How to Save a Webpage with Save Page WE and Share It on WhatsApp

Save a webpage as a single HTML file with Save Page WE, then choose whether to share the live link or attach the saved copy in WhatsApp.

Save Page WE saves a webpage as a single .html file. In WhatsApp, you can either paste the original URL to share the live page or attach that saved file as a document to share the local copy. Those are different: sending a URL does not send the saved file.

1. Save the webpage with Save Page WE

  1. Install Save Page WE from the Chrome Web Store or Firefox Add-ons.
  2. Open the webpage in Chrome or Firefox. Wait for the content you want to preserve to appear. If the page loads images or other content as you scroll, scroll through the relevant sections first.
  3. Choose what to save:
    • Basic: essential page content.
    • Standard: adds the resource categories listed by the extension.
    • Custom: lets you select resource categories.
  4. Click the Save Page WE toolbar button, use its context menu, or press Alt+A. Firefox’s shortcut can be changed in the extension options.
  5. Check the browser’s download location. The default output extension is .html.
  6. Open the downloaded file locally and inspect the parts that matter before sharing it.

Save Page WE combines the currently displayed page and referenced resources into one HTML file. It cannot guarantee a complete offline copy of every site: dynamic content, lazy-loaded content, inaccessible resources, and some cross-origin frames may be missing. Scripts in cross-origin frames are not saved.

2. Choose what to send in WhatsApp

If the recipient needs… Send… They receive… Keep in mind
To visit the current page The original webpage URL A clickable link, often with a preview The page must remain online and accessible. This does not transmit your saved copy.
Your saved capture The .html file as a document The file you downloaded WhatsApp’s document guidance does not specifically guarantee HTML support or inline preview. The recipient may need a browser or another app to open it.

Send the live webpage URL

  1. Copy the page’s address from the browser.
  2. Open the individual or group chat in WhatsApp.
  3. Paste the URL into the message box and send it. A message containing only a link can show a preview.

This is the best choice when the recipient should visit the current live page. The page may change or become unavailable later.

Send the saved HTML file

  1. Open the WhatsApp chat with the recipient.
  2. Choose the attachment option, then choose Document.
  3. Browse to the downloaded .html file. Select and send it if it appears in the document picker.
  4. If you do not see it, locate the file in your device’s file manager or transfer it to the device where you use WhatsApp, then try the document picker again.

WhatsApp’s cited help instructions describe document attachments and state a 2 GB document limit. They do not specifically name .html as a supported extension, so file selection and how it opens can depend on the device and WhatsApp client. Ask the recipient to open it with a browser if it does not preview in WhatsApp. On iPhone, the in-chat Document picker is a practical route to try; iOS share-sheet guidance for URLs or PDFs is not a promise of inline HTML support.

3. Check the saved copy before sending

  • Open the file while online and, if offline use matters, check it again with the network disconnected.
  • Check key images, embedded content, formatting, and links.
  • Confirm that the important content had loaded before you saved the page.
  • If a resource is missing, try Standard or Custom save contents and capture the page again. Some content cannot be saved because the site or browser does not make it accessible to the extension.
  • Tell the recipient whether you sent a live link or a local snapshot. A local snapshot may be incomplete or become outdated as soon as the source page changes.

4. Troubleshooting

Problem Likely cause What to try
The saved page is missing images or other resources The content had not loaded, was lazy-loaded, dynamic, cross-origin, or inaccessible to the extension. Wait for the content, scroll to load relevant sections, and save again with Standard or a suitable Custom selection. Some cross-origin content may remain unavailable.
The file opens but the layout or embedded content is incomplete The page depends on scripts, remote resources, or frames that were not captured. Compare the file with the original page and treat it as a snapshot, not a guaranteed copy of the site’s full behavior. Save Page WE does not save scripts in cross-origin frames.
Alt+A does nothing The shortcut may conflict with the browser or another extension, or may have been changed. Use the toolbar button or context menu. In Firefox, check the extension options to review or change the shortcut.
The HTML file is not listed in WhatsApp’s Document picker The picker may be showing another folder or filtering file types; the file may still be in the browser’s download location. Use the device file manager to find it, move or transfer it to an accessible folder or device, then try attaching it as a document. WhatsApp’s instructions do not specifically guarantee HTML selection.
The recipient cannot open the attachment The receiving device may not associate HTML files with a browser, or the client may not preview them. Ask the recipient to save the attachment and open it with a browser or another suitable app. If they only need the live page, send the original URL instead.
The recipient sees a preview or live page rather than your saved version You sent the webpage URL, not the local file. Attach the downloaded .html using the Document option.

5. Performance, reliability, and cost

Saving a page depends on how much content has loaded and which resources the extension can access. Waiting for the page and scrolling through lazy-loaded sections can improve the capture, but no save option can recover content that the site never exposed to the browser. A saved file is a point-in-time snapshot; a URL points to whatever the site serves when the recipient opens it.

Save Page WE is a browser extension workflow for Chrome and Firefox. The extension listings describe a single-file HTML output and the save-content choices above. WhatsApp’s document help describes a 2 GB maximum. Check the current listings and WhatsApp guidance for current details; published extension version dates are not evidence that a procedure has been newly tested.
