How to Screenshot an Aadhaar Website Page on a Mac
Capture a visible Aadhaar webpage on a Mac, save the whole page when needed, and check for personal information before sharing.
To screenshot an Aadhaar website page on a Mac, open the page in your browser and press Shift+Command+4 to select an area, Shift+Command+3 to capture the whole screen, or Shift+Command+5 to open macOS screenshot controls. macOS saves screenshots to the desktop by default, though the Screenshot app lets you choose another location. Before sharing, check the image for Aadhaar numbers, names, addresses, OTPs, or other personal details.
Choose what to capture
| What you need | Shortcut | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| A selected part of the page | Shift+Command+4 | Drag the crosshair around the part you want, then release. |
| The whole display | Shift+Command+3 | Press and release the shortcut. |
| The browser window | Shift+Command+4, then Space | Move the camera pointer over the browser window and click. Hold Option while clicking to omit the window shadow. |
| Capture settings or a timer | Shift+Command+5 | Use the Screenshot app controls and Options menu. |
Apple documents these built-in options as capturing the entire screen, a window, or a selected portion. Settings and labels can vary by macOS version and language. The Screenshot app shortcut applies to macOS Mojave 10.14 and later.
Take and save the screenshot
- Open the UIDAI or myAadhaar page you need in a browser and wait for the visible content to finish loading.
- Move the pointer away from information you do not want in the image. Close unrelated tabs or windows if you are capturing the whole display.
- Choose a shortcut from the table. For a precise page area, use Shift+Command+4 and drag around the content.
- Find the saved image. The default destination is the desktop. To choose a different destination, open Shift+Command+5, select Options, and choose a save location. The controls also offer a timer, thumbnail behavior, pointer visibility, and copying to the clipboard.
- Open the image and inspect it before sending or publishing it. Crop or redact sensitive details with an image editor if needed.
To put the capture on the clipboard instead of saving a file, use the Screenshot app’s destination options. You can then paste it into an app that accepts images.
Screenshot versus saving the full webpage
A screenshot records the pixels currently displayed. It is useful as an image to share or as a record of what was visible on screen. It does not automatically include content farther down the page.
If you need a page copy that can retain graphics and links for later viewing, Safari provides File > Save As, then Format > Web Archive. A Web Archive is a saved webpage, not a screenshot. Some pages may prevent saving items shown on them. Safari’s Page Source option saves HTML source, not a visual image.
| Format | Preserves | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Screenshot | The visible screen pixels | You need an image of what appeared on screen. |
| Safari Web Archive | Page resources and links for later viewing, when available | You need to revisit a saved webpage. |
| Page Source | HTML source | You need source markup, not a visual record. |
Handle Aadhaar information carefully
A screenshot can expose personal information even when the page itself is public. Check the final image for Aadhaar numbers, names, addresses, OTPs, and account details before sharing it. Prefer a public UIDAI page or a non-sensitive example for demonstrations.
UIDAI offers a free Download Masked Aadhaar option through its portal, which requires a mobile OTP. UIDAI describes a masked Aadhaar as replacing the first eight digits with “xxxx-xxxx” while showing the last four digits. This can reduce the amount of Aadhaar information visible in a downloaded document, but it does not automatically redact other information in a screenshot.
UIDAI guidance for Aadhaar user agencies and departments says not to publish personal identifiable data, including Aadhaar, in public domains or websites; where an Aadhaar number must be printed, it advises truncation or masking to show only the last four digits. Keep that guidance in its stated context. UIDAI’s website policy concerns reproduction and use of material from its official website and associated portals; it does not say that every screenshot is categorically prohibited.
Or skip the browser setup
ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF. For a public UIDAI page, provide its URL and your API key:
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://uidai.gov.in -o shot.webp
See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for request options. The equivalent Python request is:
import requests
r = requests.get(
"https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot",
params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://uidai.gov.in"},
timeout=90,
)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
And in Node.js with a runtime that provides fetch:
const q = new URLSearchParams({
access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY',
url: 'https://uidai.gov.in',
});
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
if (!res.ok) throw new Error(`Screenshot request failed: ${res.status}`);
await Bun.write('shot.webp', new Uint8Array(await res.arrayBuffer()));
These examples target the public UIDAI homepage; replace the URL with the page you are authorized to capture. An API capture cannot access a page that requires a user’s private login session unless you configure an appropriate authorized request. Keep API keys secret. The response includes X-Page-Verdict and X-Billed headers to indicate the page outcome and billing status.
- Consent banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets are removed before the shot; each cleanup step can be turned off.
- Bot checks or CAPTCHAs, blank pages, timeouts, failed loads, and cache hits are not billed.
- An MCP server provides
take_screenshot,get_page_info, andcapture_pdffor AI agents and MCP clients. - The free plan includes 1,000 shots per month with no card. Paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 shots; every feature is available on every plan.

Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot shortcut does nothing | A shortcut may be customized, unavailable in the current context, or intercepted by another app. | Open Screenshot with Shift+Command+5. Check macOS keyboard shortcut settings if needed. |
| The image is missing from the desktop | The save destination was changed, or the capture was copied to the clipboard. | Open the Screenshot app’s Options menu to check the destination; paste into an image-capable app if you chose clipboard. |
| The screenshot shows a loading state | The page had not finished loading when captured, or a dynamic section had not appeared. | Wait for the page to settle and capture again. A timer in Screenshot options can help when you need time to prepare the page. |
| Part of the page is absent | A screenshot captures the display area, not automatically the entire scrollable webpage. | Capture additional sections, or use Safari Web Archive when a saved webpage is the intended result. |
| Some content is absent from a Web Archive | The page may prevent saving some items or load content dynamically. | Use a screenshot for the visible state or retain the original link as well. An archive is not guaranteed to preserve every page element. |
| An API screenshot shows a challenge or blank page | The site returned a bot check, CAPTCHA, or content did not load. | Check X-Page-Verdict and the response. Do not treat a challenge page as a successful page capture; use the normal browser workflow if the site requires interactive access. |
Performance, reliability, and cost
For a one-off capture of a page already open on your Mac, the built-in shortcut avoids API setup and has no per-request service cost. A screenshot records only what has rendered, so wait for the page and any content you need to appear. Large pages may require multiple visible-area captures.
Choose Web Archive when you need a later-viewable page copy, but be aware that some pages restrict saving and that an archive is not a pixel-perfect screenshot. For repeatable captures in a script or workflow, an API can remove manual browser steps; network, page loading, and site access still affect the result. ScreenshotNeo’s plans are Free (1,000 shots/month), Starter ($5 for 3,000), Growth ($15 for 15,000), Pro ($39 for 60,000), Scale ($99 for 250,000), and Business ($249 for 1,000,000). Yearly billing gives two months free. Only clean shots are billed, and response headers report the verdict and billing status.
FAQ
Can I screenshot an Aadhaar page without installing an app?
Yes. macOS includes screenshot shortcuts, and Safari includes a Web Archive save option.
Does a screenshot include the entire webpage?
No. It captures the visible display area. Use multiple captures or a webpage-saving option if you need content beyond the visible screen.
Can I share a screenshot that contains my Aadhaar number?
Review it first and avoid exposing personal details. For a UIDAI document, the portal’s free Masked Aadhaar option shows only the last four Aadhaar digits and requires mobile OTP access.
Does ScreenshotNeo need my UIDAI password?
The example captures a public page URL and does not use a UIDAI password. Do not send private credentials to a screenshot service; use your browser for pages that require your personal login.
