How to Save a Webpage as PDF in Chrome When Bengali Text Is Missing in India

Save a webpage as a PDF in Chrome and troubleshoot Bengali text that disappears or becomes unreadable in print preview or the saved file.

If Bengali text is missing from a webpage saved as a PDF in desktop Chrome, first check whether it appears on the webpage, then check Chrome’s print preview. Open the page, press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac, choose Save as PDF as the destination, inspect the preview, and save. If Bengali is missing on the page or in preview, investigate font coverage and the website’s print styling before changing export settings. Google documents this built-in print workflow; no printer or PDF extension is required. Google Chrome Help: Print from Chrome.

1. Save the webpage as a PDF in Chrome

  1. Open the webpage and wait for its text and fonts to finish loading.
  2. Press Ctrl+P on Windows or Linux, or Command+P on Mac. You can also open Chrome’s menu and choose Print.
  3. In the print dialog, select Save as PDF in the destination selector. The wording or location can vary slightly by platform.
  4. Inspect the preview. Check that Bengali characters appear connected and readable, and that headings, paragraphs, and page breaks are sensible.
  5. Select Save, choose a folder and filename, and save the PDF.
  6. Open the saved file in Chrome or another PDF viewer. Verify that the Bengali text is still readable.

The preview and the saved file are separate checkpoints. A good preview followed by a bad PDF suggests an export or viewer issue; missing text in both points toward rendering, font fallback, or page print styles. This is a diagnostic distinction, not a guaranteed cause.

2. Find where Bengali text disappears

Webpage Print preview Saved PDF What to check next
Missing or malformed Missing or malformed Likely also affected The site’s font loading, Bengali glyph coverage, and whether the page has finished loading.
Readable Missing or malformed Likely affected The page’s print stylesheet and font fallback. Try another Bengali page and a suitable installed document font.
Readable Readable Missing or malformed Recreate the PDF, open it in another viewer, and update Chrome. Compare whether the problem follows one page or one machine.
Readable Readable Readable in one viewer only Use another viewer to determine whether the problem is specific to the PDF viewer’s rendering.

Bengali uses complex text layout, so a font needs appropriate script coverage and shaping support. The Noto Sans Bengali specimen describes this Indic-script requirement. A suitable font can help when the system falls back to a font without the needed characters, but it cannot fix every website-specific print stylesheet or PDF export issue. 3. Troubleshoot missing Bengali text

Check the page before changing fonts

Reload the page and wait for its content and fonts to load. If Bengali is missing on the webpage itself, the failure happens before PDF creation. Test a second page containing Bengali. If only one site is affected, its font delivery or print styling is a plausible cause; if several unrelated pages fail, local font coverage or browser and system setup is a more plausible area to investigate. These comparisons narrow the search but do not establish a universal cause.

Try a Bengali document font

If Bengali is missing or malformed on multiple pages or in print preview, check whether a Bengali-capable font is installed. Noto Sans Bengali is one documented option. For documents, Noto’s usage guidance recommends the family name without the “UI” suffix; the UI variant is intended for interfaces with limited vertical space. Get fonts from the official Noto or Google Fonts distribution, install them for your operating system, restart Chrome, reload the page, and inspect the print preview again. Installation steps differ by operating system. Noto font usage guidance. Noto says its fonts are available under the SIL Open Font License 1.1. Noto Sans Bengali license.

Installing a font is a check, not a guaranteed repair: a site may load its own unsuitable font, fail to load its web font, or apply a print stylesheet that changes typography.

Compare the preview and exported file

If preview looks correct, save another test PDF and open it in Chrome and a second PDF viewer. If the result is still wrong, try a different Bengali page. If the issue follows only one page, investigate that site’s content and print styles. If it follows the machine across pages, investigate local fonts, Chrome, and the system.

Update Chrome if printing itself is failing

When Chrome’s print dialog or PDF output behaves unexpectedly, check for a browser update through Help → About Google Chrome, then restart and repeat the preview check. Google describes updates as a way to get current features and security fixes; an update is general maintenance, not a confirmed Bengali-PDF fix. How to update Google Chrome.

Use a font extension only as an optional fallback

The Chrome Web Store lists a third-party extension called Bengali Font Pack, which says it adds Bengali fallback font files for systems without support. Its listing reports version 3.0 and an update date of June 12, 2024. This extension is not needed for Chrome’s native Save as PDF workflow, and its listing does not establish that it will fix PDF output on a particular machine. Before installing any extension, review its publisher and requested permissions. Bengali Font Pack listing.

4. Make the saved PDF easier to read

  • Wait before printing: let the page content and fonts finish loading before opening preview.
  • Check every page in preview: long pages can split headings, tables, or paragraphs across pages.
  • Choose the right page layout: use portrait for ordinary articles; use landscape only when a wide table or layout needs it.
  • Review scale and margins: if text is clipped or too small, adjust scale or margins in the print dialog and inspect the preview again.
  • Test a short sample first: on a long page, save a small test PDF to check Bengali rendering before producing the full document.
  • Keep the original page available: a PDF is a saved rendering of the page, so it may not preserve the same interactivity or responsive layout.

5. Common errors and fixes

Symptom Likely area to investigate Next step
Empty squares or missing Bengali characters on the webpage The page font or local fallback may not provide Bengali glyphs. Reload after fonts load; compare another Bengali page; check for an installed Bengali document font.
Bengali appears on the page but disappears in print preview The page’s print stylesheet or print-time font fallback may differ from its screen styling. Try a suitable installed font, reload, and check another site. If one page alone fails, the site is a useful lead.
Preview is correct but the saved PDF looks wrong The export result or PDF viewer may be involved. Save again with Chrome’s built-in destination and open the file in a second viewer.
Only some characters or combined forms look wrong Font coverage or complex shaping may be unsuitable. Try a Bengali-capable document font and compare the page with a second viewer or browser.
Print preview is blank or incomplete The page may not have finished loading, or its print behavior may be failing. Wait and reload; retry the print dialog; update Chrome if printing continues to misbehave.
Extension does not change the PDF The extension may not affect the site’s own font or its print stylesheet. Disable it if it does not help, and return to the webpage/preview/PDF diagnostic sequence.

6. Or skip the browser setup

For a visual capture or PDF generated from a URL, ScreenshotNeo provides a website screenshot API and MCP server. It captures a rendered page; it is not a repair for missing Bengali text in Chrome’s print preview, and it should not be treated as a substitute when you need selectable PDF text. Review the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for the available response formats and options.

cURL:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

Python:

import requests

r = requests.get(
    "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
    params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"},
    timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)

Node.js:

const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', new Uint8Array(await res.arrayBuffer()));

Replace the example target URL with the page you want to capture. The Node.js example uses Bun’s file-writing API; with Node.js, write the response bytes using the built-in node:fs/promises module.

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots.

7. Frequently asked questions

Does Chrome need a printer to save a PDF?

No. Choose the built-in Save as PDF destination in Chrome’s print dialog.

Will installing Noto Sans Bengali fix every missing-text PDF?

No. It can help when font coverage or local fallback is the problem. It cannot guarantee a fix for a website’s font delivery, print stylesheet, or export behavior.

Should I use Bengali Font Pack instead of Chrome’s PDF destination?

No. The extension is an optional third-party fallback; Chrome’s built-in print dialog is the standard PDF workflow. Test the page and preview first.

Why does ScreenshotNeo return an image when I need a PDF?

The example above requests the service’s default screenshot output. ScreenshotNeo also supports PDF capture; see its documentation for PDF options. For Bengali text that must remain selectable, verify the resulting PDF’s text behavior before relying on it.
