How to save a web page from the Indian Income Tax portal as PDF for records

Download official filed forms and acknowledgements from the Income Tax portal, or save a page as PDF with your browser when no suitable download exists.

For a filed return, form, acknowledgement, receipt, or attachment, first download the portal’s own record. That file is the appropriate record of the item available from the portal. Use your browser’s Print → Save as PDF for a page that has no suitable download. Printing a page creates a capture of its presentation; it does not turn the page into an official filed return or acknowledgement.

1. Download the official record when one is available

The Income Tax e-Filing portal’s View Filed Forms service is available to registered users after login. Its manual describes access to filed forms in PDF, acknowledgements or receipts, uploaded JSON where applicable, status, and other attachments. The route in the manual is e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms. Search by form name or number, identify the relevant filing, and use its Download option for the record you need. See the [Income Tax Department’s View Filed Forms manual](https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/help/view-filed-forms).

  1. Sign in to the e-Filing portal with your registered account.
  2. Open e-File > Income Tax Forms > View Filed Forms.
  3. Search using the form name or number, then select the relevant filing and year.
  4. Choose Download for the form, receipt or acknowledgement, or attachment you need.
  5. Save the downloaded file in a folder you can find again. Keep its original filename if it helps identify the record.

Menu names and available records can change. If the route differs, use the portal’s help area to find current e-Filing guidance.

2. Download a filed return from the dashboard, if offered

The portal’s registration manual describes a dashboard option called Download Filed Return. For the current assessment year, this option can download the acknowledgement or the entire filed form. Sign in, look for the option on your dashboard, choose the record offered, and save it locally. The [Quick Glance for first-time Registration User Manual](https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/help/quick-glance-for-first-time-registration) documents this route.

If you need a specific older filing or a form attachment, use the relevant filed-forms area and check the record details rather than assuming the dashboard download covers every year or document.

3. Save a portal page as PDF with your browser

Use this method for a page that does not have a suitable portal download—for example, a page of displayed information you want to keep for reference. These are general browser steps, not portal-specific instructions.

  1. Open the page and wait for its visible content to finish loading.
  2. Open the browser’s print dialog: commonly Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on macOS. You can also use the browser menu and choose Print.
  3. Choose the built-in PDF destination, usually called Save as PDF or similar.
  4. Review the preview. Check that the relevant text is present and that pages are not unexpectedly blank or cut off.
  5. Save to a folder you control using a descriptive filename, such as tax-portal-page-2026-10-04.pdf.
  6. Open the saved PDF and confirm it contains the information you intended to retain.

Destination names and print options vary by browser and operating system. A page’s printed appearance can also differ from its on-screen appearance because print-to-PDF captures browser rendering and print layout.

4. Choose the right PDF for your records

What you need to keep Preferred method What the PDF represents
A filed form, return, acknowledgement, receipt, or attachment Use the portal’s relevant download option when available The record provided by the portal for that filing
A displayed portal page without a suitable download Print the page to PDF in your browser A capture of the page’s rendered presentation

A browser printout should not be described as the official filed form or acknowledgement. When the distinction matters, retain the portal-provided record.

5. Check the saved copy

  • Open the PDF after saving; do not rely only on the download or print dialog completing.
  • Check that the expected page, text, and relevant filing details appear.
  • For browser-printed pages, check for missing sections, unexpected page breaks, blank pages, or clipped content.
  • Confirm the filename and folder make the document easy to identify later.
  • Keep the portal’s downloaded form or receipt when you need a record of the filing itself.

6. Troubleshooting

The filed-form menu or document is missing

Cause: The service requires login as a registered user, or the filing may not be listed under the form or year you selected. Fix: Sign in with the relevant account, search by form name or number, and check the filing details and year. For portal-specific issues, consult the [official e-Filing help page](https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/help).

I need an acknowledgement, but I downloaded the form

Cause: The portal may offer the form and acknowledgement as separate download choices. Fix: Return to the filing’s download options and select the acknowledgement or receipt when available. The dashboard’s Download Filed Return option may also offer the acknowledgement for the current assessment year.

The browser preview is blank or incomplete

Cause: The page may not have finished loading, or its print layout may omit content. Fix: Wait for the page to settle, reopen Print, and inspect the preview again. If a portal download exists for the record you need, use that instead of relying on the page capture.

The saved PDF has cut-off content or awkward page breaks

Cause: Print layout and page sizing vary across browsers and pages. Fix: Review the preview before saving and adjust available print settings, such as paper size, orientation, or scale, if needed. Reopen the resulting file to verify it.

I cannot find the file I saved

Cause: The browser may have saved to its default downloads folder or another location selected in the save dialog. Fix: Check the browser’s download list and the folder shown in the save dialog, then save a fresh copy to a known folder with a descriptive name.

The portal’s instructions do not match what I see

Cause: Portal menus and current-year features can change. Fix: Use the portal’s current help area or support channels. The Income Tax Department’s [Help page](https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal/help) points users to e-Filing help and support.

7. Privacy and record-keeping

Tax documents can contain personal and financial information. Save them to a location you control, use a clear filename, and avoid sharing a browser-printed copy as though it were an official filing receipt. If the portal provides the actual filed document, preserve that download for records.

Or skip the browser setup

If your task is capturing a public web page rather than retrieving a private tax record, [ScreenshotNeo](https://screenshotneo.com) is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A screenshot API cannot replace signing in to the Income Tax portal to download private filed records. ScreenshotNeo returns an image or PDF from one GET request and offers browser rendering options such as full-page capture and PDF output. See the [API documentation](https://screenshotneo.com/docs/) for parameters and authentication.

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card.

FAQ

Does printing a portal page create an official filed return?

No. It captures the page as rendered for printing. Download the portal-provided filed return or acknowledgement when you need that record.

Can I download a filed form without signing in?

The portal manual describes View Filed Forms as a service for registered users after login.

Should I keep the form PDF or the acknowledgement?

That depends on the record you need. The portal can offer the form, receipt or acknowledgement, and attachments separately; download the applicable items.

What if the page has no download button?

For a page you can access, use the browser’s print dialog and save to PDF, then open the file to check the result.
