How to Preview a LinkedIn Post Before Publishing
Learn the documented ways to preview LinkedIn member posts, Page posts, and articles before they go live.
Short answer: for a regular LinkedIn member post, LinkedIn’s documented preview path is to schedule the post for a future time, open it from View all scheduled posts, and inspect its details and preview. This creates a scheduled post; LinkedIn does not document a universal preview-only button for an immediate, unscheduled member feed post.
The correct workflow depends on where you are publishing:
| Publishing surface | Documented preview path | Must it be scheduled? |
|---|---|---|
| Personal member feed | Schedule the post, then open it from Scheduled posts | Yes, for the documented preview workflow |
| LinkedIn Page | Page admins see a preview while creating the post | No, preview opens during composition |
| LinkedIn article | Choose Manage > Preview in the desktop publishing tool | No, but draft viewers must sign in |
Preview a personal LinkedIn post by scheduling it
Use this method when you are posting from your personal member account. LinkedIn’s help says scheduled member posts can be set from 10 minutes to three months ahead, with the time interpreted using your device’s time zone. The scheduled-post list provides the preview and controls for editing, rescheduling, or deleting the post.
- Open LinkedIn on a desktop browser and click Start a post in the share box at the top of your feed. On mobile, tap the Post icon. The entry points are described in LinkedIn’s posting help.
- Write the post and add its image, video, document, link, mention, or other content.
- Before publishing, click the clock icon in the composer. On mobile, tap the clock icon in the post window.
- Choose a publication time between 10 minutes and three months from now. Check the displayed time zone carefully.
- In the scheduling dialog, click View all scheduled posts.
- Select the post you just scheduled. LinkedIn opens its details and preview.
- Inspect the text, line breaks, media, link card, visibility, and scheduled time. If something is wrong, use the edit or reschedule controls.
- Make final changes before the scheduled time. If you do not want the post to publish, delete it from the scheduled-post list.
LinkedIn’s official instructions for this flow are in Schedule posts. Scheduling is therefore a practical preview technique, but it is not an unscheduled draft preview: the post remains queued to publish unless you edit, reschedule, or delete it.
What to check in the member preview
- Opening lines: confirm the first lines make sense before LinkedIn’s “see more” truncation.
- Paragraph spacing: check that blank lines and bullets survived the composer.
- Mentions and hashtags: verify that people, Pages, and hashtags resolve correctly.
- Media: confirm the correct image, video, or document is attached and that its crop is acceptable.
- Link previews: check the destination, title, description, and thumbnail. A link card can differ from the page you expected.
- Audience: verify the visibility setting and comment controls before the scheduled time.
- Time zone: compare the scheduled time with the audience’s intended local time.
Preview a LinkedIn Page post
Page posts use a separate workflow. A LinkedIn Page super admin or content admin can open a preview while creating the post, then return to it after choosing a schedule.
- Open the Page’s admin view and select Page posts.
- Click Start a post. LinkedIn opens a preview as part of the Page composer.
- Add or edit the post content and media.
- To publish later, click the schedule icon, choose a date and time, and select Next. LinkedIn returns you to the preview.
- Review the preview, then click Schedule when the post is ready.
See Schedule a LinkedIn Page post for the Page-admin steps and current restrictions. Page scheduling is not supported for events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs, and service posts. Page admins can later edit the content, visibility settings, comment controls, and brand-partnership indication of a scheduled post; the Page workflow should not be treated as identical to a personal member post.
Preview a LinkedIn article
Articles are long-form posts created in LinkedIn’s publishing tool, so they have a distinct preview feature.
- On desktop, choose Write article from LinkedIn’s publishing tools.
- Draft the headline, body, cover image, links, and formatting.
- Open Manage, then choose Preview.
- To let another person review the draft, choose Share draft. Viewers must be logged in to LinkedIn.
- Review the draft on a desktop browser and make final edits before publishing.
LinkedIn warns that article formatting can appear differently after publication, so preview is a review aid rather than a guarantee of identical rendering. Article draft preview is not available in the mobile app. The official workflow is documented in Write and publish articles on LinkedIn and Manage, share, or duplicate LinkedIn article drafts.
Preview versus proofreading
Visual preview and copy review solve different problems. LinkedIn’s Post proofreader can review, shorten, or clarify an English draft, but LinkedIn documents it as optional copy assistance for individual Premium Career or Premium Business subscribers. It does not show the final feed rendering, media crop, link card, or Page/article layout. Use it alongside the relevant preview workflow, not as a replacement for it. See How to use Post proofreader.
When LinkedIn’s preview is not enough
LinkedIn’s own preview is the authoritative check for your account, permissions, audience, and publishing surface. You may still want a screenshot when you need to:
- share an approval record with a teammate;
- compare desktop and mobile layouts;
- archive the exact appearance of a public preview;
- include the preview in QA documentation.
Only capture pages you are authorized to access. A screenshot of a public LinkedIn page cannot reproduce private account state, unpublished content, or a logged-in composer unless the capture environment is authenticated and permitted to use it.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need a clean screenshot of a public LinkedIn page or another public URL, ScreenshotNeo provides a single-request capture API. It removes cookie-consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed, and the response identifies the page verdict and billing status in headers. Its MCP server also gives Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf tools.
Read the full option list in the ScreenshotNeo documentation. The examples below capture a public URL; replace it with the page you are allowed to capture.
cURL
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://www.linkedin.com -o shot.webp
Python
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://www.linkedin.com"},
timeout=90,
)
r.raise_for_status()
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://www.linkedin.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`HTTP ${res.status}`);
const fs = await import('node:fs/promises');
await fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer()));
Useful capture choices
| Need | ScreenshotNeo option |
|---|---|
| Capture an entire long page | Full-page capture with lazy images loaded |
| Capture one known region | Element capture by CSS selector |
| Match a device | One of 12 device presets, or a custom viewport |
| Retina-quality output | Retina scale |
| Repeat the same URL efficiently | Caching with a TTL you choose |
| Use a public image tag | Signed links |
| Capture many public pages | Bulk capture, up to 100 URLs per call |
ScreenshotNeo has a free plan with 1,000 shots per month and no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; yearly billing gives two months free, and every feature is available on every plan. Create a free ScreenshotNeo account.
Troubleshooting
I cannot find the preview button for a normal member post
LinkedIn does not document a universal preview-only control for an immediate member feed post. Use the clock icon to schedule it, then open View all scheduled posts and select the post. Delete or reschedule it if you do not want it to publish.
The scheduled time is wrong
Scheduling uses the device or account location shown by LinkedIn. Recheck the time zone in the scheduling dialog and compare it with the intended audience’s local time before saving.
Scheduling is unavailable
Some post types cannot be scheduled. For member posts, LinkedIn lists events, jobs, and services among unsupported types. For Pages, events, multiple photos, reshares, polls, jobs, and service posts are unsupported. Remove the incompatible type or publish immediately.
The Page preview does not appear
Confirm that you are in the Page’s super-admin or content-admin view and opened Page posts > Start a post. A personal member account does not receive the Page-admin preview workflow.
An article looks different after publishing
Article preview is desktop-only and LinkedIn notes that formatting can change after publication. Check headings, links, images, spacing, and embeds in the preview, then review the live article immediately after publishing.
The proofreader changed my wording but did not show the layout
That is expected. Proofreader actions are copy suggestions. Return to the member, Page, or article preview to inspect visual presentation.
A ScreenshotNeo capture is blank or marked as a bot check
Inspect the X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed response headers. ScreenshotNeo does not bill bot checks, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, or cache hits. Verify that the URL is public and permitted for capture, then adjust waiting, viewport, headers, cookies, or user-agent options in the documentation if the page requires them.

FAQ
Can I preview an unscheduled personal LinkedIn post?
LinkedIn’s reviewed help does not document a universal standalone preview for an immediate member feed post. The documented preview path uses a scheduled post.
Does scheduling publish the post immediately?
No. It queues the post for the selected future time. You can inspect, edit, reschedule, or delete it from Scheduled posts before then.
Can I preview a LinkedIn Page post without scheduling it?
Yes. Authorized Page admins see a preview during Page post creation. Scheduling is optional unless you want the post to publish later.
Can I share an article preview with a colleague?
Yes. In the desktop article editor, choose Preview and then Share draft. The viewer must be logged in to LinkedIn.
Does LinkedIn’s proofreader check how the post looks?
No. It helps with English copy by reviewing, shortening, or clarifying text. Use the appropriate visual preview to check layout and media.
