important post, set its social image explicitly and verify the resulting og:image. Keep a site default as a safety net for pages where an editor has not selected a specific image.

Common problems and fixes

Symptom Likely cause What to check
The featured image appears instead of the chosen social image The page-specific social image was not saved, or the wrong page was edited Reopen the page’s Social media appearance panel and confirm the selected image
A generic image appears The page has no explicit social image and a fallback is being used Set a page-specific image or review the featured image and site default
The metadata points to an unexpected image Another plugin or theme may be outputting competing Open Graph tags Inspect the rendered source for repeated og:image tags and check other SEO or sharing plugins
The source has the new image but a share preview remains old The preview may be based on platform-cached data Verify the live page metadata first; platform refresh behavior differs, so consult the relevant platform’s current tools or guidance
The homepage has no expected social image The homepage may be a latest-posts view rather than a static page Check WordPress Reading settings and use the Yoast homepage controls that match that setup
The image workflow seems different on the Hindi site Dashboard labels or plugin versions may differ Look for the equivalent social sharing or social appearance fields; the documented image workflow is not Hindi-specific

Or skip the browser setup

If you also need a screenshot of the page for documentation or review, ScreenshotNeo captures a URL as an image or PDF with one API request. It does not set WordPress’s og:image metadata or replace the Yoast steps above. Its capture can remove cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; and its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. One thousand screenshots a month are free with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

FAQ

Does a Hindi WordPress website need a different social image setup?

No separate Hindi image workflow is identified in the reviewed Yoast documentation. Set the social image and Open Graph metadata through the same page and site settings.

No. A custom social image may take priority, and other metadata output can affect the result. Verify the page’s generated og:image.

Should I use one image for every post?

A site default is useful as a fallback. For a post where the preview matters, assign a page-specific social image.

What does og:locale control?

Yoast derives it from the WordPress language settings. It describes locale metadata; it does not choose the social image.
