How to Save a FASTag Transaction Webpage as PDF for a Dispute in India
Save a FASTag transaction page as a PDF, preserve supporting records, and learn what evidence may help when you dispute a toll deduction in India.
To save a FASTag transaction webpage as a PDF, open the transaction details in your issuer’s official app or website, then use your browser’s Print command and choose Save as PDF. Check that the saved page shows the transaction date and time, toll plaza, amount, vehicle or tag reference, and status where available. Keep the page URL and retrieval date, and preserve the issuer alert, account statement entry, complaint acknowledgement, and relevant supporting records alongside the PDF.
This is a practical way to preserve a copy of what the page displayed. It is not an issuer-prescribed or certified procedure, and a PDF alone does not guarantee that a dispute will be accepted. The NETC dispute guidance describes transaction validation and supporting proof; for a suspected cloned tag or wrong-location debit, evidence of where the vehicle was at the relevant time may matter. See the IHMCL NETC Procedural Guidelines.
Save the FASTag transaction page as a PDF
- Open the issuer’s official app or website. Sign in and open the exact transaction entry. Confirm that the vehicle or tag reference corresponds to the disputed debit.
- Record the page URL and retrieval time. The URL may be available in the browser address bar when using the website. An app may not expose a URL; note that you saved the transaction from the issuer app instead. This context does not independently certify the page’s authenticity.
- Open Print. On a desktop browser, use the browser menu’s Print command or the operating system’s print shortcut. On a phone, open the browser menu and look for Print or Share, then the system print option. Menu names vary by device and browser.
- Choose a PDF destination. Select Save as PDF or the equivalent PDF destination, review the preview, and save the file locally.
- Check the saved file. Open it and verify the visible date and time, toll plaza, amount, vehicle or tag reference, and status where shown. Check all pages and make sure important context is not cut off.
- Use a clear filename. For example:
FASTag_transaction_2026-10-04_plaza_amount.pdf. Replace the date, plaza, and amount with the transaction details. - Keep the original copy unchanged. If you need to add explanations or highlight information, make a separate annotated copy. Do not alter or fabricate records submitted as evidence.
If the print preview omits a critical field, save the PDF anyway if useful, then capture a separate screenshot of the field and note what the PDF leaves out. Keep the screenshot as a separate record rather than editing the PDF to imply that omitted information appeared there.
Build a useful dispute record
A webpage PDF is one record in a larger packet. Preserve records in their original form where possible, and ask the issuer what exact documents it needs for the particular dispute.
- The unedited PDF of the transaction page, its URL if available, and the date and time you retrieved it.
- The original FASTag SMS or email alert and the relevant account statement entry.
- Your complaint text, submission date, complaint or ticket reference, acknowledgement, and the issuer’s reply.
- For a suspected cloned tag or a claim that the vehicle was elsewhere, contemporaneous records tied to the vehicle and location. IHMCL’s guidance names government receipts or documents bearing the vehicle registration number and timestamped vehicle images or video. Its process flow also gives parking receipts, fuel-recharge receipts, and legal affidavits as examples of possible additional proof.
Keep a copy of everything submitted and the acknowledgement. Location evidence may be relevant to a cloned-tag or wrong-location dispute; it is not a universal checklist for every FASTag complaint. The issuer handling the case can say what it needs.
Where to report a disputed FASTag transaction
Start with the FASTag issuing bank or issuer’s current official complaint channel for an account debit or transaction-record problem. NHAI’s FASTag information identifies the issuer’s customer service as a complaint route. Its FASTag FAQ also identifies the National Highway helpline 1033 for specified toll-plaza problems, such as a tag wrongly treated as blacklisted, a plaza refusing FASTag, or a plaza unable to read the tag, and describes escalation to NHAI or IHMCL.
The FAQ lists etc.nodal@ihmcl.com for escalation when issuer-bank customer care is not working or responding. Contact details and operational routes can change, so check the current NHAI, IHMCL, or issuer page before sending sensitive information. Keep the complaint reference and response whichever route you use.
| Issue | Start with | Keep |
|---|---|---|
| Unexpected debit or transaction details | The FASTag issuer’s official customer-service or complaint channel | Transaction record, alert, statement entry, complaint reference, and reply |
| Toll-plaza acceptance or tag-reading problem | The issuer and, for the specified plaza-level issues, helpline 1033 | Time, plaza, vehicle/tag details, and complaint acknowledgement |
| Suspected cloned tag or vehicle at another location | The issuer’s dispute channel; ask which location evidence it needs | Transaction record and contemporaneous records tied to vehicle and location |
FASTag disputes and RBI unauthorised-transaction rules
Do not assume every disputed toll is an RBI unauthorised banking transaction. RBI’s customer-liability directions apply to unauthorised electronic banking transactions covered by that framework; whether a particular FASTag debit qualifies depends on what happened and how the issuer classifies the complaint. Report promptly to the issuer and ask it to identify the applicable process.
The RBI directions describe different outcomes for specified circumstances and reporting delays, including a three-working-day reporting window for zero liability in a specified third-party-breach case, and windows of four to seven working days and beyond seven working days in other specified cases. These are not general FASTag dispute deadlines or an automatic refund rule for a disputed toll amount or plaza transaction. Read the RBI customer-protection notification and follow the issuer’s instructions for your case.
For complaints that may qualify for the RBI Integrated Ombudsman process, confirm current eligibility and filing instructions on RBI’s live CMS or FAQ before escalating. The supporting information may include the regulated entity, complaint reference and date, transaction details, the entity’s reply, and documents, but requirements should be checked against current RBI instructions.
Print-to-PDF troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The PDF is blank or missing transaction details | The page had not finished loading, the session expired, or the issuer renders details in a way the print view does not include. | Return to the transaction while signed in, wait for the details to appear, and print again. If a field is still absent, save a separate screenshot and record the omission. |
| Important columns or text are cut off | The page is wider than the paper size or the print scale is too large. | Review print preview; try landscape orientation, a smaller scale, or a larger paper size if offered. Verify the resulting pages before keeping the copy. |
| The issuer app has no Print option | Some apps do not expose a printable transaction page. | Check whether the issuer offers a transaction statement or downloadable record. Otherwise, open the issuer’s official website in a browser if available, or preserve a screenshot and retain the alert and statement entry. |
| The page asks you to sign in again | The authenticated session expired or the page requires a fresh login. | Sign in through the issuer’s official app or site, reopen the transaction, and save it while the details are visible. Do not share credentials with a third party. |
| The PDF shows an unexpected date, plaza, or amount | The wrong transaction may be open, or the page may show a different date/time zone or status. | Compare it with the issuer alert and statement entry, reopen the exact transaction, and ask the issuer to explain any discrepancy. Preserve both records. |
| The file saved but will not open | The save may have been interrupted or the file may not be a complete PDF. | Check the filename and file size, then repeat the browser save. Keep the original transaction page available until you confirm the new file opens. |
Performance, reliability, and record handling
For one transaction, browser Print-to-PDF is usually the simplest preservation method and requires no screenshot service. It depends on the issuer page being available and the relevant details being rendered in a printable view. Sign-in expiry, dynamic page content, and narrow mobile layouts can affect what appears, so inspect the saved output before relying on it.
Save promptly after finding the transaction, while you can still access its details. Keep a second copy of the original PDF and related records in a secure place you control. Avoid putting account credentials, full tag details, or personal records into a public link or an untrusted service. A saved webpage is a copy of a displayed record; it does not prove by itself that the issuer’s underlying transaction record is correct or establish the outcome of a complaint.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server for developers. Its API can capture a page as an image or PDF; use only pages you are authorized to access, and never send issuer login credentials to a capture service. For a public, non-sensitive page, the one-call API looks like this. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for options and setup.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
With ScreenshotNeo, cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. An MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Those features do not make a private FASTag transaction record safe to send to a third party: use the issuer’s own channel for sensitive records.

Frequently asked questions
Does a PDF made from my browser prove that a toll was charged incorrectly?
It preserves what the issuer page displayed when you saved it, but it is not a certification or a decision on the dispute. Submit it with the other records the issuer requests.
What if the issuer page does not show the vehicle number or tag reference?
Do not fill in the missing value yourself. Keep the PDF as saved, note which field is absent, and attach the matching issuer alert or statement entry if it contains the reference.
Should I send the PDF to 1033?
Use the route appropriate to the issue. NHAI describes 1033 for specified toll-plaza-level problems; an account debit dispute generally starts with the issuer. Check the current official instructions before sharing documents.
Is a wrong toll amount automatically an unauthorised transaction under RBI rules?
No. A disagreement about an amount or plaza is not automatically an unauthorised electronic banking transaction. Ask the issuer which dispute process applies to the facts.
