Save Page WE Not Saving Images: How to Fix It
Find out whether an image failed to load, was missed in the saved page, or is already there but needs extracting—and fix the right problem.
When Save Page WE does not appear to save images, first identify which of four problems you have: the image never loaded on the live page; it loaded but is missing from the saved HTML; it is in the saved page but you need the image as a separate file; or the HTML file itself did not download. Each has a different fix.
Save Page WE is designed to save a page as one HTML file representing the page as currently displayed. That does not guarantee every site resource can be captured. The extension documents multiple save methods and resource-loading controls, and it has a separate command for extracting media from a saved page. 1. Check which image problem you have
| What you see | Likely branch | Start here |
|---|---|---|
| The image is broken or absent on the website before saving. | The live page did not load it. | Reload, wait, and troubleshoot the page or browser. |
| The image appears on the website but not in the saved HTML. | The resource may not have been captured. | Try the other save method and review resource-loading settings. |
| The image appears in the saved HTML, but you need its file. | Extraction, not capture, is needed. | Use Save Page WE’s Extract Image/Audio/Video command. |
| No HTML file appears after saving. | The browser may not have completed the download. | Check download location, prompts, and download extensions. |
This distinction matters: an image missing from the original page cannot be embedded by the saver, and a download failure is separate from an image capture failure.
2. Confirm the image loads on the live page
- Open or reload the original page.
- Scroll to the image if the page loads content as you scroll, then wait for it to appear.
- If it remains broken or absent, test the page in a private window or with extensions that block or modify pages disabled.
- If the image is still missing, the issue is with the live page, access to its resource, or browser display—not evidence by itself that Save Page WE failed.
Mozilla lists cached data, blocked content, and extensions that block or modify pages among possible causes of websites displaying incorrectly. Its guidance is a useful next step when the image is already absent before capture: troubleshoot pages that look wrong in Firefox.
3. If the live image appears but is missing from the saved HTML
Try the other save method
Save Page WE offers an option for its newer save method; the extension listing says it can save more pages. If one method misses an image, try the other on the same page and compare the saved results. The available evidence does not establish one method as best for every site.
Review resource-loading controls
Check the extension’s options for resource-loading settings, including maximum loading times for pages and individual resources where available. A resource that takes longer than the configured limit may not be ready when the save completes. Increase the relevant limit if the page or image is slow, then save again. These settings can help with slow resources, but do not guarantee capture of every site.
Capture only after the page is ready
Let the page finish loading and verify the image is visible before starting the save. For pages that load images on scroll, visit the image first. Compare the saved file with the live page after each change so you can tell which adjustment helped.
Isolate browser add-ons in Firefox
Firefox Troubleshoot Mode temporarily disables extensions, uses the default theme, and turns off hardware acceleration. Try saving the same page in this mode. If the problem disappears, re-enable extensions and restore other changed factors systematically to identify the conflict. If it persists in Troubleshoot Mode, Mozilla says the factors it disables are not causing the issue. See Mozilla’s Troubleshoot Mode instructions.
4. Extract an image that is already in the saved page
If the image is visible when you open the saved HTML but you want a standalone image resource, use Save Page WE’s context-menu command Extract Image/Audio/Video on the saved page. This is for extracting a resource from a page that has already been saved. It will not repair an image that is missing from the saved HTML.
5. If the saved HTML file did not download
- Check the browser’s download list and configured download folder; the file may have been saved somewhere unexpected.
- Review whether the browser is set to ask where to save each file, and complete any pending prompt.
- Temporarily disable other download extensions and retry. The Save Page WE Firefox listing notes that download extensions can interfere in some cases.
- If the problem began with a filename change, consult the extension listing’s guidance: it notes reinstalling the extension or using the old save method for the described case.
Browser menu labels vary by version. Mozilla’s download and save troubleshooting guide covers checking the configured download folder and related problems.
6. A quick repeatable diagnosis
- Check the live page: does the image display before saving?
- Check the saved HTML: is the image absent, or present but not separately accessible?
- For a missing embedded image: try the other save method, check resource-loading limits, and capture after the image has loaded.
- For a present image: use Extract Image/Audio/Video.
- For a missing file: inspect the browser’s download list, folder, prompts, and other download extensions.
- For a Firefox-only conflict: try Troubleshoot Mode and re-enable extensions systematically if it changes the result.
7. Common errors and fixes
| Symptom | Possible cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Image is broken on both the site and saved copy. | It did not load on the live page. | Reload and troubleshoot the page or browser first. |
| Image loads on the site but is absent from the saved HTML. | The capture method or resource-loading timing may not suit that page. | Try the alternate save method; review loading limits and wait for the image before saving. |
| Image is in the saved page, but there is no separate image file. | The page was saved as a single HTML file; extraction is a separate operation. | Use Extract Image/Audio/Video from the saved page’s context menu. |
| The save seems to finish, but no HTML file is found. | Download location, prompt, or another download extension may be involved. | Check the browser download list and folder, then retry without conflicting download add-ons. |
| Firefox capture changes in Troubleshoot Mode. | An extension, theme, or hardware acceleration may be involved. | Restore or re-enable factors one at a time to isolate the cause. |
8. What to record if the problem persists
- Browser name and version, and Save Page WE version.
- The page URL and whether the image appears on the live page before saving.
- Which save method and resource-loading settings you used.
- Whether the HTML downloaded and whether the image appears inside it.
- Whether changing browser extensions or, in Firefox, Troubleshoot Mode changes the result.
These details identify the failing stage without assuming a universal cause. The extension’s official listings describe its single-file capture goal, save-method option, resource-loading controls, and extraction feature, but do not identify one reason that explains every missing image.
Or skip the browser setup
If your goal is a screenshot rather than a self-contained saved HTML page, ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server from Yorker Media. A GET request captures a URL as PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. Its browser flow accepts cookie and consent banners as a visitor and removes more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture; each cleanup step can be turned off.
For a direct screenshot, see the ScreenshotNeo API docs. This cURL example saves a WebP screenshot:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
Python:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
Node.js:
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await import('node:fs/promises').then(fs => fs.writeFile('shot.webp', Buffer.from(await res.arrayBuffer())));
ScreenshotNeo reports the page verdict and billing outcome in response headers. Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits cost nothing. Its MCP server provides take_screenshot, get_page_info, and capture_pdf for Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients.
The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots; every feature is on every plan. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, with no card required.
FAQ
Does Save Page WE save images?
It is intended to save a page as one HTML file reflecting the page as displayed. Whether a specific image is captured depends on the page and capture conditions; the extension’s documented options include multiple save methods and resource-loading controls.
Why are images visible on the site but not in the saved HTML?
The image may not have been captured with the chosen method or within the available resource-loading time. Try the other method and review the loading controls.
Can I save an image separately from a page saved with Save Page WE?
Yes. The extension listing documents an Extract Image/Audio/Video context-menu operation for resources in saved pages.
Does changing the save method guarantee the image will be included?
No. It is a practical troubleshooting step because the extension offers more than one method, but the available documentation does not promise that either method captures every site.
