To save the current webpage as a single HTML file with Save Page WE, press Alt+A. To cancel a save in progress, press Alt+C. These are Save Page WE extension shortcuts, documented for its Firefox and Chrome versions. Save Page WE on Mozilla Add-ons · Save Page WE on the Chrome Web Store.

Save the current webpage

  1. Open the webpage you want to keep in Firefox or Chrome, with Save Page WE installed and enabled.
  2. Press Alt+A.
  3. Wait for the save to finish. Save Page WE produces a single HTML file with the page’s displayed HTML and referenced resources embedded where it can save them.
  4. Open the saved HTML file in a browser to view the local copy.

The extension also offers Basic, Standard, and Custom save selections. The precise resources included depend on the selected save option and what the page and browser allow the extension to access.

Save Page WE shortcuts

Action Default shortcut
Save the current webpage Alt+A
Cancel a single or multiple page save Alt+C

The documented default is Alt+A; the Save Page WE listing does not specify a separate macOS mapping. If your key combination is intercepted or behaves differently, check the extension’s shortcut settings or use its toolbar or page context-menu command.

Save Page WE shortcut versus the browser’s save shortcut

These shortcuts trigger different save actions. Alt+A invokes Save Page WE. Chrome’s built-in save-page command is Ctrl+S on Windows and Linux, and ⌘+S on macOS. That native command opens Chrome’s save options; it is not the Save Page WE command. See Google’s Chrome keyboard shortcuts.

How do I change the Save Page WE shortcut?

  1. Open Save Page WE’s Options page. In Firefox, the Mozilla Add-ons instructions say to right-click the toolbar button, choose Manage Extension, open the three-dot menu, and select Options. In Chrome, right-click the toolbar button and choose Options.
  2. Open the Shortcuts tab.
  3. Change the save or cancel shortcut there.

Browser menus can change between releases, so the exact wording may differ. If the toolbar button is not visible, open the browser’s extensions management page and open Save Page WE’s settings from there.

What the saved HTML includes—and what it may miss

Save Page WE packages a webpage into one HTML file, embedding the page content and resources it is able to collect. Depending on the save selection, resources can include images, audio or video, object/embed files, fonts, and scripts in same-origin frames. This is useful for keeping a local snapshot, but it does not guarantee that every page will work exactly as it did online.

  • Cross-origin frames: Some frames cannot be saved. Scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved, and saving some other cross-origin frames depends on whether ancestor frames can run content scripts.
  • Lazy-loaded content: The extension has options to try to load lazy content by scrolling or shrinking the page, including a setting for lazy-loaded images. A page saved before those elements load may appear incomplete.
  • Dynamic pages: Content created after the page loads, or requiring an active session or server connection, may not be preserved as a working offline feature.
  • Unavailable resources: The extension can show a warning or list of resources it could not save. Review it when completeness matters.

Troubleshooting

Alt+A does nothing

Confirm Save Page WE is installed and enabled, then try its toolbar button or page context menu. Another extension, browser command, or operating-system shortcut may be using the same keys. Change the extension mapping in its Options page under Shortcuts.

Alt+A opens a different command

Check whether the browser or another extension has claimed that shortcut. Save Page WE documents Alt+A as its default, but browser interface and shortcut behavior can vary. Reassign the extension shortcut or invoke Save Page WE from its menu.

The file opens, but images or other resources are missing

Some resources may not have been accessible to the extension, or may be cross-origin. Check the save warning/resource list, select a broader save option if appropriate, and enable the lazy-image or lazy-content options for pages that load resources as you scroll. The extension cannot promise to preserve every external resource.

The saved page is missing content lower down

Some sites load content only after scrolling. Enable Save Page WE’s lazy-content loading options, including scrolling or shrinking the page where suitable, and its lazy-loaded image option. Save again and inspect the result.

A frame or its scripts do not work offline

This can be a cross-origin frame limitation. Save Page WE does not save scripts in cross-origin frames, and some frames cannot be captured depending on browser content-script access. There may be no setting that makes those resources available to the extension.

Performance, reliability, and choosing the right output

Save time and file size depend on the page, the resources selected, and whether lazy content needs to be loaded. Broader save selections can include more resource types, which can increase the amount of work and the resulting file size. For important pages, wait for the save to complete, check the resource warning list, and reopen the HTML file to confirm the content you need is present.

Use Save Page WE when you need a local, single-file HTML snapshot. A screenshot is a visual image of a page rather than a self-contained HTML copy; it will not provide the same offline page structure or interaction. If you need an image or PDF capture for documentation or a visual record, ScreenshotNeo is a separate website screenshot API and MCP server made by Yorker Media. Its output is a screenshot or PDF, not Save Page WE’s offline HTML file.

Or skip the browser setup

For a screenshot or PDF rather than an offline HTML file, ScreenshotNeo can capture a URL with one API request. Its cookie-banner, popup, and chat-widget removal runs before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card, and paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ

Does Save Page WE save as one file?

Yes. Its save action creates a single HTML file with page content and resources embedded where they can be saved. Some resources and frames may be unavailable.

Can I use the browser’s save command instead?

Yes, but it is a different feature. In Chrome, use Ctrl+S on Windows/Linux or ⌘+S on macOS to open Chrome’s save options.

Is there a separate Save Page WE Mac shortcut?

The available extension listing documents Alt+A as the default and does not establish a separate Mac mapping. Check the Shortcuts tab in the installed extension’s Options page for the current configuration.
