FireShot Extension Missing from Chrome Toolbar: How to Restore It

Restore FireShot by pinning it from Chrome’s Extensions menu. If it is missing or flagged, check its installation, settings, and Chrome’s repair option.

If FireShot is installed in desktop Chrome but its button is missing from the toolbar, open the Extensions menu (the puzzle-piece icon), find FireShot, and select its pin control. If FireShot is not in that menu, check whether it is installed and enabled on Chrome’s extensions management page. If Chrome says it is corrupted, use Chrome’s Repair option there.

1. Pin FireShot from Chrome’s Extensions menu

  1. In Chrome, select the puzzle-piece Extensions button near the address bar.
  2. Find FireShot in the list.
  3. Select the pin control next to FireShot. The button should then appear in the toolbar.

An extension can be installed and available in the Extensions menu without its button being pinned on the toolbar. FireShot’s getting-started instructions direct users to open the puzzle menu and pin FireShot. See FireShot’s getting-started guidance.

2. If FireShot is not in the menu

  1. Open Chrome’s extensions management page using the browser menu or by entering chrome://extensions in the address bar.
  2. Look for FireShot in the installed extensions list.
  3. If it is present, check that its enabled switch is on, then return to the Extensions menu and pin it.
  4. If it is absent, check whether it was removed or whether Chrome is using a different profile from the one where FireShot was installed.
  5. On a work or school computer, ask the administrator whether extension access is restricted. Managed-device policies can affect which extensions are available.

Chrome’s toolbar customization controls visible toolbar buttons; the extensions management page is where you check an extension’s installed and enabled state. Consult Chrome’s toolbar customization help and Chrome’s extension management guidance if the labels differ in your version.

3. Repair FireShot if Chrome reports corruption

If Chrome identifies FireShot as corrupted, open the extensions management page, find FireShot, choose Repair, and confirm the action. When repair completes, reopen the Extensions menu and pin FireShot if needed. Chrome documents this repair path in its extension troubleshooting guidance.

4. Capture a screenshot while you troubleshoot

You do not need the toolbar button to start a capture. FireShot also provides these entry points:

  • Right-click menu: right-click the page and choose the FireShot capture command.
  • Keyboard shortcut: press Ctrl+Shift+S.

If a shortcut does not work, check FireShot’s current shortcut instructions and Chrome’s keyboard shortcut settings. The context-menu and shortcut options are described in FireShot’s help.

Troubleshooting

The Extensions button is not visible

Look in Chrome’s toolbar area near the address bar and check the browser menu for extension controls. Chrome’s toolbar customization help explains how to customize toolbar buttons. If the toolbar itself was changed, review its customization settings.

FireShot is listed, but there is no pin control

Check the current Chrome interface and the extension’s entry in the Extensions menu. If FireShot is disabled, enable it on chrome://extensions, then check the menu again. Chrome may change interface labels over time.

FireShot is absent from the installed list

Confirm you are viewing the Chrome profile where you installed it. If it is still absent, check the Chrome Web Store listing and your organization’s extension policy before reinstalling. A managed browser may restrict installation.

Repair is unavailable or does not restore the button

Repair applies when Chrome reports an extension problem. After repairing, verify that FireShot is enabled and pin it from the Extensions menu. If Chrome no longer flags it as corrupted but the menu entry remains absent, check installation and profile instead.

The right-click command is missing

That is a separate symptom from an unpinned toolbar button. Try the keyboard shortcut while checking the extension’s current help and Chrome’s state. A FireShot support report about a context-menu issue dates to 2024; it does not establish the cause of a missing toolbar icon in current Chrome.

Keeping the fix reliable

  • After Chrome or FireShot updates, check whether the extension remains enabled and pinned.
  • If you use multiple Chrome profiles, verify the active profile before changing extension settings.
  • On managed computers, resolve policy restrictions with the administrator rather than repeatedly reinstalling.

Updating Chrome and FireShot is a reasonable troubleshooting step if the listed steps do not match your setup, but the available evidence does not establish outdated software as the cause of this toolbar symptom.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need screenshots through code instead of restoring a browser button, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its capture flow removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. FAQ

Does a missing toolbar button mean FireShot was uninstalled?

Can I use FireShot without pinning it?

Yes. FireShot documents capture through the page’s right-click menu and Ctrl+Shift+S.

Do these steps apply to Chrome on phones?

The steps here cover desktop Chrome. The cited guidance does not establish an equivalent mobile toolbar workflow.
