How to Save a Full Webpage as an Image in Firefox
Save a full-page Firefox screenshot as a PNG, copy it to your clipboard, or choose the right option for offline reading.
To save a full webpage as an image in desktop Firefox, open the page, right-click an empty area and choose Take Screenshot. You can also press Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+S on macOS. In the screenshot tool, select Save full page in the upper-right corner, then choose Download to save a PNG. Choose Copy if you want to paste the image into another app. Mozilla’s Firefox screenshot guide documents these controls.
Steps to capture the entire page
- Open the webpage in Firefox and wait for its content to finish loading.
- Open Firefox Screenshots by right-clicking an empty part of the page and selecting Take Screenshot. If the context menu is inconvenient, use the keyboard shortcut: Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux or Command+Shift+S on macOS.
- Select Save full page at the upper right. This captures the whole page, including content outside the current viewport. Save visible captures only what is currently visible.
- Choose Download to save the image in Firefox’s default download location. Mozilla says the filename includes the date, time, and page title.
To transfer the screenshot without first saving a file, choose Copy and paste it into a compatible application. Press Esc to cancel the screenshot.
Choose full page, visible area, or a selected region
| Choice | What it captures | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Save full page | The full webpage, including areas beyond the viewport | You need a scrolling or full-page screenshot |
| Save visible | The currently visible browser viewport | You need a quick screenshot of what is on screen |
| Selected region or highlighted element | A rectangle you draw or a page element Firefox highlights | You need one part of a page rather than the whole document |
Firefox also lets you adjust a selected region. Its screenshot interface supports keyboard movement with arrow keys and modifier-key shortcuts. Mozilla notes that moving the crosshair does not work on Wayland, so use the mouse or another capture method if that affects your workflow.
Add a Screenshot button to the Firefox toolbar
If you take screenshots often, add the built-in control to the toolbar:
- Open the Firefox menu and choose More Tools, then Customize Toolbar.
- Find the Screenshot item and drag it onto the toolbar.
- Select Done. Use the new toolbar button whenever you want to open the screenshot interface.
Make sure the page is ready before capturing
A full-page screenshot records the page as it appears when Firefox captures it. Before starting, scroll through the page if it loads images or other content as you move down. Wait for animations, embeds, and asynchronously loaded sections that matter to finish. If the page changes while capturing, reload it, wait for a stable state, and take the screenshot again.
Some pages show consent banners, newsletter dialogs, or chat panels over the content. Dismiss them before capture if you want an unobstructed image. If the site only loads lower-page images after scrolling, scroll down through the page first, then return to the top and use Save full page.
Save an image, copy it, or save the webpage for offline use
These actions create different outputs:
- Download in Firefox Screenshots saves a screenshot image file.
- Copy puts the screenshot on the clipboard so you can paste it into another app.
- Save Page As saves webpage files for offline browsing; it does not create one full-page image.
For offline use, Firefox’s Web page, complete option saves the page and supporting files in a directory. Web page, HTML only saves the HTML without page images, while text and all-files choices have their own formats. To save one image already displayed on the page, right-click that image and choose Save Image As. See Mozilla’s guide to saving a webpage for those file options.
Firefox on iPhone and iPad
The Firefox for iOS instructions describe a different workflow that saves a full-page capture as a PDF, not as the desktop PNG image. Open the page, take an iOS device screenshot using the button combination for your device, tap the screenshot thumbnail, choose Full Page, tap Done, then choose Save as PDF. Refer to Mozilla’s Firefox for iOS instructions for the platform-specific steps.
Or skip the browser setup
If you need repeatable captures from a script or service, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. One GET request can return an image or PDF. The example below requests a WebP screenshot; replace the placeholder key with your API key. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and response details.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
const image = Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer());
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', image));
- Cookie and consent banners, popups, and chat widgets can be removed before capture.
- Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing status.
- An MCP server provides screenshot tools for AI agents, including Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
- The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to try |
|---|---|---|
| “Take Screenshot” is missing from the context menu | You right-clicked a link, image, input, or another item with its own menu. | Right-click an empty area of the page, use the keyboard shortcut, or add the Screenshot toolbar button. |
| The image contains only the visible screen | You chose Save visible. | Open Screenshots again and select Save full page. |
| Some images or sections are blank | The page had not loaded them yet, or it loads them only after scrolling. | Wait for loading to finish; scroll down to trigger lazy-loaded content, then return to the top and capture again. |
| A banner or chat box covers the page | The page displayed an overlay when it was captured. | Dismiss the overlay before capturing, if the site allows it. |
| You expected an image but got webpage files | You used Save Page As. | Use Take Screenshot and Download for a screenshot image. |
| The screenshot shortcut does not open the tool | The shortcut may differ by operating system, or the browser focus may be elsewhere. | Use the context menu or toolbar button. The documented shortcuts are Ctrl+Shift+S on Windows/Linux and Command+Shift+S on macOS. |
Performance, reliability, and file handling
Capturing a long page takes more work than capturing the viewport, and very long pages may produce large image files. For a smaller result, capture only the relevant region or use Save visible. Save the download somewhere with enough space, and check the file before sharing it if the page contains personal or confidential information.
A screenshot is a static image of the page at capture time. It will not preserve clickable links, page behavior, or a live view of future changes. If you need to browse the page offline, use Save Page As; if you need a searchable or printable document on iOS, the documented Firefox workflow saves a PDF.
