How to Take a Full-Page Screenshot of a Web App in iPad Safari

Capture a long Safari webpage on iPad, save it as an image or PDF, and troubleshoot pages that do not capture as expected.

To capture a webpage longer than the iPad screen in Safari, take a screenshot, tap its thumbnail, choose Full Page, then save the result as an image or PDF. Apple documents this for an entire webpage in Safari; a dynamic web app may behave differently depending on how it loads content.

Take a full-page screenshot in Safari

  1. Open the web app’s page in Safari and wait for the content you need to appear.
  2. Take a screenshot using the shortcut for your iPad:
    • Without a Home button: quickly press and release the top button and either volume button together.
    • With a Home button: quickly press and release the top button and the Home button together.
  3. Tap the screenshot thumbnail at the lower-left corner before it disappears.
  4. Tap Full Page in the screenshot preview. The preview shows the longer capture; drag along it to inspect other parts.
  5. Optionally crop the capture, then tap Done.
  6. Choose Save to Photos for an image, or Save PDF to Files and select a location for a PDF.

Apple describes Full Page as capturing content beyond the screen, with an entire Safari webpage as its example. The feature is selected in the screenshot preview, not by rotating the iPad or changing Safari’s download settings. Apple’s iPad screenshot instructions cover the button shortcuts, preview, and save choices.

Choose an image or PDF

Option Use it when Where it goes
Save to Photos You want an image you can view or share as a picture. Photos
Save PDF to Files You want a document-format copy of the page. A location you choose in Files

If you want to annotate a webpage before saving it as a PDF, Safari also has an Apple-documented route: tap Share, choose More (some versions show View More), then Markup. Add annotations if needed, tap Done, choose Save File To, name the file, and save it. Menu labels can vary by software version. See Apple’s webpage-to-PDF instructions.

Web-app behavior and practical limits

The documented Full Page workflow is for a webpage in Safari. Apple’s instructions do not promise identical results for every web app, embedded view, or page that loads content dynamically. In particular, content that appears only after scrolling, interaction, or a delay may not be present in the preview. Check the preview before saving and try the troubleshooting steps below if parts are missing.

  • Need to see more while browsing? Rotate the iPad to landscape; it shows more webpage content on screen, but it does not replace Full Page capture. Apple’s Safari browsing guide describes the landscape view.
  • Looking for a downloaded file? Safari’s Downloads setting controls where downloads go, such as iCloud Drive or On My iPad. Screenshot saving has its own explicit Photos and Files choices. Apple’s Safari settings guide explains download locations.
  • Need another way to start a screenshot? Apple lists Apple Pencil, AssistiveTouch, and voice command as alternatives to the hardware buttons.

Troubleshooting

What happened Likely cause What to try
The screenshot only shows the visible screen. The thumbnail was not opened, or Full Page was not selected. Take another screenshot, tap its thumbnail promptly, and choose Full Page in the preview.
Full Page is missing from the preview. The current content or view may not offer the documented Safari webpage capture option. Open the page directly in Safari and try again. Apple’s instructions document an entire Safari webpage, not every embedded or app view.
Some page sections are blank or absent. The page may load content dynamically or only when a section comes into view. Wait for the page to finish loading and for visible content to appear before capturing. Inspect the preview and recapture if needed; the documented instructions do not guarantee capture of every dynamic page.
I cannot find the saved result. The chosen destination depends on whether you saved an image or PDF. Check Photos for Save to Photos. For Save PDF to Files, check the location selected in Files.
I expected a PDF in Safari Downloads. Screenshot export and Safari downloads use separate save flows. Choose Save PDF to Files in the screenshot flow, or use Share > Markup > Done > Save File To for the webpage PDF route.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a repeatable capture from code, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return an image or PDF. The examples below capture a page as WebP; see the ScreenshotNeo documentation for request options.

cURL

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; an MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots; and 1,000 screenshots per month are free with no card, with paid plans starting at $5 for 3,000.
