How to Monitor a Specific Section of a Page in ChangeTower
Use ChangeTower’s Specific Elements mode to watch a page section, reduce irrelevant alerts, and configure the monitor around the changes that matter.
To monitor one part of a page in ChangeTower, create a single-page monitor, enter the page URL, choose Specific Elements, select the sections in the screenshot preview, and save the selection. Then configure the monitor and click Create. ChangeTower compares later checks with the starting snapshot and can alert you when the selected content changes. ChangeTower’s setup guide documents this workflow.
Set up a monitor for a specific section
- Start a single-page monitor. In ChangeTower’s left navigation, choose New Monitor, then select single-page monitoring.
- Enter the exact page URL. Use the page that contains the section you need to watch.
- Choose Specific Elements. In the monitor setup, select Specific Elements instead of full-page monitoring.
- Select the section in the preview. Click the relevant areas or elements in the screenshot preview. When finished, click Save Selection. The selected areas are highlighted.
- Review the selection. Use Edit if you need to adjust it or add more areas.
- Configure the monitor. Set the available monitoring options that fit the page, such as threshold, manual user-action handling, and lazy-loading support where applicable.
- Set monitor details. In Details, add a recognizable name and tags, configure email alerts and monitoring frequency, and choose whether to save only when changes are detected or on every run.
- Create the monitor. Click Create. The initial capture provides the baseline for later checks.
These controls and labels reflect ChangeTower’s current help material. The exact controls available to your account may depend on its plan and product changes; check the current setup screen if a label or option differs.
Choose the right areas to watch
Choose content whose change should prompt action. ChangeTower gives examples such as pricing tables, legal terms, product specifications, compliance disclosures, job listings, and stock or availability information. Select enough of the relevant content to make a change understandable, while avoiding nearby page regions that change without affecting your decision.
- For pricing: select the price or plan details you need to track.
- For policy pages: select the clause or disclosure whose wording matters.
- For product pages: select relevant specifications or availability information.
- For job pages: select the listing or careers content you want to follow.
Selection is visual: you choose areas in a screenshot preview. Do not assume this is the same as writing a CSS selector or specifying a text-matching rule. If you need custom HTML criteria or a text-block workaround, consult the specific ChangeTower feature and verify that it fits your case.
Specific Elements or Ignore Elements?
ChangeTower describes two selective-monitoring approaches: watch chosen areas, or monitor the page while excluding noisy areas. Its feature page says a monitor uses one mode at a time, so treat these as alternative setups rather than combining them in one monitor.
| Approach | What it focuses on | Useful when |
|---|---|---|
| Specific Elements | The areas you select | You care about a particular price, clause, specification, or listing. |
| Ignore Elements | The rest of the page, excluding selected noisy areas | You want broader page monitoring but need to exclude changing banners, widgets, or other irrelevant regions. |
Examples of potentially noisy regions include consent modals, chat widgets, clocks or weather widgets, rotating promotions, ad slots, social feeds, and view counts. Whether a region is noisy depends on your goal. ChangeTower’s selective-monitoring page describes the two modes and says they cannot be used together in one monitor.
To use the ignore approach, start a single-page monitor, enter the URL, open advanced configuration, choose Ignore Elements, select the areas to exclude in the screenshot, save, configure the monitor, and create it. See ChangeTower’s ignore-elements guide for its documented steps.
Options to review before creating the monitor
- Monitoring threshold: review the threshold option if small changes create too many notifications or you need a particular sensitivity. The available research describes the option but does not establish exact threshold behavior for every site.
- Manual user actions: consider this when the content only appears after a user action. Configure actions as appropriate to reach the content before capture.
- Lazy loading: consider enabling lazy-loading support when the section may only load after scrolling or as it enters view.
- Frequency: choose a monitoring frequency appropriate to how quickly the information can change and how soon you need to know.
- Alerts and save behavior: choose whether to receive email alerts and whether to save every run or only runs where changes are detected.
- Name and tags: use a name that identifies the page and section, and tags that help you find or group related monitors.
Plan entitlements and check intervals can change. ChangeTower’s FAQ currently says section monitoring starts on Essential and ignoring specific elements is available on Business. Confirm current access in your account or on its FAQ and pricing information before relying on a particular plan feature.
Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
- Baseline matters: the monitor starts with an initial snapshot, then compares later checks against it. Make sure the selected section is present in that first capture.
- Dynamic pages need attention: pages that require a click, text entry, or delayed content may need manual actions or lazy-loading support. The documentation exposes these options but does not guarantee identical behavior on every site.
- Selection scope affects alert noise: selecting a broader region can include changes that are irrelevant to your purpose. Revisit the selection if notifications do not match what you intended to track.
- Frequency affects timeliness and plan use: select a schedule that matches the urgency of the information. Plan-specific intervals are time-sensitive, so check current account details.
- Cost depends on plan entitlements: selective monitoring is plan-dependent according to ChangeTower’s FAQ. Verify current pricing and feature availability rather than relying on old labels or plan tables.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| The section is missing from the preview. | The page may not have loaded the content yet, or it may require an interaction or lazy loading. | Review manual user-action handling and lazy-loading support. Confirm the content is visible in the page before saving the selection. |
| The wrong area is highlighted or the selection is too broad. | The visual selection may include neighboring content. | Use Edit to revise or add areas, then inspect the highlighted selection before creating the monitor. |
| Changes to a banner or widget still cause noise. | The monitor may be watching that area, or the monitor may be using Specific Elements rather than the ignore mode suited to your goal. | Review the selection. If you need to watch the rest of the page while excluding noisy regions, configure Ignore Elements as a separate mode. |
| You do not see the expected selective option. | The feature may not be included in your current plan, or the setup interface may have changed. | Check the current account entitlements and ChangeTower help material. Its FAQ lists plan-specific availability that may change. |
| You receive no alert after creating the monitor. | The page may not have changed since the baseline, or the changed content may be outside the selected area. | Review the selection and compare the current page with the starting snapshot. Confirm the monitor’s alert and schedule settings. |
| The page content depends on an interaction. | The relevant section may only appear after a click or other user action. | Configure manual user actions where applicable, then verify that the section appears in the capture before saving. |

If your task is to capture a page section as an image for inspection or documentation, ScreenshotNeo offers a screenshot API and MCP server. A screenshot is a point-in-time capture; it does not create a ChangeTower change monitor or send ongoing change alerts.
For a full-page capture, call the API with your URL and API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the other capture options, including element capture by CSS selector.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot; each step can be turned off. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed, and response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ
Can I monitor several sections on one page?
The setup guide allows selecting areas and editing or adding more areas. Select the sections you need in the preview and inspect the saved highlights.
Can I monitor selected sections and ignore other sections in the same monitor?
ChangeTower says one monitor uses one selective mode. Use Specific Elements to watch selected content or Ignore Elements to exclude noisy content from broader monitoring.
Is this the same as monitoring a CSS selector?
The documented workflow selects visible areas in a screenshot preview. The research does not establish that it accepts CSS selectors in this workflow.
Which plan includes section monitoring?
ChangeTower’s current FAQ lists section monitoring on Essential and ignoring specific elements on Business. Check the current plan details because entitlements can change.
