Why Full-Page Screenshots Are Not Showing on iPhone Reddit and How to Fix Them

Reddit’s iPhone app often hides Full Page. Open the thread in Safari to capture the complete page and save it as a PDF.

Short answer: iPhone’s Full Page screenshot control is tied to supported webpage or document content. The native Reddit app may show a long, scrollable thread, but it commonly does not expose Safari’s Full Page control. Open the Reddit thread in Safari, take a normal screenshot, choose Full Page, and save the result as a PDF.

Apple’s iPhone User Guide describes Full Page for content longer than the screen, using an entire webpage in Safari as the example. Apple’s support video also demonstrates a full-page, scrolling screenshot in Safari and saving it to Files as a PDF.

1. The reliable Reddit workflow

  1. Open the thread in the Reddit app.
  2. Tap Share.
  3. Choose the option that opens the link in Safari. If that option is not visible, choose Copy Link, open Safari, and paste the URL into the address bar.
  4. Wait for the thread to finish loading. Let images, comments, and other lazy-loaded content appear before capturing it.
  5. Take a normal iPhone screenshot with the device’s screenshot buttons.
  6. Tap the screenshot preview thumbnail. Depending on your iOS version, this opens the screenshot editor directly.
  7. At the top of the editor, select Full Page.
  8. Review the long preview. Use Crop if you only need the original post or a portion of the comments.
  9. Tap Done, then choose Save PDF to Files.
  10. Select a folder and tap Save.

The saved file is normally a PDF in the Files app. A regular screenshot saved to Photos contains only the visible screen area.

2. Why Full Page is missing in Reddit

The important distinction is the app context. Safari is a browser with a document-style webpage that iOS knows how to represent as one long capture. Reddit’s native app is a separate application view. A view can scroll for many screens without qualifying for the Safari-style Full Page document capture.

Current Reddit reports and focused Reddit how-to guides commonly describe the same behavior: the Full Page tab appears after opening the thread in Safari, but is absent in the Reddit app. The missing control does not mean your iPhone cannot make long captures; it usually means that the current app view is not supported.

Opening the same Reddit URL in Safari changes the capture context: iOS can treat the page as a document and offer Full Page.

3. If Safari also does not show Full Page

Work through these checks in order:

  1. Verify the app. The page must be open in Safari, not Reddit’s in-app browser or another embedded web view.
  2. Wait for rendering. Reload the thread and wait until the page stops changing. A partially rendered page can produce a normal screenshot without the expected document option.
  3. Retry from a fresh Safari tab. Close the current tab, open a new one, and paste the thread URL again.
  4. Restart Safari. Close Safari from the app switcher, reopen it, and repeat the capture.
  5. Test another long page. Try a plain, long webpage. If Full Page appears there, the Reddit page or one of its embedded components is the likely boundary. If it is missing everywhere, the issue is broader iOS or interface state.
  6. Update iOS. Install available system updates through the normal Settings update path. Safari is updated with iOS on iPhone.
  7. Check iOS 26 preview settings. iOS 26 added Settings > General > Screen Capture > Full Screen Previews. On some Apple Intelligence-capable iPhones, the screenshot editor and save flow require extra taps. This changes the preview workflow; it does not make an unsupported Reddit-app view eligible for Full Page.

4. What you can save: PDF, image, or visible screen

Need Best method Result
Entire thread for reading or archiving Safari Full Page PDF saved through Files
One image of only what is visible Normal iPhone screenshot PNG-like image in Photos
One raster image containing the whole thread Separate screenshot utility or desktop capture workflow Depends on the utility’s export format and limits
Only the original post or selected comments Safari Full Page, then Crop Cropped PDF section

Apple’s built-in Full Page result is a PDF. If you specifically need one long PNG or JPEG, you need a separate tool that can render or convert the page. Check its privacy policy, export format, and current App Store availability before sending private Reddit content through it.

5. Capturing a long Reddit page from a computer or service

If the goal is an image or PDF for documentation, moderation, testing, or an automated workflow, a browser-based capture can avoid the iPhone app limitation. A browser must still load the page, including content that appears only after scrolling.

Browser checklist

  • Use the canonical Reddit thread URL.
  • Wait for the page and lazy-loaded comments to finish rendering.
  • Capture the full page rather than only the current viewport.
  • Expect login prompts, consent banners, bot checks, deleted comments, and private communities to affect the output.
  • Do not assume a long scrollable page automatically produces a single image; the tool must explicitly support full-page rendering.
A full-page capture pipeline loads the thread, waits for deferred content, renders the complete document, and exports an image or PDF.

6. Or skip the browser setup

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return a clean PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a Reddit thread, replace the example URL with the thread URL you need to capture.

See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the complete option list.

cURL

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" \
  -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY \
  --data-urlencode url=https://www.reddit.com/ \
  -o reddit-shot.webp

Python

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={
        "access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY",
        "url": "https://www.reddit.com/",
    },
    timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("reddit-shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js

const q = new URLSearchParams({
  access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
  url: 'https://www.reddit.com/'
});

const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot failed: ${res.status}`);
const buffer = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('reddit-shot.webp', buffer));

ScreenshotNeo can capture full pages with lazy images loaded, wait for a selector, delay, or network idle, and return PDF output with paper size, margins, landscape mode, and page ranges. You can also set a viewport or device preset, retina scale, custom headers, cookies, user agent, timezone, geolocation, custom CSS or JavaScript, hidden selectors, and request or resource blocking.

Its consent handling accepts cookie banners like a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed. The response identifies the result with X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers.

An MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients. Plans include 1,000 shots per month free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.

8. Reliability, privacy, and cost notes

  • Reliability: Safari’s Full Page workflow is Apple-documented and local to the device. It is the simplest option for an occasional thread.
  • Coverage: The output covers the loaded webpage, not comments that require another page, a login you do not have, or content Reddit has removed.
  • Privacy: The iPhone workflow keeps the capture on your device. A third-party app or API receives the URL and may receive page content while rendering it; review its policy before capturing private or sensitive threads.
  • Cost: Apple’s built-in workflow has no separate capture charge. Automated services charge according to their plans and usage. ScreenshotNeo does not bill failed loads, bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, or cache hits.
  • Repeatability: For recurring captures, use a fixed URL, viewport, wait condition, and output format. Reddit content can change between captures.

9. FAQ

Can I take a scrolling screenshot directly in the Reddit iPhone app?

Usually no. The native app commonly does not expose iOS’s Full Page control. Open the thread in Safari instead.

Does Full Page save a long image to Photos?

Apple’s built-in Full Page result is saved as a PDF through Files. A single long PNG or JPEG requires another capture or conversion tool.

Will Full Page capture every Reddit comment?

It captures the loaded webpage. Collapsed, deleted, paginated, login-only, or not-yet-loaded content will not appear automatically.

Why does Full Page work on another website but not Reddit?

The Reddit page may contain embedded content, dynamic loading, or a layout boundary that prevents iOS from exposing the control. Test a plain long Safari page to separate a Reddit-specific issue from an iOS-wide issue.

Can I save the result as a PDF without installing an app?

Yes. In Safari, choose Full Page, tap Done, and choose Save PDF to Files.

What is the fastest automated option?

Use a screenshot API such as ScreenshotNeo with the Reddit URL. It can return an image or PDF and supports waits for pages that load content after the initial request.
