How to Screenshot a Web Page with a Selected Date Range in an Analytics Report
Choose and apply a date range in GA4, then capture the report with its date label visible. Learn when to use a screenshot, PDF, or data export.
To screenshot an analytics report with a specific date range, select and apply the range in the report first, wait for its data to update, then capture the page with the date label and relevant report content in view. In Google Analytics 4 (GA4), the date picker is at the top right of a report. Choose a preset or custom range, click Apply, and optionally add a comparison period. If a literal browser screenshot is not required, GA4 can also export the report as a PDF; CSV and Google Sheets exports are better when you need the data itself.
This guide uses GA4 because its report controls and export options are documented in the sources below. Other analytics products may use different labels and capture workflows.
1. Set the date range in GA4
- Open the GA4 report you want to preserve. Check that its filters and comparisons show the context you intend to share.
- Select the date picker at the top right of the report.
- Choose a preset range, or select a custom range in the calendar.
- If needed, select Compare to include another period.
- Click Apply and wait for the report to update. Google documents these date selection and comparison controls in its GA4 report date range guidance.
Before capturing, confirm the displayed date label matches the range you chose. Keep the report title and the chart or table you want to show in frame. Use a readable browser zoom and scroll position; for a tall report, several legible captures may communicate more than one shrunk image.
2. Capture the report as an image
For a normal screenshot, use your computer’s screenshot function to capture the visible browser area. The operating system is not specified here, so there is no single keyboard shortcut that applies to everyone. Make sure the date label remains visible in the resulting image; cropping it out removes important context.
If you need the entire scrolling page in one image, use a full-page capture feature supported by your browser or an optional extension. Check the saved image carefully: interactive charts and other dynamic report content may not appear as expected in every full-page capture workflow. A long-page extension is optional; it is not needed for a screenshot of the visible browser area.
3. Choose the right output
| What you need to preserve | Suitable output | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| The visible browser and report context | Screenshot of the visible browser view | A tall report may need multiple captures. Keep the date label in frame. |
| A shareable report document | GA4 PDF export | This is an exported report document, not a literal image of the browser window. |
| Values to analyze or reuse | CSV or Google Sheets export | These preserve data rather than the on-screen visual layout. |
| A page taller than the viewport in one image | Browser full-page capture or an optional extension | Inspect the result to confirm dynamic report content and the date label are present. |
In GA4, use Share this report > Download File > PDF to download a PDF. The export controls also offer CSV and Google Sheets. Google says a Viewer role at the property level is required to share or export reports; see Google’s report sharing and export instructions.
4. Make the selected period reproducible
A screenshot can show the selected date range, but it does not save that selection into the report for other people. Google says changing the range affects other reports in the current user’s view, while other users do not see that change. It also says report customization cannot save a specific date range. If someone else must reproduce the view, share the report link and state the range separately.
Preserve the report name, date label, and relevant chart or table together where possible. If you use a comparison period, make sure that context is visible too. When figures seem incomplete, inspect the report’s data-quality indication and any filters before treating the screenshot as a complete account of the data. Google’s guidance covers date ranges, report controls, and comparisons.
5. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Likely cause | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| The screenshot shows the wrong period | The custom range was not applied, or the report had not updated before capture. | Reopen the date picker, verify the start and end dates, click Apply, wait for the report to reflect the period, then capture again. |
| The date range is missing from the image | The browser view was scrolled or cropped so the date label is outside the frame. | Return to the report header and capture with the date label visible. If the chart will not fit legibly, use more than one image. |
| The comparison period is unclear | Comparison was not selected, or its context is outside the captured area. | Set the comparison through the date-range flow and check that the resulting report context is visible before capture. |
| Another person sees a different date range | The current user’s date selection is not saved for other users through report customization. | Share the report link and communicate the intended range separately. |
| Export or sharing controls are unavailable | The account may not have the required role. | Check property access. Google specifies a Viewer role at the property level for sharing or exporting reports. |
| A chart or table is absent or looks incomplete | A long-page capture may not preserve dynamic content, or report filters and data-quality information may affect what is shown. | Inspect the saved image, the report filters, and its data-quality indication. Try a visible-area capture or GA4’s native PDF export if the full-page image is unsuitable. |
6. Reliability, performance, and cost considerations
- Reliability: The screenshot records the report state visible at capture time. Confirm the range, comparison, filters, and data-quality indication before sharing. Treat full-page captures of interactive reports as something to verify, not as guaranteed to preserve every chart.
- Readability: Keep the browser zoom high enough for labels and values to be legible. Split a tall report into multiple screenshots rather than shrinking it until details are unreadable.
- Reproducibility: Include the date range in the image and in the accompanying message or report link, since the selected range is not saved for other users through report customization.
- Cost: A manual screenshot uses the screenshot features available on your computer. GA4’s PDF and data exports are native report options. If you use a third-party capture service, check its current pricing and billing rules directly.

ScreenshotNeo is a website screenshot API and MCP server. For a report page you can access by URL, one GET request returns an image or PDF. The capture request does not set a GA4 report’s date range for you: select and apply the range in the report first, then capture its URL. See the ScreenshotNeo API documentation for parameters and output options.
curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp
import requests
r = requests.get("https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot", params={"access_key": "YOUR_API_KEY", "url": "https://stripe.com"}, timeout=90)
open("shot.webp", "wb").write(r.content)
const q = new URLSearchParams({ access_key: 'YOUR_API_KEY', url: 'https://stripe.com' });
const res = await fetch(`https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot?${q}`);
Replace the example URL with the report URL you want to capture, and use your API key. Make sure the report is accessible to the capture request; private reports may require authentication settings supported by the API. ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before the shot. Bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots, and 1,000 screenshots a month are free with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000.

FAQ
Will another GA4 user see the date range I selected?
Not from your current selection alone. Share the report link and tell them the range to use.
Should I send a screenshot or a PDF?
Use a screenshot when the visible browser context matters. Use the GA4 PDF export for a report document, and CSV or Google Sheets when the recipient needs data to work with.
Do I need a full-page capture for a GA4 report?
No. A visible-area screenshot is enough when it shows the relevant report content and date label. Use a full-page capture only when the entire scrolling page is needed, and inspect the result for missing dynamic content.
