How to take mobile website screenshots in Chrome on an Android phone
Capture the page visible in Chrome on Android, make a scrolling screenshot where supported, and use desktop Chrome for a full-page capture.
To screenshot a website while it is open in Chrome on an Android phone, navigate to the part of the page you want and press Power + Volume Down at the same time. On Android 12 and later, you may be able to tap Capture more after taking the screenshot to include more of a scrollable page. That option works on most scrollable screens, not every website or phone. Google’s Android screenshot instructions explain the standard controls and scrolling capture.
Take a screenshot of the visible page
- Open Chrome on your Android phone and load the website.
- Scroll until the content you want is visible.
- Press Power + Volume Down together. On some devices, you can instead hold the Power button and tap Screenshot in the power menu.
- Tap the screenshot preview if you want to crop, edit, or share it. Otherwise, find it later in Photos or your Gallery app, usually in the Screenshots collection or folder.
This uses Android’s built-in screenshot controls while Chrome displays the page; you do not need a special Chrome toolbar button. Button behavior and menus can vary by phone maker and Android version.
Capture more of a scrolling webpage
On Android 12 and later, take a screenshot with Power + Volume Down, then tap Capture more if it appears. Adjust the crop guides to include additional content, then save or share the result. Google says the steps work on Android 12 and later “on most screens that allow you to scroll.” The control may not be available for a particular browser surface, webpage, or handset.
- Open the webpage in Chrome and position it near the start of the content you need.
- Take a standard screenshot.
- If the preview offers Capture more, tap it and extend the selection using the guides.
- Save the capture and check the resulting image to confirm the page content you need is included.
If Capture more is missing, check that the phone runs Android 12 or later and consult the manufacturer’s screenshot instructions. The feature is not promised for every scrollable screen, so use the desktop method below if you need a dependable full-page capture and have a computer.
Use desktop Chrome for a full-size mobile viewport screenshot
When you need the complete page rather than a screenshot assembled on the phone, desktop Chrome DevTools can capture a full-size screenshot while emulating a mobile viewport. This is a simulation, not a capture from the actual handset: rendering, device-specific behavior, and some page details may differ. Chrome DevTools Device Mode documentation describes the mobile simulation and screenshot options.
- Open the webpage in desktop Chrome and open DevTools.
- Turn on the Device Toolbar and select a responsive or device-sized mobile viewport.
- Open the Device Toolbar’s More options menu.
- Choose Capture a full size screenshot to include content outside the visible viewport. Choose Capture screenshot if you only need the current viewport.
Use the real phone’s screenshot controls when handset-specific appearance or behavior matters. Use DevTools when you need a full-page result and an approximate mobile viewport is suitable.
Choose the right capture method
| Method | What it captures | Requirements and limits |
|---|---|---|
| Android screenshot controls | The visible screen | Works while Chrome is open; controls can differ by device. |
| Android Capture more | Additional scrollable content | Android 12 or later; available on most, but not all, scrollable screens. |
| Chrome DevTools full-size capture | The full page in a simulated mobile viewport | Requires desktop Chrome and DevTools; mobile rendering is an approximation. |
Where Android saves screenshots
Tap the preview immediately after capture to edit or share the image. To retrieve it later, open Photos or the phone’s Gallery app and look for Screenshots. The exact app name and folder layout vary by device. If the screenshot is not there, check the device’s available storage and its screenshot folder.
Troubleshooting
The Power + Volume Down shortcut does not work
Press both buttons at the same time; button behavior may vary by manufacturer. Try holding Power and choosing Screenshot from the power menu, or follow your phone maker’s instructions for its screenshot controls.
There is no Capture more option
Scrolling screenshots require Android 12 or later and are supported on most scrollable screens, not universally. Check the Android version and manufacturer guidance. If the option remains unavailable, use Chrome DevTools on a computer for a full-size capture.
The screenshot was not saved
Check available storage and look in Photos or Gallery under Screenshots. Google identifies full storage and faulty buttons as possible causes. If the shortcut appears to fail, test whether the physical buttons work and use the device maker’s alternate method.
Android blocks the screenshot
Some apps restrict screenshots, and some browsers restrict them in Incognito. If capture is blocked, try the regular Chrome browsing mode or use another permitted capture method.
The DevTools image does not match my phone
Device Mode approximates mobile rendering; it is not the actual handset. For device-specific appearance or behavior, capture directly on that phone.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo can return a webpage screenshot through one API request. Its clean-shot flow accepts cookie or consent banners and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; those steps can be turned off. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and response headers identify the page verdict and billing status. ScreenshotNeo also has an MCP server with screenshot tools for AI agents.
For this example, the request captures the Stripe homepage. Replace the URL with the page you need and use your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', res);
ScreenshotNeo supports PNG, JPEG, WebP, and PDF output, along with mobile device presets and custom viewport dimensions. One thousand screenshots per month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for free and get 1,000 screenshots a month with no card.
FAQ
Does Chrome on Android have a standard full-page screenshot button?
The documented scrolling capture is Android’s Capture more control after taking a system screenshot. Its availability depends on the screen and device; do not assume a universal Chrome-specific full-page command.
Can I capture a page while using Incognito?
Some browsers restrict screenshots in Incognito. If Android blocks the capture, try the page in a regular Chrome tab.
Will a DevTools mobile screenshot look exactly like my phone?
No. Device Mode simulates a mobile viewport. Use the actual phone when its specific rendering or behavior matters.
