How to Save a GoFullPage Screenshot as a PDF

Capture a webpage with GoFullPage, download it as a PDF, choose a useful layout, and troubleshoot pages the extension cannot scroll.

To save a GoFullPage capture as a PDF, open the webpage in Chrome, start GoFullPage from the browser toolbar, wait for the completed capture to open in its screenshot page, then select the PDF download control. You can also right-click the screenshot and choose Save PDF As…. GoFullPage documents both save routes.

Save a GoFullPage capture as a PDF

  1. Open the webpage you want to capture in Chrome. Scrollable webpage capture does not work on a page that is itself a PDF.
  2. Start GoFullPage from Chrome’s toolbar. If it is not visible, open the browser’s extensions menu and select it there.
  3. Wait for the extension to scroll through and capture the page. The result opens in a new tab.
  4. In the screenshot page, select the PDF download control. Alternatively, right-click the screenshot and choose Save PDF As….
  5. Choose the PDF layout and save the file to your device.

The extension’s Chrome Web Store listing describes image and PDF download options. Store screens and extension availability can change, so check the current official listing when installing.

Choose a PDF layout

The available options depend on the extension’s current interface and plan. Its listing describes these output choices:

  • Continuous PDF: puts the captured page on one long page. This can preserve the whole page as one uninterrupted image, but it may be difficult to print or read at normal paper size.
  • Paginated PDF: splits the capture across standard paper sizes, including A4, US Letter, and US Legal.
  • Orientation: portrait or landscape where the option is available.
  • Fit to one page: scales the screenshot to fit one continuous PDF page.
  • Smart page splitting: aims to avoid cutting through text.
  • URL and capture time footer: can add source and date context to the PDF.

Smart splitting and URL/date details appear in GoFullPage’s Premium feature comparison. Check the live plan details before relying on them; availability can change. For printing, paginated output is usually easier to handle. For an uninterrupted record of a long page, choose a continuous output and expect it to be awkward at ordinary paper scale.

When the capture is incomplete

GoFullPage’s scrolling capture depends on being able to control page scrolling. Its FAQ says some sites use custom JavaScript scrolling that can prevent the usual capture workflow. It also says the extension cannot access PDF documents for scrolling capture. If the result is missing content, check those two conditions first.

Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to do
The PDF is missing sections of the page. The site may use custom JavaScript scrolling, or the capture may not have finished. Retry after the page has loaded. If the site controls scrolling with custom JavaScript, GoFullPage’s normal full-page workflow may not work for it.
The page is a PDF and cannot be captured by scrolling. GoFullPage says its scrolling capture cannot access PDF documents. Use the original PDF file if you need a PDF copy; the extension’s webpage scrolling workflow is not suitable for PDF documents.
You cannot find the PDF control. You may not be on the completed screenshot page, or the interface has changed. Wait for the capture result to open, then look for its PDF download control. The documented alternative is to right-click the screenshot and choose Save PDF As….
The PDF is too small to read or inconvenient to print. A long screenshot may have been fitted onto a continuous page. Choose a paginated paper-size layout such as A4 or US Letter, and select portrait or landscape to suit the content.
You cannot find or install the extension. Store availability and listings can change, and copycat extensions may appear. Verify the current official GoFullPage listing and follow its official installation route.

Or skip the browser setup

If you need a PDF from a URL without running a browser extension, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. Its PDF options include paper size, margins, landscape orientation, and page ranges. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -d format=pdf -o page.pdf

Cookie banners are accepted like a visitor and removed along with supported consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, failed loads, timeouts, and cache hits are not billed; response headers report the page verdict and billing status. Its MCP server offers take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for AI agents using Claude, Cursor, or another MCP client. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ

Can I save the screenshot as an image instead?

Yes. The completed screenshot page offers image download options as well as PDF, according to the extension listing.

Does GoFullPage add the source URL and capture date to every PDF?

The URL and date/time footer are listed as Premium features. Check the current plan comparison and interface for availability.

Is a continuous PDF the same as a normal printable document?

No. It places the capture on one long page. For standard paper printing, choose a paginated layout if available.
